Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[Kelson believed in always looking presentable. People had the horrible habit of turning up when you didn't want them too and a king should look it. Then again, Kelson had the bad habit of taking his crown off and had to be reminded that they were in public and he needed to put it back on. Habits.]

I'm outside my spire, number 4. The west facing island.

[He paused.]

That's a very nice dress.

[as does Margaery. she dresses like she's going to spend every day on display and she wants to make sure that it's a good one. her crown, though, is on the South Island along with her home]

I'm trapped on the North Island. I was at my Shop when the move occurred. You're fortunate to have still been at home.

Thank you. It's so kind of you to say so.

[At least they'd be well dressed when they were together. Kelson was a little sheepish.]

I was asleep. And it is no kindness, I speak only the truth.

[Kelson was a notoriously late sleeper. One of his Duke's once barged in to his room when he saw the light on early morning, convinced something horrible had happened to him to be up so early when he did not have to be.]

[they'd be the belle and the beau of the ball. if Hadriel had balls]

I tend to wake early and head straight for the Shop. And may I say that you look handsome?

[oh, dear. yes, that would be embarrassing, having one's Duke assuming that something awful had happened the one time he woke early]

[Hadriel needed a ball. That was something Kelson could do and knew what was expected. And Margaery was quite safe as far as a future queen of Gwynedd so he needn't be concerned.]

Why thank you, my lady. I would say the honor is all yours, as you did have a hand in the entire matter.

[Quite embarrassing. Turned out someone did die, but....at least it wasn't the king?]

[a ball, a big party, or a masquerade. she'd be happy with any of those options. yes, the gods gave them that feast a while back and that was lovely, but she needs more. more occasions for joy rather than despair or simple frustration]

I assumed that my part in it went without saying. Or that it would be gauche to say so aloud.

[that's a relief. at least for those who weren't dead]

[Kelson would very much like more occasions for joy. There wasn't enough of it on either of their worlds, and while it could always be worse, why couldn't it be better too? He'd like to live in hope of what could be, and build that.]

Well you did a lovely job, I'm glad I wear your work well.

[finding joy here can be difficult, not just because of the so-called gods]

All I did was gild the rose.

Have you been out to see what else is on your island?

Yes I have. I assume we all have a lovely view of the water. The collosseum is here, along with two of the temples, another spire and some houses. I'm unsure of the rest of the buildings.

I'm quite enjoying the view of the water.

The Colosseum! That's unfortunate. You'll be getting all of the new people and all of the monsters.

I've been too busy reworking a dress I was making. Given the climate, I've decided to add long sleeves.

Aye, it's not the best news but with any luck perhaps we'll have a method of transportation by then.

[Ever hopeful. If there were more Deryni Kelson would be tempted to set up a transfer portal, but at the moment that was a moot point. He couldn't do it alone and without another portal to go to, he had no where to transfer too. He was hoping for boats.]

I'm sure you will get many stopping by for similar adjustments, if this weather holds.

I certainly hope so. Surely there's not room enough for all of the new people there.

[she's also hoping for boats. she's not looking forward to learning how to sail or row them, but boats are a necessity]

I'm sure I will. I'll be quite busy with all of the requests for new clothing. People will be in need of warmer things. Perhaps even knit things? I don't knit anywhere near as well or as fast as I sew, but I can do it.

I'm sure you will be. As soon as I'm able to travel I'll be stopping by in person. Knit items is an option, provided you can get the wool or a small loom.

I'd need to go to Tranquility for either. I've never used a loom before.

I'm afraid I'm not exactly the person to teach you. I've only seen it used when I visited the ladies solar.

I wonder if anyone around here has experience with such things? I tend to think of looms and the making of finer fabrics, not heavy woolen garments.

I suppose you're probably right. I would think it depends on what you use but, it's not exactly my expertise. Still, it might be useful to have, if we change locations again.

Or get that ball.

I would love to have that ball. Or a masquerade, like we used to have at Highgarden.

Perhaps. The next time I make a post advertising the shop, I'll have to ask.

That would be lovely. If we do have one, I would look forward to it. And to see such a lovely lady as yourself.

[she smiles brightly]

You flatter me. But, I too would like to see a handsome king such as yourself in his finery.

We would make a lovely pair.

[As they should, kings and queens in their own right. Kelson returns the gesture with a small flirting smile. Poor boy doesn't have much practice.]

We would. I'd have to pay extra attention to the making of your costume, of course.

[she notices the smile and gives him a flirty smile in return]

Extra attention. Would you really?

[Goodness flirting was different when the other person flirted back wasn't it? Kelson felt vaguely guilty about his little crush on Margaery, as if he was being unfaithful to Rothana. The nun who wasn't going to marry him. Because nun.]

Of course I would! You're a king. Your outfit should be worthy of one.

[Margaery is a natural flirt, too, even taking her lifelong training in the art into account. she sees flirting as harmless fun]

I don't always require such treatment, but thank you.
