hadriel_logs | Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[she's no fan of Rage, either. Rage threatened to feed her to the Null]

Yeah, that could work. I've never used an axe before, but how hard can it be? Wanna go check 'em out?

Sure.

[He says, stepping back.]

Let's just hope it's on this island.

No kidding. All of this is gonna amount to a whole lot of nothing if it's somewhere else.

[she follows]

We could reach someone over there and ask them to do the same.

[He points out, tucking his hands in his pockets.]

Or wait for the god-boat, then make our own backup.

Like through a network post or something?

[she falls into step beside him, arms swinging casually by her sides]

Fuck only knows what kinds of boats the gods will give us, but I'd be willing to bet it's nothing with a motor. That would be making our lives way too easy.

Through the network. [Agreeing. Well, sailboats are fairly simple machines.

[Says Bruce, who knows he can solve any problem, given time.]

They can't give us rowboats, we'll never crest the waves.

Yeah, sailboats are easy. Even I can do that.

[says George, who tends to have little confidence in herself at all times]

Fuck, I know. I really hope no one was expecting a beach vacation out of this whole island thing.

I don't mind. What were the other choices, right? I certainly wouldn't want to be scavenging for winter clothing on some sort of arctic ice ball.

I've lived there before, and it's deeply unpleasant.

Yeah? Where'd you live that was so cold? I mean, I'm from Seattle and my idea of cold is 45 degrees.

Yukon, Alaska.

[He answers, with a breath; not good times in his life, to say the least.]

I wouldn't do it again, not even if there was something strangely peaceful about it.

Of course you have to feel peaceful at a place like that. If you get restless, it's not like you can just hop in a car and go somewhere else with all that snow and ice. Give me a nice Seattle winter anyday.

I'd like to go back to Mumbai.

[If he could live anywhere on Earth.]

Or Brazil, even.

[this piques her curiosity]

Yeah? What're they like? I've never really gone anywhere before, except for here.

Warmer. Busy. I liked Mumbai best, it was extremely- serene, despite the chaos. I don't think that makes sense.

I could use a little warmth right now. [she thinks for a moment] Nah. It makes sense. Like you made your own little eye in the middle of the hurricane.

It's also a much more faith centered community. Not that there isn't conflict- there is. But people have a system of beliefs and you see more signs of it everywhere. I like America's diversity and intellectual anarchy, but calming it is not.

Do people pray to these gods here?

[she smiles] Maybe I'd like to go there someday. Assuming I ever get outta here. And no, calming it definitely isn't. Even if you got a little farmhouse in the middle of Kansas, there's still the news.

Nah. I don't think so, anyway. We ask 'em for stuff and they make us do things to get it, but that's all.

Okay- so this is definitely what should be the centre of town.

I don't remember what this place looks like, exactly.

[she turns in a circle, looking around her] Well. I see the Clinic and the Science Lab. Which is lucky for me since I work at both places. And over in the distance there, it looks like the Colosseum. That's gonna be fun when the new arrivals and monsters show up.

That's right, you were here before, weren't you?

I didn't know you worked at the science lab.

[Glancing around;]

Yeah, I was here, but I'm totally scrambled, still.

Yeah. I help Newt with the monsters. When we had monsters, anyway.

And this "hey, let's screw everyone over by moving shit to different islands" thing probably isn't helping.

Yeah, it's weird how much territory there is on here and how they scrambled us.

[Glancing around him with a frown.]

I know. The Clinic and the Guard Headquarters used to be next to each other. We had to rebuild them both after the Null attack. Now the Clinic's here and who the fuck knows where the Guard HQ is.

[she presses her lips together and tries to not look as confused as she is]

As much as I'd like to keep ignoring Fear forever, I think we're due for a conversation.

[He says, reluctantly.]

I can't imagine he has much control when he's making these jumps.
