Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

► This log covers May 27th-June 10th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you drown or get eaten by an alien shark, let us know here.

No no, you have it backwards. Here.

[Caedra holds out her hand and speaks a short incantation, and an image shimmers to life above her palm. It's a complex wheel of an image, with spokes connecting from one place to another, but across the middle horizontally is a row of circles. The whole thing is encased in a larger circle, and above it is an image of a mountain. Below, everything seems to drain into a river, or the roots of a large tree, and connected to those branching pathways are other diagrams. One is an upside down triangle divided into nine tiers; another is a long corkscrew that looks posed to engulf all else - or perhaps it is the mouth from which everything came.]

Inside the big circle are the material worlds. That circle is the astral plane. The ones outside are the outer planes, and the center is this spiral one down here. And this is just a fraction of how much there really is.

Sorry, I was never any good at science.

[she watches curiously as the image forms. it will take her a long time to get used to magic since her world is so very mundane. she resists the urge to poke at it and see if it sets anything into motion]

What's the mountain supposed to represent?
abyssalarcana: (so he can boil the disobedient)

whoops bad < /small> tag up there that I just now noticed! what I get for trying to tag on mobile

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-04 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Science?

[Caedra looks at the girl quizzically - is this science? Who knows. It's just the way things are.

But never mind that, the mountain question.]

Oh, all sorts of creatures live there. Angels, gods, that sort of thing. Some of them anyway. I don't know much about it, just that there's supposedly a big mountain so they use it to symbolize the place pretty often.

[She shrugs, looks unbothered. Smiles. Nope, no reason she's never been to a place like that!]
myrealname: (be careful what you're wishing)

I can't tag on mobile, the constant switching between keyboards drives me nuts.

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-04 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. You know, like how and why the universe works. Stuff like that.

[it seems like science to her?]

So angels and gods are real? Freaky. I never really bought into any of that crap.

[the truth. Jane isn't exactly an atheist, but she's no true believer either]
abyssalarcana: (prone to wander endlessly)

given it was either mobile or no tags yesterday I caved

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-04 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, but - well. All right, we can call this science.

[It really doesn't matter to her what name you give it. It's not a very well-established field, in her experience, but she also doesn't care.

It's the second admission that seems to interest her more, as she nods a little, maintaining a neutral, but vaguely positive, expression on her face.]

Of course they're real. I have heard that some here come from worlds where their effects aren't as obvious, though, so I understand why you might not realize. But there are worlds where the gods walk, and speak with their devoted followers. And the fact that creatures here mock them by calling themselves gods probably is very offensive to some of them.

[Because that's the only reason she has to bother to convince these people the gods are real. They are, objectively - but nonbelievers provide an abundance of souls for the grey wastes, if not the Abyss directly and so she finds little wrong with a lack of belief, normally. But, she assumes that these mortals will be more likely to defer to control by their kidnappers if they truly think they are gods, whether out of fear or deference.]
myrealname: (but I'd be love and sweetness)

okay, that makes sense!

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-04 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
According to the Bible, god used to mess with stuff all the time. You know, smiting and blessing and things like that, even supposedly sending his son to die for everyone's sins. The whole direct intervention stuff sort of stopped after that.

If they aren't gods, what are they?

[she doesn't like the gods, what little she's seen of them]
abyssalarcana: (I saw there a great abyss)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-06-04 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
['Bible' she recognizes as a word for book, but the rest is new to her. Local mythology. She wonders what happened to that god, then - did it stop because it changed how it interacted, or was it killed? Who knows.]

They're just people. Some other race than human, and capable of some powerful magic, but there are people here too who are likely just as strong. We just don't have control of the Door, and they do.
myrealname: (forget about yours now what about mine)

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-05 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
[she wouldn't know. she knows the basic Bible stories, Adam and Eve, Noah's Arc, David and Goliath, and of course Jesus. but she wasn't raised with religion and it seemed strange to pick it up later in life]

What about what they just did? Taking my foot and things like that.

It's still not beyond the capabilities of several here. I can enter - and alter - a person's dreams. There's an elf lich here who - well, to become a lich in the first place, she likely knows magic that makes her nearly godlike herself. And there are plenty of others here - wizards, but also others with unusual innate powers.

[Caedra shrugs.]

It isn't that these things are common, but that they exist. Magical ability does not make someone divine. I certainly don't claim myself to be a god.
myrealname: (maybe you miss the point?)

[personal profile] myrealname 2018-06-05 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[she takes a moment to process this]

...those lying sacks of shit. Where do they get off, taking stuff from people to what? Fuck with their heads?

[Jane lies like breathing, but she hates being lied to]

The common argument here is that those creatures feed off emotion. So they manipulate us to force us to react, and that gives them energy to then do other things. Those names they have us call them by aren't just cute nicknames, but their source of food.

[Yes, it's very annoying, Caedra agrees, but she doesn't and has never reacted in quite so strong a way. Feeding off of fear, or sorrow, or anger are quite common among some of her own people.]
