Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[Kelson had always been taught to be gallant toward the fairer sex, so he acquiesced.]

How are you fairing so far? Have you taken chill?

I'm all right. I was in a tanktop and jeans when the switch happened, so I'm a little cold but it's nothing I can't handle. I was thinking about heading out to see if any of the shops relocated with us and if they have a jacket.

[He was taught by the best in his opinion, Kel would have been happy to pass on his knowledge.]

Yes. Be sure to find something warm. I'm sure the nights will be chilly as well.

[now the only question is, would the lessons take?]

Lucky for me, I've always liked sweater sets and knit skirts. I'll have an excuse to stock up, assuming the stores are nice and have any.

[Lessons were more firmly entrenched if there were consequences to not following through with them. Those lessons might be less learned with only Kelson to enforce them.]

[Knit skirts he could figure out. Although the image he was conveying in his mind was most certainly not what Laura was thinking of.]

Yeah. Knit tanktops with a matching cardigan over 'em. A cardigan is like a jacket, only soft and it has a row of buttons down the front.

[Kelson smiled as Laura anticipated his question and answered it.]

And those are popular in your time? And...appropriate?

Yeah, they're popular enough. And it's not like they're low-cut or anything.

[he'd probably faint if she ever wore any of her Nighttime Laura wardrobe around him]

[He could very much imagine something low cut, and he didn't think there was anyone here who he could confess such a thought too. And yes, he'd probably blush and stare and turn away really fast because that just couldn't be proper.]

And low cut clothing is.....less typical?

[he's a teenage boy and Laura has him so thoroughly friendzoned that the idea of wearing any of Nighttime Laura's clothing in front of him doesn't even occur to her. if she did, she'd also blush and turn away and feel really, really, really awkward]

Yeah. Absolutely. Way less typical.

Is it typical where you're from?

[Kelson was definitely a teenage boy, and here even with his nagging longing for the woman he could never have, here he was more free from responsibilities. And women who wanted things from him. So, he noticed. ]

Most definitely not. I think some of the clothes people wear here is actually against the law in Gwynedd.

[Laura is used to seeing men only as whether or not she'd have sex with them (definitely not sleeping with them and never making love). so having a guy who is a friend is a new experience for her]

Seriously? [she laughs] Now I've gotta ask what.

Most of what people wear here would be considered indecent. I've seen people walking around in practically their smalls.

[Kind of like what she's probably wearing now.]

[That, thankfully, is a lot better. He appreciates the wool too.]

[she finds herself being more like Daytime Laura the longer she lives here. she doesn't have access to the vices Nighttime Laura enjoyed and the few times she's brought her out, people reacted badly]

...I. Um. Well, bras. They kind of hold a woman's breasts in place. And panties go over the rear end and--and other stuff. And boxers and briefs also go over the rear end and. Stuff.

[It took Kelson a few seconds to put that all together. Finally comprehension drew onto his face. He completely didn't understand the point of a bra, but the others....]

So they're like braies or smallclothes. Do you wear them all the time?

[Really Kelson had no problem with nudity, it was just nudity of the opposite sex. He was concerned for your virtue, Laura!]

Yeah. Unless you're in your nightclothes, then you don't bother.

[Luckily for women in Gwynedd, most didn't wear them. Not his kind of medieval torture device. Kelson cocked his head, thinking. He didn't see the point in wearing something like braies all the time. But, maybe it was different where she was from?]

Yes. I know women wear them....during their time. But why wear something like that every day?

I dunno, actually. People just do it. [she thinks a moment] I guess if you didn't wear 'em, asshole guys would try flipping up your skirt and see what you've got? But they do shit like that, anyway.
