Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

That would be lovely. If we do have one, I would look forward to it. And to see such a lovely lady as yourself.

[she smiles brightly]

You flatter me. But, I too would like to see a handsome king such as yourself in his finery.

We would make a lovely pair.

[As they should, kings and queens in their own right. Kelson returns the gesture with a small flirting smile. Poor boy doesn't have much practice.]

We would. I'd have to pay extra attention to the making of your costume, of course.

[she notices the smile and gives him a flirty smile in return]

Extra attention. Would you really?

[Goodness flirting was different when the other person flirted back wasn't it? Kelson felt vaguely guilty about his little crush on Margaery, as if he was being unfaithful to Rothana. The nun who wasn't going to marry him. Because nun.]

Of course I would! You're a king. Your outfit should be worthy of one.

[Margaery is a natural flirt, too, even taking her lifelong training in the art into account. she sees flirting as harmless fun]

I don't always require such treatment, but thank you.

[Was this a 'wear your crown Kelson, you're in public' moment?]

You're welcome. Besides, you're a friend. Friends do good things for one another.

[Friends. Not because of a oath of allegiance or loyalty and duty to the crown, just because. Friends. He only had one of those back home, and Dhugal was more a brother than a friend. Then he really didn't have any friends, did he? No wonder he was so lonely.]

Yes, I suppose they do. Friend.

[Margaery would be able to relate. back in King's Landing, she had no friends (with the possible exception of Sansa for a while), only allies and enemies.

she beams at him]

I don't just suppose, I know, my friend.

[Friends, it was an interesting concept, and harder by nature, for someone of higher station. You could be friends with someone lower than you, but there was always that hanging over. Morgan was more like family, like a father, he had been his fathers friend and right hand and now Kelson's. But that was a different kind of friendship. The only contemporary he really had besides Dhugal was that 10 year old boy-king. Maybe he could make that happen when he got back. It would be nice to have another king as a friend.]

Are we really?

[He gave a smile.]

[Margaery had only one friend in King's Landing, Sansa. other than that, she had her Tyrell cousins who were dependable allies, but not really friends. and she had enemies, Cersei and her lickspittles. but only one friend and that for a short period of time]

Of course we are! After everything, you really have to ask?

[she beams back]

I didn't want to assume. I am grateful for your friendship.

[Friendships were good to have, allies as well, especially here in unfamiliar and potentially hostile territory.]

As I am grateful to have yours. There are some things that only one who has worn a crown knows.

[friendships are of utmost importance here. friends you can depend on to confide in, trust, . . . avenge your death]

Yes, that is quite true. Some may understand a little, those who work closely with you, but not completely.

[Some things only those who have worn a crown understand, those who have had to make such decisions that end or start.]

No. Although they try. Sometimes.

[Margaery never had anyone who really tried. she had to keep up the pretense that everything was fine with her Tyrell cousins and her other ladies. she was left with an unsatisfactory marriage and the strain of her conflicts with Cersei all on her own]

[Kelson had that advantage, he was surrounded by a good support system. His father and grandfather had provided well, even if his mother had tried to wreck it. Kelson had people who were dukes and earls in their own rights, governed on smaller scales and had acted as advisors to his own father. Maybe it would have been easier if he had talked more about it all with his father when he still had the chance. But, what thirteen year old wants to think that his father would be murdered after twenty five years of peace?]

They do. If they're good advisors, and understand. Were your council members not up to the task?

[no one wants to think that. much less prepare for it. but he was fortunate to have the support system he had. Margaery knew she could depend on her grandmother, but she was all Margaery had.

she laughs bitterly] Hardly. The council was loaded with Cersei's syncophants, including Cersei's pet rat and spy, Qyburn. Qyburn was once a Maester, but they took his chain away from him. Some say that he dissected the living and dabbled in even blacker arts. And my father was too blinded by his own ambition and the glory of having his daughter as the queen to provide a counterbalance.

[Kelson had a lot more than some Gwynedd kings, he knew. And it seems some Westerosi queens.]

A council with their own agenda is no council at all. It makes ruling hard if not impossible. I am sorry you had to go through that.

[Parts of her world reminded him of Gwynedd's history, of what Gwynedd was hundreds of years ago, during the dark times, and after the Restoration. When everything should have been fine but it wasn't. ]

He disected the living and he was allowed on the council?

[Kelson knew the answer before he even asked. No, there probably had been no trial, or it had been a sham. He had been useful, so he was kept. And no one with scruples had enough power to do anything about it.]

[Margaery was trained from birth by her grandmother, but Tommen's spinelessness and Cersei's. . .everything weren't taken into account]

Thank you. I did what I could to influence Tommen into making wiser decisions, but he was too meek to see them through.

[Westeros was falling apart at the seams and it seems to Margaery that only Daenerys taking the Iron Throne for herself would begin to set things right]

He was. He created a monster out of a dying man to serve as Cersei's protector. He never removed his helm, but I could still see the blue skin and blood red eyes.

I'm sure you did the best you could under the circumstances, although they do sound terribly familiar. I do hope that means that one day your land will be stabalized.

[Gwynedd was certainly doing better than Westeros was at the moment. Hopefully it wouldn't take 200 years to sort them out and Daenerys would do her job well.]

That's horrid and unnatural and...

[Kelson shivered, remembering the spell placed on his father's corpse, tying his soul. He wouldn't wish that on anyone. That was very dark magic.]

Yes. I did the best I could. Charitable works and whatnot. Matters of policy, I was blocked by Cersei's council every time.

[Daenerys is a Targaryen, the line that united the Seven Kingdoms in the first place. the Tyrells fought on the Targaryen side during Robert's Rebellion. and Daenerys was born to rule, proving herself in Essos before returning to the land of her birth]

It was all of that and more. It had a sword that could cleave a horse's neck straight through. Even without its sword, it was strong enough to crush a man's skull with his hand. And it was utterly Cersei's creature.

[tying his soul? that sounds very unpleasant]

There is only so much you can do without the support of those around you, especially if your council is strong, and the king is not. Or unable to act. It happened in Gwynedd hundreds of years ago, if rumors are to be believed. Kings drugged senseless cannot argue with their council lords.

[Kelson shook his head.]

The creature sounds vile. I hope it was put down.

[she shakes her head] The council wasn't strong. What they were was utterly in Cersei's thrall and Tommen loved his mother too much to ever think ill of her. And kings drugged senseless in order to keep them compliant? How disgusting.

So far as I know, he still lives.
