Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

Nick nods, his pen still by the eastern island before he starts adding features to it. His artistic skills leave something to be desired, but it gets the point across: there's the orchard and a couple of temples, then he adds the hot springs after checking his notes. He'll have to get more approximate locations for them within the island's perimeter later.

"Knock on wood. It's gonna be hard for some folks to get food, given the split. We've got the Speakeasy, east has the orchard. Wherever the stores ended up should be all right."

He sighs. He prefers detective work to cartography.

[circumitus]

Considering what's left of Nick's hand, Rey would have to say his cartography is impressive enough. He doesn't have the luxury of being able to maneuver his handiwork like Rey with her... 'reports' that she used to submit to the Guard. She was never fond of paperwork, anyway. The Speakeasy and just working on her own at least offers some level of autonomy without a paper trail to worry about.

"And even then, the Speakeasy needs to be stocked manually. The gods don't do shit for me here."

Which was the point. Rey wanted to run this place self-sufficiently, no exceptions.

"It's better that way," Nick murmurs to himself, knowing that autonomy was a major factor for Rey going into the Speakeasy business. After some of the stunts the gods have pulled with the food and drinks in the past, he doesn't blame her for one second for wanting to keep as much in her hands as possible.

"Speaking of the gods, we might have to ask about a bridge or two. Maybe bring it up with Tranquility."

[circumitus]

Rey is quick to jump on the chance of a subject shift, glancing at her phone in her hand.

"Mn, was thinking of contacting him with something along those lines. No doubt they'll probably complain that we can't all just swim or grow wings and fly between islands."

Confusion seems more partial to complaints while Tranquility has expressed a less than caring attitude more often than not. She hates talking to them about anything, really.

"Better not give them any ideas on what to do to us next when you ask," he replies with a glance Rey's way. "I don't want to end up with a set of wings stuck on this chassis. My coat has enough holes as it is."

He doesn't doubt for one second the gods wouldn't pull a crazy stunt like that. It sounds right up Confusion's alley -- maybe Fear's, too. Delight would have had a field day with a suggestion like that.

"Curufin is working on boats," he continues, "but some of us would prefer to keep our feet on solid ground. A heavy hunk of metal like me and deep water don't exactly mix."

[circumitus]

Thinking about that, Rey snorts into her hand. "I don't know, I think you'd look pretty cool with robot wings. Maybe with a little bit of rust..."

Got to have that old 'bot aesthetic, you know. Nick just wouldn't be Nick without it.

Her brow then creases.

"Mn, right. Don't suppose you know how to swim?" Not that that would matter, considering he's got exposed wirings all over.
