The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.
The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.
And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...► This log covers May 27th-June 10th.

Well, who knows how deep it is, really, it's... there's n-no way of knowing.
[At least that's familiar. Maybe not in a good way.]
I, uhm... there was a big waterfall, where I lived, that went into a cavern no one could see the b-bottom of. I used to think about what was there all the time. Where the water might go.
no subject
[Which should really not be scientifically possible, but given the weird magic of the gods and everything they've faced here, Adam would not be so terribly surprised to discover that was true.]
Did anyone ever find out? Where the water went, I mean?
[Drained from the bottom somehow, Adam would guess, but he has a scientific mind. After everything, he knows that's not how it always is. He's sure Alphys knows plenty of things that he doesn't, too.
He sort of misses school.]

No, n-not really. It, uh... it probably went to the ocean, but. I always sort of hoped it was a portal to another world. Something-- somewhere else, where everything was different. And then I ended up here anyway, I guess, so!
[She thinks she was right, anyway. Provided she hit the bottom before she got here.]
no subject
That's a nice thought. Or a bad one, I guess, depending on how much you like the world you're in. I wouldn't have minded a portal when I was at home. Sometimes, anyway.
[Not that it was all bad. But a lot of it was.]
It's interesting to think about.

I always thought it would be k-kind of exciting, you know? Like a show, where, I'd end up somewhere else and become the protagonist and s-save the world. But it's, uh... it's harder to live it. This wasn't the adventure I thought, I guess.
[Could have been the one she needed, though.]
I guess it must be hard for anime characters to be so happy all the t-time on their journey, too. But it's easier when you know the ending.

[He grins a little, wry. Adam has always had trouble even seeing himself as the protagonist of his own story - there are so many who outshine him. Quiet stubbornness and hard work are not usually the traits of a main character, after all, and Adam was never prone to the sorts of flights of fancy that would imagine otherwise.]
It's all right not being that, though. I mean, we all do what we can to survive here, and sometimes it sucks. I'm surprised any of us manage to be happy at all.
[Even him, more often than he'd expect.]
no subject
Yeah, that's-- y-yeah. I guess I didn't appreciate how easy it was to live other places?? Even if this isn't so different from the Underground a lot of the time.
... I guess I'm just excited to see it at all. Lucky that I get to have these new experiences. See new things.

[He's not sure he has it in him to feel the same way. At home, things were getting better. He had a future, maybe, and he was out from under his father's thumb. Here - it's sort of a holding pattern.
But it's not all bad.]
I'm lucky I got to meet interesting people. Like you, and Lance, and Sharon.
no subject
Well, I mean-- s-same! I'm glad I've gotten to meet so many interesting people, and especially humans. I always wanted to meet humans, and, I mean... it hasn't always gone well. But I have so many human friends now! It's so nice.
[Just having friends is nice, really, but we're not gonna go there right now.]
It's been an adventure, uhm, either way.
no subject
[But still, way less interesting than monsters and other creatures. Adam has no particular affection for humans, despite technically being one himself.]
So it's cool to be able to meet other beings. Where I'm from there aren't people like you, or really much except humans. Mostly.
no subject
I mean, I'm not that exciting, I-- I c-could say the same for you! Humans are so exciting. I had only ever met one before I came here, and they were, uhm... well, I mean, there are all kinds of humans. But I think they're all pretty cool.
no subject
[A lot. Maybe most humans? There are a few decent ones, though, he can't deny that. And there are certainly a lot of cool power on display here.]
You're a scientist, so even if you weren't also another species, you'd be pretty interesting. I've always liked science.
no subject
I k-kind of remember that. Not really remember, because it wasn't real, but from that town Tranquility made. You were a good student.
[And somehow she was a teacher, which seems like a much too anxiety inducing position. But it doesn't matter how she got there when it was all fake.]
If you ever want to, uh, d-do more with that, you can come by the Lab anytime.
no subject
[He grins. Honestly, part of him misses school, misses having that structure to his days and always knowing what he needed to be doing, what he was working towards. He's found other things to fill his days with here, but it's not quite the same.]
I don't know if I'd be any help. I mean, I took advanced classes, but I was still just in high school. I could help organize stuff though, maybe, like at the clinic.
no subject
Oh, no, I mean-- if you just wanna learn stuff. You don't need to, uhm, be working on a-anything, really. You can just study and experiment on stuff. There isn't really textbooks or anything, but we're all kind of learning on the fly right now.
no subject
[He brightens a little at that. Adam might prefer something like a formal class, with goals to reach and set requirements, but he likes the idea of this too. Just being able to learn, to try things out.]
I'd like that a lot. I - miss learning things.
no subject
Yeah! Please, uhm. Come by a-anytime. I'll see what I can teach you. Or maybe someone else can, uh, you never know!
no subject
[And he means it. Adam likes to keep himself busy, and he likes learning, and the lab seems perfect for that.]
I guess I should head back before my friend does anything dangerous like... jump into the ocean.
no subject
G-Go on, then. I'll see you around the Lab soon?
[She leaves it on that upswing. A little hope. Something she can do against the darkness.]
no subject
Yeah. I'm gonna make some time to come by. I'll see you soon for sure.
no subject
Okay! See you then!
[And she continues on the shoreline, more excited for the future.]
