Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[How very gay of Alphys to hone exactly in on that part of it.]

Yeah, but even when we get a giant bridge or whatever crossing between islands, that doesn't mean we still can't make a sleepover night at the lab on the reg. C'mon, Alphy, just us girls.

[Of course she's gonna hone in on the part that lets them spend time alone together, what do you take her for, someone who's not super bi?]

Well, I-- I gu-- okay?? There's really only one bed though it's just a p-pull out couch so it might be kind of cramped?? For you?? If thats okay!!!

Don't worry, hun, I'm all about squeezing into cramped spaces. We can just curl up together real close. Get our girl cuddle on.

[Which is absolutely the best kind of cuddling. That's a proven fact.]

Paint our nails. Chow down on some choice snacks. Hey, we can even watch more of your cartoon or whatever.

[Lup just says things with such confidence that Alphys has no choice but to believe her. It's kind of a problem, because Lup could probably drag her into something SUPER ridiculous if given the opportunity just on the virtue of making it sound like a decent idea.

Still, she sputters and gives in.]

I-- wh-- well!!! I guess!! If that's okay!!

[aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAA]

If we run out of Mew Mew episodes I, uhm, I got another series when everyone's items came in! It's about space outlaws!!!

[Can and will. You best believe.

Though is it a surprise to anyone at the way the elf's eyes light up a little at the mention of space outlaws? Get outta here, Mew Mew, Lup has outlaw fantasies to live out through anime.]

I am in, girlie. So in. Wanna set up for this weekend sometime?

[Big fear. But Alphys gets excited to see Lup hype- she bets she's going to like Faye a lot.]

Okay! I'm really not doing much, just hanging, so once I can get my laptop--

[Oh, right, the point of this conversation.]

Right, uh, w-what was the plan with that?

[Right back to where they started. Lup grins, wide and toothy, and lifts her hands to wiggle her fingers. She sure doesn't mean for the whole image to look threatening, but with her whole looming and Big Presence, sometimes she comes off as a lot.

But no one knows that better than Alphys.]

Want a ride home? For you? Free of charge. [For today, at least.]

[Listen, she trusts Lup, she'd just really like to know what's going on at basically all times. And Lup does not like telling her those things. In fact, Alphys is pretty sure she enjoys specifically NOT telling her things sometimes.]

Y-Yes, but... do I get to know how? Yet?

[Just take her and go Lup, she's made of dust, she's gotta be like 50 pounds.]

[Good to know that Alphys knows Lup as well as she does. Because the elf absolutely loves not telling her things on purpose.]

Nooope! That makes it so much more exciting though, right? C'mon, babe. I'll let you hold my hand an' everything.

[And now, she has to confront it. Is she willing to run into danger just for the chance to hold hands with a pretty girl?

... Well, she ran into dream fire with her and got immolated, so. It wasn't real real, BUT....

Oh who is she kidding yes she will.]

... Okay. I, I trust you?

[Does she. Does she take the hand now? Alphys is absolutely just looking between her face and her arms hoping for a sign.]

Hell yeah, you do!

[Lup waits for a moment, still grinning, and just when the pause between the two women lingers long enough to dip into awkward, she finally holds out her hand.

Do it, Alphys. Do it.]

[Alphys just stares until Lup holds out her hand. Is this how she dies? She's pretty sure this is how she dies.

Well, wouldn't be the first time. So she does.]

So, uh, a-are you gonna tell me what's gonna happen now, or--

[Naturally, Lup waits until Alphys is in mid-sentence to cast Teleport, absolutely taking the two of them right into Alphy's living room.]

Ta-da! How's that?

[That sentence immediately turns into a yell once they've landed, Alphys' eyes going wide as she looks around fervently. Funnily enough, it's not the first time she's been teleported- Sans' "shortcuts" were always a little more dizzying, but it's the same effect. Still, though, Sans usually gave her some warning. Her grip is tighter on Lup's hand even after they've landed, wheezing slightly as she looks up at the other woman.]

Ohmygosh. You-- You do that too. Ohhhhmygod, okay! I mean!!! Okay!!!

[SHE IS HERE NOW SO, SURE, OKAY]

[C'mon, Alphys. It's just so much better without notice! It's like, a fun surprise. Right? Right???

While Alphys looks more than a little taken back by the spell, Lup's expression is full knife cat. This is her greatest accomplishment.]

Can't believe you ever doubted me, chickadee. Haven't we been through enough together? [And while Alphys flails a little, Lup's just gonna plop down onto the nearby couch, right on her back, legs kicked up against the chair arms.]

Haven't I proven myself as a Grade-A, bomb-ass wizard yet?

[She just wheezes a bit, substituting Lup's hand for the chair arm to steady herself, and then just slumping with her forhead pressed against it for balance.]

I knew that, I, I always knew that, you just, y-you're... surprising.

[Let's go with that. Sure. After a few moments, she tries to steady herself.]

People in my world don't just-- just do that, you know. I only knew one person who could do stuff like that, e-ever.

[Surprising she'll take. Surprising is appropriate.]

Natch. [But the smile Lup sends Alphys' way, sharp and toothy and so so teasing, softens just a little to reveal just a touch of affection behind it. It's strange to think they've been friends for nearly a year now. Time in this place is just flying by.]

Well, now you know a couple of 'em, Taako an' Barry an' I. And any one of us would be happy to use up a spellslot or two to help you out, Alphy. You're a family friend.

[She tries to formulate a proper response to that, but all that comes out is 'gggggghhhhhhhh' and her face getting progressively redder.]

Well! If you, uh, ever need some tech. Stuff! Done. I'll be there! With my, uhm, screwdrivers. And things.

[It feels-- silly, up against everything else they can do and she can't. But she's trying.]

Hey, that's just what we need sometimes. Magic is life, sure, but it doesn't always solve every single problem. Sometimes you need a good screwdriver.

[No one knows as much as Lup how sometimes magic just doesn't cut it.]

Mind if I catch a nap on your couch? Gotta recharge some spellslots so I can get back home before dinner.

[She does smile at that, something small and gentle.]

Yeah. I mean, I-- yeah! T-Take as much time as you need, I'm gonna pack some stuff.

[And right on cue, a cat with WAY too many eyes saunters in, letting out a low whine. Alphys sighs.]

And leave the pets some treats as an apology for being gone, gosh.
