Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

I am sure your lovely lady wife was a model of good behaviour!

[ "Aulë, we have a small problem. Do you think you could, um. . . ?" ]

She was, except she married me!

[ Maglor raises an eyebrow at him ]

Yes I can see how marrying my disreputable brother made cracks in her good behaviour!

[ Curufin smiles back. ]

But I thought she did pretty well with the situation, considering.

Besides, I made sure that if anybody was going to cast any aspersions, they cast them at me, not her.

[ This is true. If he even heard a whisper of disapproval being directed at Sulriel for her choice of a mate, Curufin tracked down the whisperer and tossed that person over the garden wall. ]

I think she rather thought so.

[ Maglor says fondly ]

It grieved us all when you drifted apart.

[so_dark_a_road]

She was an admirable person, in every way.

[ He smiles at Maglor, appreciating that his brother had liked Sulriel and had had high hopes for the relationship. Maglor had wanted his little brother to be happy. ]

Only if you mean drifting in the sense of icebergs in a frozen sea. We crashed into one another over that matter of the Oath. And that was our demise.

[bythewaves]

It was the demise of most of us, I think. [ Maglor says sadly ]

We were so young then. So naive still.

[so_dark_a_road]

And so it was. [ With equal sadness. ]

We were young and naive, yes. We had no idea how large and strange was the universe we were born into and had to live our lives in. How could we have known?

[bythewaves]

[ Maglor reaches out to touch the screen, as if to touch his brother ]

We learnt. [ He says softly ] I wish I could have spared you the lessoning.

[ Curufin reaches also, as though to touch Maglor's fingers. It feels, for a moment, as though only a thin glass window separates them, and not the miles that are actually between. ]

We had no choice but to learn by experience. [ With equal softness ] And I know you would have shielded me if you could have. But alas! no one can protect another from experience. No matter how great is the love.

[bythewaves]

[ They are too far to truly reach each other, but brothers they remain, and some things neither of them need to say, fingers resting opposite each other on the glass ]

I know. My dear one. I am so glad you are here now, Curvo!
