Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

I don't think a lot of people are worried about the rights of the vaguely undead. [Which, Jo kind of dislikes describing George as.]

They don't even know about it.

Well, shit. I guess I'm gonna have to go for random scholarships and grants and hope for the best?

You're gonna have to. There's no way I can pay for it.

[toiletseat_girl]

Didn't think you would. I can figure something out. Probably.

Doctors make a lot of money. Right? You'll be fine.

[toiletseat_girl]

That's what I've heard. But that's not why I'm doing it. [a pause] Okay, not completely why I'm doing it.

[knifecollecting]

[Jo laughs quietly.]

It's okay to want money.

[toiletseat_girl]

I guess. I mean, I'm gonna need a lot of it since I'm gonna be paying for med school forever and I'm gonna live forever if I go to another world.

[knifecollecting]

The Reaper thing doesn't stop ever? [Hmm. That's kind of sad.]

[toiletseat_girl]

It does in my world. But like I said, I'm not going back there. [there's so little to go back to]

[knifecollecting]

Shit, what's going to happen to Jo in that scenario? She's dead after all.]

You can't practice medicine forever.

[toiletseat_girl]

[she's coming with, duh!]

So I wait until the whole no-aging thing becomes a problem and I invent a new identity. Betty said it was important to do that, anyway, to keep things fresh.

[Will Jo age? She's worried about that.]

Is cutting and running really the best thing? [Jo, it's like, the only option here. She knows that.]

[well. there's one way to find out?]

It's not like I can just stay in place and like. Not age. That would get noticed eventually.

Maybe it would be better to find somewhere remote.

[toiletseat_girl]

Remote? After this? Nooooo way.

You want to be in a big city somewhere surrounded by strangers?

[toiletseat_girl]

I want to be someplace with more than one bar, more than one hospital so I can just kind of--move between them as the aging thing becomes an issue, and where I can get Chinese food delivered at 3am.

[knifecollecting]

That sounds too big to me. [Last time Jo actually lived somewhere it was a small town in the middle of the Great Plains.]

Seriously? But it could be fun. An adventure! [and George grew up in suburbia. and hated it]

[Yeah, maybe. Jo shrugs.]

I'm not sure Chinese at 3 a.m. is the kind of adventure I want.

Fine, pizza. Who doesn't love pizza?

I've known a few people who don't. [She chuckles.]

Why are we eating at 3 in the morning anyway?

[toiletseat_girl]

Seriously? Did you check their pulses? [her eyebrows raise]

I'm assuming I would be because I'll be starting off at the absolute bottom of the totem pole and so they'll stick me with the shit hours.

They were alive and human. [It's an important distinction in her world. George knows.]

And you're willing to do that every few decades?
