Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

► This log covers May 27th-June 10th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you drown or get eaten by an alien shark, let us know here.

Once the city's shifted, Gren goes to stand near the ocean, and he doesn't seem to notice or care that he's getting wet from the rain. He's looking out at the churning, wine-dark see and its rocky shores with something like familiarity on his face-- he was born on a Nordic island, after all.

He does notice, though, some lady having a temper tantrum not that far away, and her annoyed question.

"Nope," he says, "I voted for the iceball planet, but I'll take it. This is better than bein' in the middle of a fuckin' jungle."

He's not really built to tolerate heat, and he's real goddamn tired of being hot all the time after that stint in the desert. But oceans? He can handle oceans. He can handle oceans all goddamn day.

"What was wrong with the jungle?" she replies irritably. "At least we would have a whole world to explore easily. Even if someone makes a few boats, we're mostly stranded here."

There is information to be gained on this world, she knows that. But the main reason they came here, supposedly, was that the Null would be less likely to find them. So what? Why keep running? Why not fight them head on? And if they do find this little city here, they're all just a bunch of sitting ducks now.

"Aside from it bein' hot as fuck?" he replies. "There ain't shit on it that's useful to us. The iceball would've been best, because it's got the fuckin' embassies on it or whatever, but this is where they found the Door. Sorrow said there's probably other shit still around, too."

It's a good place to hide from the Null and a place where they might be able to find information. That makes it a decent candidate for 'places to go after you get your ass kicked by a bunch of robots' in his book, because they're going to need more information on the Null before they go toe-to-toe with them again. Gren's not real fond of getting his shit wrecked.

"And what's wrong with a little fuckin' water? Can't you swim?"

The lead on the Door is obviously useful and she won't deny it, and so she nods along at his reply. She's just mad for personal, emotional reasons. If this gets her back home sooner, it will have been worth the reminder of the suffering she had gone through. That wasn't really her, that was another person's life. None of it matters now.

But she rolls her eyes at his question. "Have you ever tried to fight in water? Or what if we need to flee? It limits our options. I can swim, sure, but not as quickly. And who knows what lives in there."
murderpotato: (This is my smolder.)

"Sister, I'm better in water than I am on land, and I'm pretty fuckin' good there, too."

Underneath that lanky, 80s asshole glamour of his, he's a big ol' murderpotato, and he grew up literally living in his mom's basement at the bottom of a lake. Water, he can handle. If the Null try to take him on in the ocean, he'll wreck their asses harder than those hippies wrecked Woodstock.

"And we ain't gonna need to run if the Null don't look here at all. We'd be just as up shit creek, anyway, if we tried runnin' off on either of the other planets. People'd freeze on the iceball and get eaten or some shit in the jungle."

He shrugs with his one good shoulder. "Transport's gonna fuckin' suck for a while, yeah, but people've been usin' boats since forever. Shit'll get sorted."
abyssalarcana: (greater than earthly darkness)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-05-29 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
She holds up a finger as he goes on, then immediately jumps in once he stops talking.

"First things first: I am not your 'sister'. Secondly, I don't care. This whole thing could have been easily averted if the assholes who pretend to be gods had used their heads at any point. I'm not here to fight their battles, and I don't care if the rest of you get yourselves killed."
murderpotato: (And then there's this asshole)

[personal profile] murderpotato 2018-05-29 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"You ain't got much of a choice. When the Null show up again, they won't give half a shit if you don't want to fight these asshole's battles, they're gonna try to kill your ass. Hate to break it to you, but even if you can fight a good fight, there's a hell of a lot more of them than there are of you."

That's the ship they're all on, right now. It sucks, but enemy of my enemy and all that shit.

"And I fuckin' get it, I don't like the gods any more than you do. They're fuckin' assholes and they dragged all of us into their blood feud or whatever the fuck this is without givin' us a choice. You wanna make it out of this bullshit in one piece? Gotta work with all of us, fuckin' like it or not. We die and there ain't anybody standin' between you and the robot horde."

Gren's been in this shithole of a city for too long to think that he can tough all of this bullshit out on his own. Been there, done that, cooperation is way easier. And if he's managed to not drop glamour, eat a few annoying people, and fuck off into the sunset by now, anybody can do it.

"Enlightened goddamn self-interest. Try it sometime."
abyssalarcana: (screaming tearing bleeding)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-05-29 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
In a matter of seconds, Caedra's rapier takes form in her hand and she holds it at the ready, black eyes watching his every move as if daring him to fuck up.

"Who in the depths are you, that you think you can just show up here and tell me what to do?"

She can't die. Not here, anyway. If the Null want to descend and kill the gods and all these people it won't bother her one bit. Working together? Slim chance. All she has to do is figure out what the nature of the Door is and why it's preventing her from returning home the way she usually would. This asshole seems to assume she has the same limitations as all the other mortals do, and she's poised and ready to show him why making that assumption is the wrong move.

Gren is a hundred percent unimpressed by this broad pulling a weapon on him. Sure, whatever, you got a sword, he's got an inherent magical protection against bladed weapons that makes it so that he can't get cut. If she wants to see what happens when that immovable object gets hit by an unstoppable force, like, okay. Waste of everybody's time.

"Whatever, lady. Put your fuckin' dick away."

He's zero percent in the mood for this pissing contest.

"I don't give a shit what you do. Take my advice or don't, it ain't any skin off my ass."
abyssalarcana: (mountains suspended over mountains)

[personal profile] abyssalarcana 2018-05-29 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The bluntness of his retort surprises her enough to get a short laugh instead of something more negative. No, the sword is staying out, but especially now that he's backing off his previous insistent tone, she's willing to let herself be amused, just a little.

"I don't take advice from people who I have never spoken to before and who insist on being so patronizing," she replies. "At least give me a name so I know who thinks he's so important that he can hand out unwanted advice."
