Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[oh Caedra, someday. If anyone will be interested, it's this guy.

But that question requires a little work to answer easily. Law hunts around for a stick or something, comes up fairly empty, and settles for a pointy rock, crouching down and drawing in the soft earth - a vertical line, a long horizontal line, a few other parallel to it]

There's only one continent, a narrow strip of land that circles the world. The Grand Line is an ocean that runs along the equator, bordered by calm belts. In this ocean, the currents and weather are wildly unpredictable. Many islands are uninhabited and dangerous. On top of that, pirates tend to congregate there, sailing to find the end of the Line. [he looks up and dares to smirk] It's a lot of fun, really.

[She watches, paying close attention. An ocean world like this that isn't the elemental plane of water strikes her as unusual, but maybe she had just assumed incorrectly that most material planes had an amount of land similar to the one she is most familiar with.

It's good to know that this one would be tricky to take, if they ever get the opportunity. Not as bad as the Sea of Floating Stones, but challenging.

She grins back at his smirk, though, eager for stories of adventure.]

Does it have a name, your world? And - oh, I don't know. I just want to hear about some of the things you've done, and seen. As a pirate I imagine you must have come across some impressive treasures in your time, hm?

Not that we call it. [AS FAR AS WE KNOW ahaha...] I've been a pirate for a long time, I've seen things. The most impressive treasure, well...I haven't gotten to it yet. Someday.

You've seen "things". Could you be more vague?

[He's so fun to tease sometimes. He doesn't exactly make it difficult, either. Most of the time he's at least good enough to answer her questions, though, which is nice. She has so many, and she grows bored so quickly with the people who give her nothing in return.]

But fine, then - tell me about this treasure.

[yeah well, 16 years of adventures is a lot to go through to find the highlights.]

Have I mentioned it before? The One Piece, the legendary treasure of the former Pirate King? [he told someone recently, was it her?]

[It's fair. She's totally into the talk of treasure, anyway. It's not like money holds any value to her now, but it's still appealing on some level, as someone who spent so much of her mortal life in complete poverty. Money isn't power quite the way some people think, but it never hurts.]

No, not to me. Or - if you mentioned it in passing, it wasn't something you said much about. What is it?

[must've been Atem or someone, then. Right, story time.]

Nearly twenty-five years ago, the Pirate King was finally captured by the Marines and set to be executed. Some say he let himself be caught, to let his crew escape. On the execution platform, he made a declaration: that he left his treasure, that he called the One Piece, at the end of the Grand Line, on the final island Raftel. He said, 'if you want it, go get it,' and then they killed him.

Any pirate who says they're not searching for it is either a liar or a coward, afraid to risk their life.

Twenty-five years, and still nobody has found it? Surely his crew must have wanted it for themselves, wouldn't they be the most likely to know where to look?

[It must kill him, to be stuck here unable to be hunting for it. Yes, she's heard that when people go back, they seem to return to the same time they left from, but that's only the case for those who have then returned again. Far more came and then left again forever. What if it's different for them?

It's why she writes, daily. She doesn't believe everyone will always go back to the same time and place and she doesn't believe that nobody goes home with memories of this place, either.]

Oh, they know. I've rubbed elbows with Dark King Silvers Rayleigh, his first mate. But for some reason those that are still alive don't seem to care much. Who knows? Maybe they're all as cracked as Roger and think watching the rookies go after it is more fun.

[if it were Luffy, yeah, maybe this adventure wouldn't make up for not searching for the One Piece, but Law? He's been slowly biding his time for years, this is just another case.]

Or maybe it's not something you'll want at all, once it's found.

[In which case, she can't blame the crew for watching from afar. In fact it strikes her as absolutely brilliant, to either have nothing hidden at all, or to hide something horrifying and dangerous as one last fuck you to the world before meeting his end.]

[aha, smart Caedra, hitting on a key point he's always considered]

Or it could be something those small fries wouldn't know what to do with if they found it, while a pirate with the cunning and strength to recognize what they have could destroy the world with it.

That's my theory, at least. An ancient weapon, the key to bringing down the government, something like that.

...Wow. A theory, or a hope?

[Because that is an incredibly specific theory, she thinks - removed of any context it seems like a bit of a leap to go from hidden treasure to world-destroying weapon. But you go on there, Law, take down all the governments you want. She seems pleased by the idea at least, as she nudges him playfully with her elbow.]

Maybe a little bit of both.

[he takes the ribbing in stride, smirking subtly. Some people want to be King of the Pirates for weird reasons, but he'd make that title mean something.]

Whatever it is, I have confirmation that it's real. It's just a matter of fighting my way to the end of the Line and seizing it before anyone else does.

Well, then.

[Law, you are a rare breed. But perhaps she only knew the wrong humans, when she lived as one. Leave it to pirates to eschew the rules of society, to embrace freedom and destruction in all of their glory.]

I hope you find it first. And I hope it's everything you want it to be.

That's kind of you. [turning his head to give her a look] Are you sure you're feeling all right?

[IT'S A JOKE. He tries, once in a while.]

Oh no, do I need an examination?

[The situation is dire, doctor, and now the joke's on you, as she places a hand to her forehead as if checking her temperature. She's doing a poor job of holding back her own grin, though.]

Keep that up and I might have to insist on a...thorough exam.

[You tall cheating bastard, Law, hiding like that. She can barely make out much of his face at all, between the feathers and the hat, but she snickers at the innuendo.]

Hmm, it has been a little while since my last checkup.

[Apparently more than a few days is just too many days.]

[at least she gets a good solid peek of an eye directed at her from between cap and collar]

I was right. You are insatiable.

This place might keep me busy for a while. But a message can't hurt, to see if I'm available.

[Yeah, she had a feeling he might not be able to or want to keep up with her. She'll probably find others. And at least it's nothing like those terrible first couple months of nothing at all, here.

She seems to accept his statement, though it's accompanied by a slight shake of her head as if disappointed, and she leans lightly against him.]

You don't look very busy right now.

[he doesn't, does he?]

Maybe not, but I was considering getting some fish and seeing which ones are the most edible. It's getting late, and I'm hungry. [glancing up at the pall of clouds, even if it gets drizzle on his face] I bet there's real night on this world.

Oh, right, food. You have to do that sometimes.

[Mortals and their needs. Talk about lame.]

Well, I'll be around and very available if you have time afterward. Otherwise, I suppose you'll get to look forward to lots of messages on your phone, hm?

Yeah, we do. [so sue him] Message me, at the very least we'll have some fun. I'll tell you all about whatever I'm doing.

[fair warning that he's not...well they don't have phone sex in his world because those poor den-den mushi, can you even imagine? But maybe he can be induced to try...]

[She doesn't pick up on what he's trying to imply. Even the telepathic link she and Amamot usually share isn't used that way often. She's always preferred talking in person with anyone. So she looks up at him quizzically.]

I don't understand why that would be fun. Besides, if you're so busy that you can't see me, how could you have time to write messages telling me what you're doing?
