Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

It is. Highgarden was landlocked and all King's Landing had was the foul Blackwater Bay, so this is my first real time close to the ocean. And, for me? I think I will be far happier when there are boats available, so that we can travel between islands.

It is rather nice to walk by the ocean, is it not? Nice, when the wind blows in our hair. I even like the rain.

We are soon going to have boats on this island, at least! I'm building two of them. Would you be interested in a trip to East Island, as soon as i'm finished with the first boat? Maglor is there.

The rain I could do without--Highgarden rains are warm, not cold--but the breeze is pleasant.

I guess the rain is inevitable with an island environment in this latitude and with these sea currents. It seems rather northern. Fortunately, not northern enough for icebergs!

Icebergs! I've only heard rumors of the things. Supposedly, they can be spotted at one of the Night's Watch posts, Eastwatch-by-the-Sea.

I shall! And of course I'll have to get back to Sansa, Jon, and Daenerys, eventually. I wonder where our house ended up? And your house?

I've seen them and sailed among them. That was an experience, I must say! If your world had them, then you must have heard how dangerous they can be. Icebergs and ice floes. Magnificent, but very deadly to a ship astray or to people who are trying to cross the ice on foot.

I've been worried about Sansa and I guess I'd better worry about Jon and Daenerys as well! Delight's Housing ended up on South Island, as far as I can tell from the responses to Henry's network call to the Guard. So, your house and mine should both be there. After we visit Maglor on East Island, we'd better sail around to the south and check up on our housemates.

You have? What was it like? And . . . to be honest, we had little news from the North. The last we'd heard, Jon Snow had overthrown the hated Boltons and reestablished the Starks. Then, I died.

Have you met Jon and Daenerys? I've been wanting to throw a party so that they can get to know all of you better, but I wanted to talk to Sansa about it first and hear her ideas. That sounds like a good idea. With any luck, everyone else was home when the shift happened.

My family and a large part of our clan, the Noldor, crossed the frozen strait between two continents, Aman and Middle-earth. I'll tell you that story sometime, but the short version is that my father and brothers and I and our followers took the ships across the sea, dodging icebergs, sometimes having to cut our way through rafts of ice floes, and weathering a few storms. The waves were immense when the wind was really blowing. We already knew about cold, turbulent seas because our home in Aman was fairly far north, but up by the strait? -- well, that was an education in seafaring under extreme conditions!

[ He wonders if Maglor has told her any of that story. If he has, then it is to her credit as a compassionate person that she still cares for them. ]

I messaged Jon and Daenerys not long ago and spoke with both of them through their inboxes. I also met Daenerys in person, during that horrible event in which so many people lost senses, body parts, or other necessary faculties.

It would be lovely to have that party, though. I'll bet Sansa would go for that. I'd like to meet Jon in person and Daenerys now that she has her memory back. Yes, with luck, everybody else was home and are now safe on South Island.

It seems as though you'll get to put those lessons into practice once more. Those waters do not look calm or inviting.

Oh, good! I'm so glad to hear it. Though, I'm sorry you had to meet Daenerys under such poor circumstances.

Let us hope so. It would be cruelty if we were scattered amongst the islands.

[ It seems they both have things to regret. And the luck to be surrounded by people who are willing to have compassion for their mistakes, even the most horrible ones. Curufin is grateful for that. ]

Daenerys is a courageous woman. Even experiencing such a loss, she was able to maintain calm and an intention to deal with the problem. I'm pleased to have met her under any circumstances!

Even if we are scattered, we'll still be able to gather together again, since we will soon be ready to set sail. Oh, speaking of sails. . . do you think you could make one? I'll give you the dimensions. I'm hoping you have enough fabric in your Sewing shop.

She is. She will be a fine Queen of Westeros, once Cersei is cast down where she belongs.

I hope I do, too! Such a task will not be the work of a single day and I'll have to go back to Tranquility for more fabric once my reserves are exhausted.

If you don't have enough fabric, I'd say let's search those few shops that ended up on North Island along with the other buildings. I haven't looked inside them yet, but if we're lucky, some of them might contain bedding -- blankets or sheets. Or maybe some heavier materials like cotton canvas, which would be ideal.

If you have to ask Tranquility, you might ask if he'd be willing to let more than one person pay for the materials. It would go faster that way, and I'd certainly be willing to help.

As do I. Westeros has been in utter chaos since the death of Eddard Stark. No one can bring back who was lost--unless they come here--but at least the dead will be able to rest in peace once Daenerys takes the throne.

It would be ideal which is exactly why the so-called gods won't see fit to provide it to us. I'll try my luck with bedding. Perhaps we'll be more fortunate there.

I wish Daenerys well, then, if she ever returns to Westeros. May it be so, that she is able to bring that unfortunate land peace and prosperity again. You and Sansa cannot return there, but I hope that the thought of wrongs made right again can bring you peace.

Thanks for the help on the boating project! No sailboat is going anywhere without a sail. And I'd prefer we didn't have to row the whole distance!

When she returns to Westeros. She was on her way there when she was taken here. She brought with her a legion of Unsullied along with Dothraki horselords, both said to be ruthless opponents. Cersei will have no chance against them, especially after the forces of House Tyrell, Dorne, and Yara Greyjoy join against her. [she looks confused] But Sansa is not . . . returning to Westeros? But she must! She is the Lady of Winterfell. There are no other Starks left.

No, I could certainly not manage the task. But I'll be right back. I need to check the shops for supplies.

When, then! Daenerys seems a determined sort, so I guess if anybody gets to go home, she undoubtedly will. And it sounds as though she'll have the allies to win her war. [ He suddenly realizes he's confused her. ] No, I'm wrong about that, I guess. She has suffered much, but she is determined. I only wish that I could go too, to see her war and yours through to its end.

I'll see you later, then. It'll be good to know whether there is enough material for that sail now. If not, I guess I'll make a smaller boat, a rowboat, and go and check out the other islands for cloth resources.

She will. I only wish I could be there to see it. To see Cersei Lannister brought low, once and for all. [she smiles at his words] If Sorrow wasn't lying, perhaps you could go?

I won't be long. The shops aren't far, I'll return in less than half an hour.

All right. I'll wait for you here, and I promise I won't use the time to build a rowboat and row to South Island and back. [ Grin. ]

she returns after approximately half an hour, bearing an armload of linens. she drops the pile at his feet]

[ He uses the time to continue fishing off the cliff, and he fills his fish basket. This will make dinner for both of them, and anybody else who happens to need a square meal tonight.

When Margaery returns, she is carrying a huge heap of fabric! He stoops down and runs the linens through his hands, taking their measure and admiring their quality. They are heavy and thick, and will make a fine sail. ]

Absolutely! I'll make a sketch today and write in the dimensions. Thank you, Margaery! We are going to have one fine sailboat!

How large should I make the sail?

Let's go for fourteen by eighteen feet. If you sew it together in say, eight vertical sections, that ought to work. It'll make the sail stronger, too, to have so many vertical seams.
