Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

You know, I actually don't know if he does or not. It never came up. It's less strange than you might think, though. I know he moved far from home when he was fairly young and made some profitable investments. Maybe there's bad blood of some sort.

I know. I'd hate it if I didn't get to benefit, but what can I say. I paid my dues when I was younger so maybe I've earned it. And he's such a dear sweet man.

[If... if you call a towering cloven-hoofed warlord of pure evil incarnate from the depths of the Abyss sweet anyway. She certainly thinks so.]

So you're saying there might be a multimillionaire with a huge cock waiting for me out there? And, what was your paying-your-dues like?

Maybe. The dues-paying - I'd rather not get into it. Rough childhood. I'm glad to be past it.

Indeed, so here's to being older and hotter. And maybe you'll find someone who catches your eye here, who knows. Won't last, but at least it's fun in the meantime.

[Spoken from experience, not that she wants to settle for just one. Honestly, 'Alice' here is kind of cute. Not her usual type but she's had to get flexible.]

That's what I'm looking for, having some fun. I don't feel up to anything serious right now. Just got out of a four year relationship.

Right. Time to live the good life, then. Is there anything you're looking for? I might be able to make some recommendations.

[That's right, this place makes her bored enough to pretend to play matchmaker. Unfortunately too many of these people are either taken (and not very flexible about it either) or just outright uninterested.]

Absolutely. And let's see. . . tall, dark-haired, muscular. Doesn't have to be the smartest guy here, just has to be good for a good time.

That's a type that's in high demand around here. Age preference? And it has to be a guy?

[Look she knows one and she's not offering him up, he already struggles to keep up with her demands. She thinks back to a few network posts she spied at some point - one or two of those very thirsty people who eagerly pulled off clothing for ratings might still be around.]

I did see a man - a soldier, I think - a month or so ago on the network who seemed interested in getting laid and not much else. Had an unusual name on his comments. L-something? Last name Tucker. He's the first who comes to mind. There's also a fellow named Damien who might do. He's a bit nice for my tastes.

[The chances are good this woman isn't as picky about her options as Caedra is, she figures. Well, that, and the fear and distrust turns most of them away.]

They say that the best way of getting over a man is by fucking somebody else. [she laughs again, this time ruefully] It doesn't work. I've tried it. But it can't hurt? So, yeah, if you can set something up for me, that would be great.

If I see any of them I'll direct them your way, but you'll do just as well to watch for their names. Or message them directly, there's a, mm, list of sorts in the phone. Though so far from what I've seen with your kind, perhaps they won't appreciate that without meeting you first.

[And even then they might get all bashful and flee when you try to be direct with them. Who knew humans were so shy?]

There is? [Jane is from 2004, before the debut of the iPhone, so this phone confuses her a little. she manages to find the contact list and scrolls through it. there are pictures to go with the names and she grins when she tracks down the men Caedra mentioned] I've met these guys before. They'd definitely work.

And "your kind?" What, are you an alien? [said with a teasing smile]

[Good. Look, she helped someone! She's able to do things that people like! With the benefit being that people think she's trustworthy or something. It helps, if this one is going to cooperate with her plans for entertainment, to have what looks like a friendship from some angles.

But she tilts her head just a little at the tease, smiling back.]

Well, I'm not human, am I.

[It's not like she tries to hide it or she'd spend more time changing her eyes to match theirs. But that's a lot of effort.]

[*applause* and while Jane is typically cynical about people, she's trapped here in what seems like an impossible situation, so she's a little more willing to trust. and yes, she's willing to cooperate with her entertainment plans, but it's mostly for herself. she's addicted to the thrill she gets when she makes complete strangers want her]

No. The eyes kind of give it away. What's your world like?

Hmm, that's a harder question to answer than you might think. I was born on a planet named Arneth, but I have spent a lot of time in other worlds as well. Where I reside now is very close to the heart of the multiverse, and I split my time between a great palace made of iron, and a charming little cottage with a greenhouse and garden.

[She'll just leave out all the inconvenient details about the raging chaos and violence and demons and slaves and so on. But sure, if she's from another planet, technically that makes her an alien?]

The multiverse. Is that where we're all from? Different planets, different versions of the same planet?

And both homes sound great. Who hasn't wanted to live in a palace? And when you grow tired of that, you've got your other place.

[those are details best omitted, yes. at least for now. perhaps in time, she can be told the truth, but it will take a while]

Thank you, yes, I'm quite fond of where I have found myself to be now. And yes - that's right. The multiverse refers to all of the worlds, and all of the various planes of existence that border those worlds. The center, of course, is where it all began. It's extremely vast, full of infinite possibilities. And that makes it very hard to describe.

[Look, she doesn't mind explaining cosmology to mortals. She likes showing off how much more she knows than they do and enjoys watching them grapple with the vastness of it all once they realize their own insignificance.]

Wow. That's unreal. That not only are there other planets, there are other versions of other planets, all of them with people just--doing their thing and not having a clue.

[well, she hasn't exactly realized her own insignificance, more like she's marveling at how vast time and space really are. Jane came from a completely normal Earth with no supernatural beings or things at all, so she's rather amazed by all of the supernatural beings and things that seem to populate the rest of the multiverse]

That's - well, maybe so! But what you're thinking of, we call those alternate material planes. They're not part of the center. Anyway, it's a big subject and the people who make it their careers to study it tend to go mad.

[And yet they do it anyway. Mortals, what even are you. Some of them, like the elves, do live to be quite old and can probably manage to comprehend some of that madness but unless they're careful about where they go, it claims them all eventually. As it should.]

Ohh. So it's only the individual planets that make up the center. And because they just can't get how huge everything is and their brains turn into scrambled eggs because of it?

[mortals are stubborn creatures. stubborn and determined. surely Caedra's picked up that much in her time here?]

No no, you have it backwards. Here.

[Caedra holds out her hand and speaks a short incantation, and an image shimmers to life above her palm. It's a complex wheel of an image, with spokes connecting from one place to another, but across the middle horizontally is a row of circles. The whole thing is encased in a larger circle, and above it is an image of a mountain. Below, everything seems to drain into a river, or the roots of a large tree, and connected to those branching pathways are other diagrams. One is an upside down triangle divided into nine tiers; another is a long corkscrew that looks posed to engulf all else - or perhaps it is the mouth from which everything came.]

Inside the big circle are the material worlds. That circle is the astral plane. The ones outside are the outer planes, and the center is this spiral one down here. And this is just a fraction of how much there really is.
