Event Log: The Beach Episode

Who: Everyone!
What: The event log for the transition to our new planet!
Where: The city, which has now been fragmented onto four separate islands.
When: May 27th-June 10th
Warnings: Surf's up! If by 'surf', you mean separation from your friends, weird sea creatures, and cold rainfall.

The sun and the sand and a drink in your hand- well, it all sounded pretty nice when you voted for the island planet, but ultimately what you're getting is a bit less glamorous.

The transition takes place instantaneously, with very little noteworthy shakeup, though those of you who are particularly in-tune with the supernatural may feel a bit dizzied or nauseated by the sudden movement. And that's exactly what it is: for those of you who are outside, the change is fairly noticeable, as in the span of a single blink, what used to be miles of desert is now rocky ocean. The city is simply in one place one moment, and then somewhere entirely new a second later.

And that somewhere new is exciting! The islands have plenty of landscape to explore and weather conditions to adjust to, fish to catch, and- wait, how do you get to the other islands? What if your friends or your home or the bar is on these other islands? Enjoy having to figure out who is where and how you're going to get by with only a small fraction of the city to work off of- hopefully those boats will come sooner rather than later...

[ Real or imagined, but the silver siren call still sounds for Maglor. Perhaps it always will. Or perhaps one day Osse will get fed up and smack some sense into him ]

I will. But what of Tyelpe? Where do you think he has gone?

[ Ossë had better!!! XD ]

[ Sigh. ] It would be just like Tyelpe to have gone off exploring. And it might just not occur to him to give us a call. You know how he is. Normally he's so thoughtful and the first thing he thinks of is how others might feel, bur once in a while he gets absorbed in what he's doing and then he's just as oblivious as you or I when we're absorbed.

[ And let him be all right, Maglor's dear nephew and Curufin's dear son! ]

[ The mun is sure he will ]

Aye that does seem like him - like all of us, at times. Perhaps I will call Nelyo and you can call Telpe?

[ Ossë, just drop that damned shiny rock into the deepest part of the Mariana Trench and have done with it already! ]

All of us, yes. [ A little bit of a laugh. ] All right, I'll call Tyelpe and you call Nelyo.

[ He probably kicked it straight to Ulmo all ewwww ]

I still remember us all at one stage or another running late to meals!

[ And we wonder what Ulmo did with it??? ]

Don't we always run late to something or other? [ Grin ]

[ Hopefully, put it in a locked box somewhere ]

I certainly remember having to drag you from the forges, Curvo!

[ Oh no! Locked boxes can be stolen! ]

And I remember having to drag you from the music room, Kano. [ Still smiling. ]

[ From one of the deep trenches in the sea? ]

Aye well. [ Maglor laughs back ]

We all had our obssessions, eh?

[ Absolutely! All you need is a diving suit and a set of lock-picks. Or else a ship and a crane. XD ]

We all had our obsessions, indeed! We wouldn't have been ourselves if we had not. [ He grins at his memories. ]

[ Maglor thinks a crane would need more rope than currently exists XD ]

So we did! Although I think we were all grateful that you grew out of the need to test if gems were candy or not by gumming them.

[ Perhaps, but are there any limits to Elvish ingenuity? And if an Elf can consider how to steal a lockbox from the depths of the ocean, may not there be others in Arda who might be thinking of it also? Oh, dread! ]

[ But he has to laugh at Maglor's memory of little Curvo's explorations. ] I remember. Father's gems were so beautiful, so colorful, and so interestingly faceted that I just had to experience them by popping them into my mouth. Did you know that the tongue is the most sensitive and spatially-oriented organ of touch, surpassing even the fingers? I was making a touch-and-taste map of each of those jewels!

Good thing I concluded they were not candy! [ Little Elves are too smart to swallow things that might be dangerous to their digestive tracts, fortunately. ]

[bythewaves]

[ YOU LEAVE THAT SILMARIL IN THAT OCEAN CURVO OR SO HELP HIM XD ]

Ah, really? I think you are making that up because you just liked putting things in your mouth. [ Maglor teases ]

[ Curvo says the only thing he wants with that wretched Silmaril is to smash it with a sledge-hammer! ]

Of course I did. Those jewels were tasty and interesting. Oh, but the explanation is as much fun as the experience! [ Grin. ]

[ Fair ]

I just bet it is. [ Maglor says dryly ] I suppose I am grateful Telpe wasn't quite as bad!

[ And he doesn't trust Ulmo or Ossë to do it. ]

[ Oooh, that dryness again! XD ]

It's true, my darling son didn't munch or chew on anywhere near as many non-edible objects as I did. Why was he so well-behaved? [ He's laughing. ]

[ Maglor isn't entirely certain that they even CAN. or would, if they could. Aule, maybe. But not the Sea ]

Clearly he must have inherited it from his mother!

[ Okay, let's give it to Aulë! ]

Clearly. [ Chuckle ] Although as you know, my dear wife Sulriel was a weaver like our grandmother. Who knows what yarns and fabrics she might have chewed on in her childhood when she was a baby weaver!

[ Works for Maglor! ]

I am sure your lovely lady wife was a model of good behaviour!

[ "Aulë, we have a small problem. Do you think you could, um. . . ?" ]

She was, except she married me!

[ Maglor raises an eyebrow at him ]

Yes I can see how marrying my disreputable brother made cracks in her good behaviour!

[ Curufin smiles back. ]

But I thought she did pretty well with the situation, considering.

Besides, I made sure that if anybody was going to cast any aspersions, they cast them at me, not her.

[ This is true. If he even heard a whisper of disapproval being directed at Sulriel for her choice of a mate, Curufin tracked down the whisperer and tossed that person over the garden wall. ]

I think she rather thought so.

[ Maglor says fondly ]

It grieved us all when you drifted apart.

[so_dark_a_road]

She was an admirable person, in every way.

[ He smiles at Maglor, appreciating that his brother had liked Sulriel and had had high hopes for the relationship. Maglor had wanted his little brother to be happy. ]

Only if you mean drifting in the sense of icebergs in a frozen sea. We crashed into one another over that matter of the Oath. And that was our demise.

It was the demise of most of us, I think. [ Maglor says sadly ]

We were so young then. So naive still.
