The islands moving hadn't exactly been the highlight of Evangeline's day. Then again, she'd gotten so used to how Hadriel had been that she hadn't expected what had happened. It was something that was starting to bug her a bit. Luckily, she was pretty good at protecting herself. Or, well, she'd of been good with that if it hadn't been raining. If she hadn't of been nearly drenched to the bone and chilled. It reminded her of back home. Reminded her of things that she didn't want to think about.

For the moment, she's walking around the island and taking in everything around her. If she happens to run into new people then that was fine. Hopefully, there wasn't anything out there that she needed to defend herself against. It wouldn't be pretty if that was the case.

Evangeline doesn't move her hands, for what seems like the longest time, before she finally does and gives him a smile.

"You can't be with me all day and all night, Aric. You'll get tired of me eventually."

He has met his wife, right? She's just as stubborn. She planned to make friends and she's sure he'll have... friends or acquaintances. Something of that nature.

"Not until I kill you, Sieva," Aric says but there's less conviction in the ominous words than there were months ago.

"Of course, not until you kill me. So that means you should teach me to protect myself. If you don't teach me then I'll find someone who will."

Surely, he doesn't want someone else teaching his wife how to fight. Does he? There's no telling what dangers will come of that and it might hinder his chance to kill her.

"You would not put someone in danger like that," Aric says lowly.

Although, whether he's agreeing out loud or not she's already won the argument.

The sad thing was, Aric knew her too well. Evangeline was one to protect those around her and not get them hurt or killed. There was only a few people that she'd killed and she hadn't enjoyed it. Not one damn bit.

"Then it's settled then. Now, will it make you happy if we go back inside?" She's willing to compromise, a little. Besides, she wants to take a warm shower and then curl up to relax.

"Yes," Aric said and waits first for her to start moving as if he's going to make sure she doesn't make some wild dash for it even though it's not likely anymore with her and he knows that. But old habits die hard.

Of course his answer to the question would be that. She knows that he wants her inside and dry. Inside where he can keep an eye on her, perhaps even make sure that her abilities still worked. With her husband? There was really no telling.

She does, however, raise a brow when he waits before shaking her head and starting back towards their home. "I'm not going anywhere, Aric."

"We'll see," Aric murmurs and follows her back toward their home. There's a weariness to everything, to resisting everything that she always calls to in him but he also doesn't know how to give into it either. There's only so many times you can be bitten by the same snake.

She may not want to put anyone else in danger, but she would protect herself. It's something that she's determined to learn whether her husband wants her to or not. After all, without her powers she's a normal girl. Or as normal as they come, anyway. It's something that would run through her mind until he taught her.

As for those two words, she gives a smile," You'll see, Aric. I'm not like the girl that you used to know. I'm here to stay." Only death would take her from him and surely that would never happen. Right?

In Aric's opinion, there would be nothing that was normal about Evangeline even without her powers but that is not something he would actually say to her or anyone else for that matter.

Aric's jaw tightened slightly at her assurances and well, it's not that she'd done anything to give him worry but still -- the past is a weight and he has a lot of past to remember. He's not sure what about her now makes him want to believe in her.

"It's not the first time you've tried to make me believe you are trustworthy, Sieva."

But there's a weariness to it now.

Evangeline knows that she's not helpless without her abilities. However, she also knows that her powers are a major part of herself. A part of her wants to stop trying to reassure him that she wasn't that same person. Not the girl that he knew. Somehow, she couldn't convince herself to do that. As long as they were in the same place then she'd continue to try and convince him.

"I'm not that girl, Aric. Not the one that you knew before," she tells him. "Only way I'm going anywhere is if this place makes me and if it tries, I will fight tooth and nail to stay with you."

Aric studies the back of her head since he's now walking behind her as they make their way back to their home.

"Why?" he asks. No empress that he's ever met would ever do that why should this one?

A part of her wants to tell him to walk beside her or in front of her. That she didn't trust him to be behind her the way he was now. However, there was that part of her that did trust him. Had been trusting him for some time now.

"I told you, Aric, that things between us have changed. So, I will fight to stay with you."

[deathstouch]

If he was going to harm her it certainly wouldn't be from behind her like this. He'd want her to see it coming and to know it was him who had done it but he didn't have any intentions, yet. The intention of at some point is still there motivating his actions in the background in some ways.

"I am still not sure why I am supposed to believe you, Empress."
