Well, here you are. You've awoken on the ground of a large colosseum, with a cloudy sky above you - oh, and it might be sprinkling a little. It sure seems to drizzle a lot here, though it might take you a few days to figure that out. After the days it'll take you to get adjust to being in another world at all, of course. Welcome to Hadriel!
Feel free to walk around the colosseum a bit to try and get your bearings, but try not to trip over any rocks. They, uh, aren't rocks. This month, the Door has pulled in Lava Crabs and Rock Crabs. These confusing little things look just like rocks when they're in their shells, and they're content to stay that way... until you get close, and they come rushing out at you with their claws out, all ready to snip snip snip. Their hard shells make it difficult to hurt them, though you could always try to knock it off their back - or flip them over and attack their tender underbelly.
That's not the only thing you might trip over, either. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of super cool and fashionable umbrellas. So if that drizzling rain is starting to annoy you, grab one of those and you'll be dry as dust in no time!
Once you think things are safe, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers June 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Tapping her glass, her steps slow down to a halt when she is near Hella's booth, eyes on the stage and lights.
Seriously, thank god for Alphys for bringing those in.
"It gets better the drunker they get," Rey comments out loud. This woman seems new, though it's hard to tell when she'd spent the last couple weeks isolated on the south island. On the plus side, that experience gave her time to produce new batches of liquor for thirsty patrons, and so she's drinking her most recent whiskey.
no subject
(But that would be inaccurate, wouldn't it? The others were always there. They just kept to their own little corners of the world.)
But she offers a smile to the other woman and replies, "I've rarely seen someone's skills in anything improve with drink. And," over her beer, she adds before taking a sip, "I don't mean never."
Seriously, she's pretty sure Red Jack just does not get drunk, he's just always the way he is.

"It's less about the skill and more the quality of entertainment."
Thecorner of Rey's mouth pulls into a grin as she takes a drink of whiskey.
no subject
Though that was less about the skill involved and more about the pattern. She's certain he had to practice to get that one right, and is darkly curious about what the recitals looked like.
But Lem isn't here, and she hasn't traveled with him for some time. Not since Nacre. She tries not to dwell too much on that thought, trying to keep the mood light. She takes a swig of her beer.
no subject
"Well, never said that it had to be good to be quality -- or entertainment, for that matter. A few drinks in, and some of them almost start sounding good."
Alcohol is magic like that.
no subject
"I wouldn't want to drink too much and wind up joining in." Her reputation as broody and bloodthirsty may never recover. That, and Hella doesn't quite enjoy a total loss of control. She doesn't want to get into any barfights today, thanks.
no subject
"Suit yourself. Take it that means you're up next?" Rey jabs. This lady doesn't seem entirely devoid of a sense of humor.
no subject
"And follow up that?" she says, looking witheringly at whatever poor fool is embarrassing themself up on stage right now. "I'd be doing the audience a disservice."
And Hella Varal simply does not sing. That's not a thing she does. When she overdrinks, she's more likely to get angry than perform.

She pauses then, giving the woman another glance over.
"New here? Always see different faces come in every month." For obvious reasons to most, but not so obvious for the recent arrivals.
no subject
"Oh, we're on a schedule, are we?" she asks, giving away her status as one of those recent arrivals. "Hella Varal."
no subject
"You could call it that. It's something that usually happens once every month, you get used to it." Though there was that one period where multiple people just appeared and most of them left. The ones that remained... Rey tries not to think about it much. "Name's Rey."
Rey Nolastname.
no subject
The point is, Hella doesn't ask any questions now either. She accepts the singular name at face value with a nod.
"Nice to meet you, Rey," she says with another sip. "This place reminds me of my homeland, sort of. An island nation. Though I haven't been back in some time. I... travel a lot."
no subject
She's still not used to the fact that she's spent that much time in Hadriel. At times it seems longer, and others are shorter.
"And wouldn't recommend getting comfortable with the island scene. Chances are we're going to be jumping to a new location soon enough."
no subject
"By the magic of our captors?" she asks, tentatively. A muscle tenses in her jaw.
no subject
"Yeah, that's pretty much what it is. Don't come from a place where magic is a real thing, and it's still weird as fuck to get used to."
no subject
"Where I'm from, magic is a curse on the land. It's rare. But those that use it... Pattern magic is still in common use by the Archivists, but that's different. There is no good use of true magic. It's dangerous."
Fantasmo proved that to the rest of them when he turned out to be a construct. Ever since the trouble in Rosemerrow, Hella's stance on magic has doubled down.
Magic comes in many forms in Hieron; there is divine magic of the gods, and pattern magic or semiotics, and there's whatever Fero is, but it's the true magic of the university's remains that cause Hella the most unease. And it feels much the same as the Door's power to transport people into this place -- the whole thing reminds her strongly of Arrell's pocket universes. Pocket universes and false gods, as Caedra explained.
"I'd feel blessed to be from a place that hasn't been touched by it," is how she finishes her thought, eyes traveling away from her focus on Rey, a little awkward in their retreat.
