Intro Log: Snip Snip

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for June
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: June 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, crabby crabs, bumbershoots

Well, here you are. You've awoken on the ground of a large colosseum, with a cloudy sky above you - oh, and it might be sprinkling a little. It sure seems to drizzle a lot here, though it might take you a few days to figure that out. After the days it'll take you to get adjust to being in another world at all, of course. Welcome to Hadriel!

Feel free to walk around the colosseum a bit to try and get your bearings, but try not to trip over any rocks. They, uh, aren't rocks. This month, the Door has pulled in Lava Crabs and Rock Crabs. These confusing little things look just like rocks when they're in their shells, and they're content to stay that way... until you get close, and they come rushing out at you with their claws out, all ready to snip snip snip. Their hard shells make it difficult to hurt them, though you could always try to knock it off their back - or flip them over and attack their tender underbelly.

That's not the only thing you might trip over, either. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of super cool and fashionable umbrellas. So if that drizzling rain is starting to annoy you, grab one of those and you'll be dry as dust in no time!

Once you think things are safe, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers June 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

( the colosseum )
( there were no mirrors. that part was instantly obvious, not even requiring the thought that vanessa had given it. wherever she was was in ruins. it didn't feel a dream, not some thought simply shoved into her mind )

Show yourself.

( she's on the defensive, turning, searching for the vampire or his master. vanessa wasn't alone, she could see the others around her but they weren't the target of her speech. no, that creature would know she was looking for it.

vanessa takes a step, still looking, feeling her foot catching as she searches. it pulls her focus, finding just a stone at her feet. except, focused now on that stone, she's quick to realise that it isn't a stone at all. the claws move quickly and it scutters towards her. vanessa takes a step back, trying to move away, but it has yet to relent. in her steps, vanessa has ended up disturbing another )

( the city )
( she's quick to get herself out of the colosseum, finding tipping the crabs over got them away, and eager to move herself away from the place. if the vampires or these gods have brought her here vanessa wants no part in this, and regardless of how much she has been told currently believes none of it. she's being hunted, separated, imprisoned. it's placed vanessa highly defensive and a little irrational.

her walk through the streets has no goal in mind other than to either find an exit or somewhere to stop, to think. the latter comes first as vanessa finds herself at the water's edge, finally stopping her hasty walk, just staring out at the sea )

Where am I?

( her words are a whisper, and even though there's a name to this place that vanessa has been given she doesn't see how she could suddenly be here. how had this happened? why had this happened? would it ever end? )

( closed | keyleth )
( a teleportation circle? a portal. part of it sounded like magic, something that luficer or the nightcomes may use, but at the same time the concept of it sounded very foreign to her. if there were apparently other planes, with this place, this hadriel not being the same place that vanessa was from then-- )

Where are you from then, if not from here?

( clearly keyleth was not from here not from somewhere familiar to vanessa. that much seemed apparent first in her appearance, she was not of the demimonde that vanessa knew, but she knew something. perhaps something more than what her knowledge here had granted her )

Clinic Mingle!

[personal profile] dedikated 2018-06-10 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
The Clinic is a long standing institution in Hadriel, and not too far from the Colosseum, on the western island. Quickly constructed and somewhat bland signs point the way to the building, marking it as the place to come and be treated for whatever injuries you sustained from this month's chaos.

Though currently well-staffed, the nature of the city - now more than ever with the city divided among four islands - means that the organisation will never turn away a pair of helping hands, whether you're well acquainted with medicine or just want to learn. Or even if you just feel like finding them equipment from the shops. There's enough disasters in the city in any given month to warrant the extra supplies - though the change in location probably means you don't need that factor 50 sunscreen.

Whatever the case may be here, you're welcome to come talk to people. Just don't touch anything without washing your hands first.

Oh! Did you sail / teleport / swim to another island first? Don't worry, the clinic has you covered there too. Though there are no fixed bases on the other islands, staff are available to help if need be. Just specify where you are.

( open mingle for all clinic shenanigans. You know how it works, just post a top level below! Ask for help, ask to help, chat to the staff... please just note if you're not on the west island! )

Colosseum

As soon as word comes that another batch of new arrivals has made their way through the Door, Caedra gathers up a notebook and pen, stuffs them in her bag, and heads to the Colosseum.

Finally, it's time to try and put some plans into motion. This city needs entertainment and she has dragged her feet too long on its organization. Logistics are absolutely not her strong point, but this fighting arena idea of hers won't go anywhere if she doesn't at least try. Maybe the first could be a battle royale rather than a tournament - it would cut down on work and leave her with quite the spectacle to enjoy.

No matter what form it takes, she's here to get names on paper and spread the word. Are you fighting a crab and winning? Fighting and losing? Running away? New or old? It doesn't seem to matter, as she's likely to trot right up to you and ask:

"Hi! Would you like to participate in Hadriel's first-ever fighting ring? I'm taking signups!"

South Island

Caedra had come originally in search of a boat. South Island seems to be the least-populated, and so she had reasoned that here, an unclaimed sailing vessel might be found. She has no need of one, but something about the very notion of sailing around the coast is enticing. She can see why Malthus loved his so much; why he treasured that sextant he barely knew how to use. Her grandson would have made a fine sailor, and perhaps someday he still will.

But she gets distracted easily. As the sun sets, she pauses at the beach and watches the fading light dance over the waves. Abruptly, she transforms her sword into a long black glaive and takes to a sandy spot on the beach, and with the butt end of the weapon she begins to write in the sand. The lettering is unfamiliar to anyone who cannot read Abyssal, and some of the words quickly vanish as the tide washes them away, but she doesn't seem to mind.

COLOSSEUM

[There shouldn't be rain. It hasn't rained since winter came to Hieron.

Hella almost thinks she might be back in Ordenna. Captured for her treason, to be made an example of. But that doesn't track, either.

A rock animates and comes barreling towards her and she crushes it under her boot, stomping down and twisting. Something's wrong here. But she still has her blade and her armor, so she hasn't been captured necessarily. She notices her pack is still here, as well... with her kettle? Sure, okay.

Part of her, now, is horrified to think she might have been taken by Arrell. Transported away, to a pocket universe or bubble or whatever they're calling it this week. She sighs and kicks over a moving stone almost as an afterthought, stabbing her sword into its crablike belly.

Idly, she grabs an apparently-abandoned umbrella and opens it up, and... can't help but chuckle at the design. It's not wholly necessary now, but who's to say the drizzling won't pick up later?
]

WILDCARD

[Hella can also be found exploring the west island, looking through shops, sitting broodily on the seaside cliffs, or picking through the armory. Feel free to run into her anywhere on the island, or plot with me at [plurk.com profile] erlking!]

Jeyne Westerling | OTA

[personal profile] widow_of_the_crag 2018-06-10 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The Coliseum

[There were no soldiers to wake Jeyne, only the steady patter of rain as it drizzled from the sky and seeped into her flowing curls. The guard that had surrounded her before were missing, as was her mother and instead of the familiar halls of Riverrun, she was in an arena, or what she assumed was one. There was the smell of the sea, but it seemed distant to her, almost more of a memory than an actual presence. She was more dazed than surprised or afraid. Her sudden appearance in a new location should be disturbing, but there was little she felt of late. The Crag or here, what difference did it really make?

There were others, stumbling up as well, many disoriented and confused. All of them seemed as out of place as she was, but far more engaged. It was only with a mental push that she forced her feet to move and her consciousness to register what was happening. As she wandered the grounds, she found a number of rocks and strange items. Some were seized by others and opened to show images. There was even one that looked like a sword, while it might not be real, she held firm to it all the same.

The ground was unsteady to her and far too often, her skirts (which she had shredded before leaving Riverrun) tangled under her feet. It was while she was navigating past some rocks that it happened again, causing her to trip against one, only to feel something swipe out at her leg. She gave a shriek, smacking at the rock with the umbrella.]

The rock has teeth!

The City

[This place had been explained to her, but it still hadn't fully settled in her head. The idea of the gods pulling others from different realms seemed like something her Septa might say, but only if she were deep in her cups. Despite being warned of the dangers, Jeyne roamed the city, trying to shake her disorientation and unease, hoping to familiarize herself with this new prison. There were no Lannisters, at least, but were monsters and cruel gods any better?

When she finally reached the water's edge, she stopped to stare across the landscape. It seemed cold and foreboding, no different than the Crag at times. While the ocean could be beautiful, it was far harsher on her father's lands.]

It looks like home.

[That was the wonder of it. This might be another realm, but it seemed that she had been brought to some version of her home.]

Closed to Margaery

[Continued from HERE]

No, there are always new forms of betrayal to be exposed to.

[Though after her family, there was little left that she could imagine shocking her. While she knew that the Tyrells sided with the Lannisters, it was hard to associate them completely in her head with what happened. There were only three names that rang firm when she thought of the Red Wedding. 'Lannister', 'Frey', 'Westerling'.]

You were not so fortunate in your goodmother. Lady Stark was patient with me, though I don't think she thought very highly of me. I was not prepared for the burdens that Stark men carry...

-You speak of Tommen? You were to marry Joffery, weren't you? That was why your family chose his forces?

[She didn't seem convinced and somehow that rankled Jeyne more. Having lost Robb in life, all she had left was memory and name. She couldn't let that be taken, not by anyone.]

Did you see Lady Brienne again? Lady Stark had sent her with the Kingslayer to King's Landing. I know men were sent after them, but I never heard what came of that.

Closed to Kelson

[Continued from HERE]

That sounds like a story. [But who was she to judge? This entire place sounded like a story. She wished her life was one rather than reality.] They look like humans but aren't humans? They have magic while humans do not?

[She wasn't certain she had that right.]

Everything has a name. Battles, keeps, swords. Why not this? It gives the bards something to sing about and serve as a moral tale for other would be rebels. It becomes less real, instead it haunts the memories of those who were there and know it's no song. When I die, it becomes nothing more than a dark name for some horrid event that happened years ago.

No, I cannot change others. I should know my family though. I should have seen what my mother truly was, but didn't.

Speakeasy mingle.

[personal profile] circumitus 2018-06-10 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
A couple days after the new fish wake up at the Colosseum, the people of Hadriel might come to notice the lights and invitations posted on the north, east, and west islands to the Speakeasy, located on the south side of the island city. Now that the arrivals have had a few days, those who wish to unwind (or seek the local gossip/answers from seasoned locals) can come to the right place.

The lounge area is stocked with various food and refreshments -- some alcoholic, some not. In addition to the jukebox, thousands of new tunes play from the sound system at the stage, as multicolored lights flash over a glowing dancefloor of many hues. While the Speakeasy is generally a calm scene, tonight it is much louder and vibrant for those with a little more energy. Otherwise, there are plenty of relaxing booths (now with some charming kitty matchboxes to use if you want to light some table lamps for scenery) to sit and chill in with your food and drink and meet new people. While you shouldn't expect a bar menu of burgers and onion rings (sad, I know), it should be enough to snack on.

You can dance, or cry while singing your favorite love song about how your wife left you and all you have is your Chevy pickup on stage during open mic until people point and laugh at your pain. Enjoy a drink, where the bar has a combination of self-serve liquors and other refreshments, as well as a bartender to make you some special cocktail with a stronger kick. There's also beer, wine, and even mead if you fancy.

For a more quiet evening, the Game Room holds a variety of recreational activities to keep you engaged. Between the casino games, a variety of board games such as checkers, chess, and Battleship, and even an arcade machine with many two player options and several games, you should have your evening cut out for you.

Isn't it nice to have an actual night cycle to burn away now?

[ooc: This is the monthly Welcome Dance Night! Consider this an open mingle thread for both old and new folks alike. Tag in, tag out, hit up your friends or rivals or meet new people. Assume that this is set around the 12th.]

Colosseum.

"O mangiar questa minestra o saltar questa finestra," the Italian slipped past in a murmur as his eyes sharply took in the details of the colosseum he found himself in. It wasn't the Colosseum, with a capital-C. This place wasn't Rome. He hadn't been in Italy in three years after all and so why should he find himself there suddenly? Had Will managed an escape for them which he couldn't recall?

No, no, this wasn't Rome. That line of reasoning was a waste of time. There was no other colosseum he knew of however and his busy mind was having a difficult time making the shift from the places he'd drawn and committed to memory to this new reality he found himself in.

Hannibal was ever good at making due with the cards life had dealt him though. While he couldn't understand how, where, or why he was here the fact was that he was here, Rome or not, and he had to figure out a next move. Managing life's surprises could be interesting but Hannibal had always preferred to load the deck himself. He stepped out into the drizzling rain and picked up the first umbrella he came across, which had a ridiculous giant screen print of a cat on it.

The corners of his mouth turned down at the tastelessness of the thing before he walked as nonchalantly as he could around the outer circle of the colosseum. Hannibal came across one of the rocks and lightly sniffed the air. There was nothing familiar, not even ozone or the dirt smelled familiar, which he found perhaps the most disconcerting of all so far.

Mountain Boulder? Plum Creek? Hannibal couldn't place it off-hand and reached down to touch it. To his uncomfortable surprise the boulder lifted at an angle, and a large snapping claw came out and just about took his whole hand off. As he stumbled backward, the button on his blazer popped off which would, later, irritate him greatly. For the moment he regained his balance and stabbed ineffectively with the umbrella towards the rock crab which easily snapped the umbrella in two.

"And me without a proper weapon," he mused. "Shame, you would likely be delicious in a sauté!"

Colosseum
[Goku looked around the colosseum, scratching a finger against his forehead. Being confused was nothing new, but this was more confusing than normal. All he could see were rocks and umbrellas. He picked up the closest umbrella to him and opened it up.]

Urk!

[Why did it have to be a monkey? He threw it away towards one of the rocks. The rock which was now heading towards him with claws!]

Eh?! Nyoi Bo!

[A red staff appeared in his hands. He swung low, catching the rock crab under its head and sending it flying. That was weird. Were all of the rocks weird crab things? He could only think of one way to find out. He squatted down next to a nearby rock and poked it, then jumped back when it sprang to life. Another quick swing and it was in orbit like its friend. That's two...He moved on to the next one and the next continuing this pattern.

Sorry if he sends any angry airborne crabs your direction.

West Island

Ahhh, I'm hungry.

[Goku walked down the streets of the West island, hands behind his head and face the perfect look of dejection. He was so focused on his stomach that he wasn't looking where he was going before bumping into someone.]

Oh sorry!

[Always one to follow a path laid before her, especially if her hopes of finally, finally reaching the tower to the south of Rosemerrow have been fully dashed -- and they seem to be, from what she's experienced of this archipelago town so far -- Hella climbs cliffsides and sails oceans to follow the lights wherever they go.

Now, she's sitting at the Speakeasy, not one to dance or sing, but definitely partial to drink. A nearly 6 foot tall, very muscular woman sits at one of the booths to herself, with a glass of the first beer she set her eyes on. She's not entirely keeping to herself, joining in on laughter when a dancer or singer get in over their heads, so it's clear she's not just looking for a quiet drink and would, in fact, not mind company.

She's got enough to dwell on as it is. She hopes to relax for now, before whatever storm is on the horizon.

( Since the return of her vision and the subsequent transfer to the islands, Kate has watched the Colosseum with interest. Always wandering around - easily explained when there were so few places to go on the western island - and kicking rocks, eyes glowing white with power.

There really appears to be no pattern to the door, some days its power is impossible to see, others it nearly blinds her. That said, she expects it to flare dizzyingly bright today, wears sunglasses despite the drizzle and crouches down on the floor, ignoring the rocks in favour of running her fingers along the ground. If it can be seen through the ground, maybe she can latch onto it with her power without having to open the earth.

... It's a theory. And not a massively successful one. One that does nothing more than to put her in the perfect position for the crab that comes whizzing towards her, and - because concentrating on the earth does not mean forgetting to listen to your surroundings - Kate reacts with flawless timing, throwing herself to the floor before looking for the source of the near-concussion.

One second he's in front of the food table piling as much as he can on his plate. The next he's carrying the overflowing plate up to the game room, and checking out the arcade in between bites. He also runs up to the bar to ask the bartender for suggestions for drinks or games.

The Coliseum is no longer an easy walk for Jon, but the upside of the relocation of the entire city to the little archipelago is that the weather is friendly to proper clothing -- and proper armor. All of his attire is heavy in the rain, but all of it also helps to keep the rain off, and makes him less worried about what the Door may bring.

Today it seems to have brought in -- a young girl, a woman grown, somewhere around Sansa's age, or the age that Arya would be now. Her style of dress looks very familiar to him, more so than that of most new arrivals, but her face is new. He can't tell if she's Westerosi, or someone like Kelson, someone who seems like they might be but is from somewhere else entirely.

She's hitting a rock with something that looks like a sword, but isn't one, and the rock seems to be interested in retaliating. It's no rock at all, but some kind of crab.

Jon strides up and gives it a hearty kick with the toe of his boot, sending it spinning and sprawling. He turns to the girl, frowning slightly, prepared to usher her out somewhere safer.

"My lady. This way."

Another month full of new faces. Much like at the Colosseum, Caedra regularly turns up at the Speakeasy to see who has come in that she may have missed in the chaos of battling whatever creatures came through the Door.

This time, she's continuing to scope out anyone who might want to join the fighting ring, and as the night wears on she becomes more and more likely to approach someone out of the blue and ask if they're interested. But she's also hoping she can flag down Rey at some point, to show her what she had shown Laura, now that she knows who is responsible for all of the brewing.

With some fancy cocktail in hand this time, Caedra also makes her way to the Game Room just to see who's playing the casino games - and especially who's winning. She doesn't know these games at all, but if you look like you do? She will absolutely sidle up and ask about it.

Between these activities she can either be found dancing, or may just join you if you have an open seat at your table. She's never here to lurk alone in a corner booth - but if you are, surprise! You might find yourself not so alone after all.

[The last thing Mewtwo remembers, was being surrounded by a warm, healing light. Pokemon who had every reason to be afraid of her, gathered around her in a cave and tending to her injuries. She remembers them faintly, drifting in and out of unconsciousness.

And now she was here. Laying on a stone floor in a place she doesn't recognize at all.]

Where... am I...?

She hasn't quite noticed the rumbling of rock crabs nearby yet.]

[Mewtwo still hasn't figured out much about what this place is and how she got her. While she hasn't gotten far in exploring, she did manage to scavenge and umbrella with a cat picture on it. She... doesn't really know what it is, or how to use it even. She fumbles around with it with her big alien-looking fingers until she finds a button...

And the umbrella pops open.

She makes a startled noise, lifts up her hand and crushes the umbrella with psychic energy.

Geez, Mewtwo. What'd that umbrella do to you?]

As per her usual routine, Cashmere is stationed near the Colosseum rather than actual inside it. She's not interested in whatever weird mutts tumble out (crabs??) and isn't it fair that all the newbies get the same introduction to their new home.

Cashmere looks surprised by the question, and fixes Caedra with a Look. "A fighting ring? Why would I want to do that?"

It's not that she thinks she won't win. In fact, she's sure she'd have a good chance of winning. However, she can't imagine what the benefits would be. There's no lifetime of riches to be had, and no speciality mansions either. Just the same crap that everyone else in Hadriel already has. All guts, no glory.

"Because it's something to do. A way to train your skills against opponents a bit more intelligent than the vermin the Door spits out at us. And it's fun!"

And what were the other reasons Alice had come up with? She can't recall. Doesn't really care. Entertainment is her main rationale, but if they want to use it as a chance to train and improve for some potential fight against the Null, that's fine too. And like Law had said, it gives the rest of them a chance to see what the others can do. Probably useful if they ever need to collaborate, or alternatively to defend themselves.

Whoever this woman is, she doesn't look much like a fighter, admittedly, but Caedra knows better than to judge solely on appearance. Power comes in all sorts of forms.

In where's what? Sorry, Hella doesn't know what a phone is, she is miles away from understanding where she is right now, but apparently it's a place called Hadriel and it's never had a fighting ring before.

She can see why she's being approached about it, honestly. She's armed with a blade she just finished pulling out of a rock crab's underbelly, and clothed in scalemail. She's also very large and imposing in stature, which makes the studying look she gives Caedra some intimidation points, if only she was up against someone who could be intimidated so easily.

The black eyes are suspicious. They certainly don't look inviting. But the woman's demeanor is chipper, and she seems... friendly enough? If only Hadrian were here to sense her intent.

"What's the prize?" Getting right to the point. No "but how did I get here" from Hella.

Not one to dance or sing either, Rey is tending to a drink of her own as she wanders the lights and party scene. Just because it's not her thing doesn't mean that she's going to deprive the opportunity for others to actually relax somewhere... There are only so many places to hang out here as it is.

Tapping her glass, her steps slow down to a halt when she is near Hella's booth, eyes on the stage and lights.

Seriously, thank god for Alphys for bringing those in.

"It gets better the drunker they get," Rey comments out loud. This woman seems new, though it's hard to tell when she'd spent the last couple weeks isolated on the south island. On the plus side, that experience gave her time to produce new batches of liquor for thirsty patrons, and so she's drinking her most recent whiskey.

"My skills are already sharp. And you have a weird idea of fun." It's rare that she meets someone who might actually find the Hunger Games to be amusing. She seems to have found one of those delightful people.

But curiosity gets the best of her. "What's the winner get?"

It's not often Hella sees a woman of similar stature to herself who isn't Ordennan or an orc, as well as looking as if she's seen just as much battle. Hella, to her credit, is in good spirits for someone that's recently found herself trapped in an entirely different world by new gods. Always new gods. She far preferred when it was just Hieron and when Hieron just had the one.

(But that would be inaccurate, wouldn't it? The others were always there. They just kept to their own little corners of the world.)

But she offers a smile to the other woman and replies, "I've rarely seen someone's skills in anything improve with drink. And," over her beer, she adds before taking a sip, "I don't mean never."

Seriously, she's pretty sure Red Jack just does not get drunk, he's just always the way he is.

While Rey might not exactly be of equal height to someone like Hella, she is at least far from petite. She also doesn't make any effort to hide the scars and roughness of her appearance, and it's not often even for her to find someone similar. It's almost refreshing as it is unnerving.

"It's less about the skill and more the quality of entertainment."

Thecorner of Rey's mouth pulls into a grin as she takes a drink of whiskey.
