Intro Log: Snip Snip

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for June
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: June 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, crabby crabs, bumbershoots

Well, here you are. You've awoken on the ground of a large colosseum, with a cloudy sky above you - oh, and it might be sprinkling a little. It sure seems to drizzle a lot here, though it might take you a few days to figure that out. After the days it'll take you to get adjust to being in another world at all, of course. Welcome to Hadriel!

Feel free to walk around the colosseum a bit to try and get your bearings, but try not to trip over any rocks. They, uh, aren't rocks. This month, the Door has pulled in Lava Crabs and Rock Crabs. These confusing little things look just like rocks when they're in their shells, and they're content to stay that way... until you get close, and they come rushing out at you with their claws out, all ready to snip snip snip. Their hard shells make it difficult to hurt them, though you could always try to knock it off their back - or flip them over and attack their tender underbelly.

That's not the only thing you might trip over, either. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of super cool and fashionable umbrellas. So if that drizzling rain is starting to annoy you, grab one of those and you'll be dry as dust in no time!

Once you think things are safe, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

Is a good point.

It's such a good point that Percy feels almost stupid for not considering it, and the only reason it's almost is due to that that time that it took three people, bloodshed, and a Bigby's Hand to open a door.

Overcomplicated, thy name is Vox Machina. He gives a rock crab that has tried to scuttle up to his feet while he's distracted a swift kick and it does, indeed, flip over on its back and just flail its legs impotently.

Now he can feel completely stupid, though his defensiveness cannot be tamed.] I just got here. When suddenly on a strange plane, it's generally safer to assume everything around me is going to kill me.

[He grins, sauntering up and giving Percy a little pat on the cheek.]

Aww, it's okay, we were all new once.

[Don't forget he blasted them with fire when he entered this scene, Percy, he is the opposite of blameless here. This is also the man whose spent the majority of the last 10 days getting around in a levitating chair he's sailing like a boat. He's just the worst.]

The stuff the Door brings in is cheap shit. You haven't seen the worst of it, uh, by a long shot. But hey, day one, level one, you'll get there.

[It’s a testament to the touchy-feely nature of his found family that he neither flinches or reacts to that cheek pat. He just internally debates whether or not he’s found someone to rival Vax and Vex. ]

And I assume there’s no one who can just plane shift out? Because that seems like far too simple a solution, and yet I have to ask.

[Someones one has to just assume everyone is an idiot and then be pleasantly surprised. It’s the burden of genius.]

[Seeing as he flustered Vex on their first meeting, he's plenty confident he would come out on top of such a contest. But he rolls his eyes at the question, not because he dislikes that Percy's asking, but that he wishes it was that easy.]

Nnnnnot even a little possible. We're off from every plane. Tucked into an inescapeable pocket hole somewhere. Trrrust me, I've tried.

[Or well, Kravitz has. But seeing as he jumps planes for a living and has a device to directly do so, he has confidence if it was possible to jump out of here, he'd have figured it out. Especially since they've tried in tandem before.]

Liches up top don't even know how to leave. It's all on the Door.

The Door. [Percy repeats it with such droll sarcasm that the air within a certain radius around him spontaneously begin to smell of tea and biscuits. One doesn't get more fantasy British than a disdainful Whitestonian when faced with his mortal enemy.

Doors.]

There's a lot to unpack with what you just said, but is that what they really call it?

Yyyyup. Sucks, right? The dudes up top aren't super creative.

[Then again, it's not like anyone's ever not known what was being said.]

It's some big magic artifact around here somewhere. Not that a lot of people are lookin' anymore.

Of course not, because if I were trapped on another plane with a powerful magical artifact, the first thing I would do is just give up on finding it.

[He just laughs.]

I mean, I've been here more than a year, my man. Priority list goes to what's directly trying to kill me, and uh, not a lotta downtime between those things t-b-h. I'm sure someone's workin' on it.

[Yes, he just spelled those out.]

More important are getting the liches up top to stop doing dumb shit. Then we have all the time in the world to hit the escape.

I don't think that's how liches work. Doing dumb shit is precisely how they got to be liches in the first place.

[Is he wrong though? He pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs, pushing his glasses up further onto his forehead in doing so.]

Hey, not all liches suck. I know a coupla good ones. But these guys? Total scrubs. Point is, dealin' with them is way more important, seeing as the Door doesn't try to fuck with us every few weeks.

[Does he sound like he's speaking nonsense? Yeah, mostly. Unfortunately, it's All True.]

[Percy just... stares.]

Right. Well. How much alcohol does one need before that makes perfect sense?

[He just bursts into laughter.]

If that's what you need to accept the truth, my dude, however much you want. Thankfully, it's free around here, so that's sweet. Rey'll fix you up.

If this is the sort of place one just gets stuck in, then all you can drink alcohol better be the very least of the accommodating factors.

[HIS NOBLE ASS DEMANDS TO BE PAMPERED.]

Eeh, depends on what you want. If you're lookin' for people to do stuff for you, you'll probably have to get some favors or trade for what you can find or make. You got a skill?

[He eyes him up and down.]

I mean, if you're just tryin'a get your bearings, maybe I have a few things you could do for me. Help you find your way around.

[Percy deeply feels like he's about to be played here.] I have many, but none of them add up to "errand boy," so if you're asking me to pick up a few items from the market for you, I'm going to have to respectfully decline.

[He chuckles, before putting on a bad imitation of Percy's voice, still too much in Taako's high register to be believable.]

"Respectfully delcine". Man, alright fancy boy. But you're right, it was super that.

[And he just continues on without even acknowledging that one further--]

Just look around. Find a place to crash. Any not locked door is free basically. You'll figure it out. Also try not to die by crab or shark or whatever.

[The lineface persists. That was terrible. You're terrible.]

You wanna find the welcome wagon, go poke around. You'll find somethin'. Just try not to wander into the ocean and die. I mean, you'll come back to life, but it sucks.

[He'd rather not even talk about dying and coming back to life after what's happened just recently, but dear god, Taako, what.]

Why would I wander into the ocean- no, never mind. It's best I don't know. [And he just walks on past, holding out a hand in an awkward wave.] Good day...

[He clicks his tongue and gives Percy a finger gun as he saunters off.]
