What: The event log for the Love Yourself event
Where: All over the city
When: June 13th-June 16th
Warnings: Love yourself! No, not like that
One morning, you wake up and decide that it's high time you love yourself. Whether you weren't loving yourself at all before, or if you just weren't loving yourself enough, it's time to ramp that up to All You, All The Time. After all, nobody else is going to help you get ahead as much as you will, now that you're taking some time off to really focus on yourself.
Screw chores, screw people who are going to hold you back- all you feel is an unbridled sense of narcissism and the idea that you really do deserve it. Whether that means that you're spending the week searching for instant gratification, cutting all your ties that have been dragging you down, or focusing on your passion project that you've been shelving for other responsibilities, it's bound to be good for you and your mental health.
After all, what's life worth living for if it's not worth living for yourself?► This log covers June 13th-June 16th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If someone else's self-love is too detrimental to your own, please let us know here.
Seel OTA + 1 Closed
Seel was shopping, that much was obvious. He needed a new wardrobe. What was also fairly obvious was that he had completely redone his hair. Gone were the light brown, neatly arranged hair. Instead, it was dyed a multitude of different colors, flashes of black and red and yellow, green and blue, braids and dreads interspersing. He had some adornments already, but he was looking for more.
He also clearly needed new clothes. Why was he dressed like this again? It wasn't him. Not really. It was who he had become.
What if he didn't want to be that person anymore?
Seel held up a a piece of tasseled leather. A vest maybe.
"What do you think?" Don't give him the wrong answer.
West Island: Home (Closed to Swift)
The bathroom looked like Seel murdered someone in it, as well as a a fairy, a unicorn and a smurf. It was an array of colors, just like Seel's new hair, all reds and blacks and yellows, with bits of blues and greens. He'd finished braiding and dreading it, adding bits of things he'd found in the shops, beads and feathers and rags and tassels. Why had he stopped doing this? Oh right, Thiede. Immanion. Respectability. Which was all bullshit because fucking Tharmifex had pink streaks.
Looking vaguely up at the ceiling, Seel gestured with his middle finger, just in case Thiede was watching on prime time.
"Fuck you."
Seel in actuality was lying on the couch sipping a glass of sheh, new clothes arrayed in front of him, assortments of things that didn't look like they could possibly go together. Bits of leather with tassels that looked like they came out of a western, items with fur, ripped clothing, or perhaps, clothing Seel purposefully destroyed in the name of art.
He held something up, contemplating it with another piece.
It was really a shame Flick wasn't around to clean up that bathroom. Seel certainly wasn't doing it.
Seeeeeeeeeeeel
In short, Swift was going a little crazy. He'd taken to going on walks lately, but there were only so many times he could wander the one island before he jumped off and tried to swim. Of course that meant leaving Seel unsupervised, but he hadn't been too much of a menace lately. Small victories were still victories.
Eventually he made his way back to the house, distracted and a little damp, but no worse for wear, really. When he opened the door, though, he had a moment of panic seeing a har with colorful hair lying on his couch before he identified him as Seel. Logically, he'd known Seel had looked different before he'd known him, he just hadn't really considered just how different that was.
And that wasn't even mentioning the clothes on the floor.
"Seel? What is all this?"
Re: Seeeeeeeeeeeel
When Swift opened the door, Seel watched as it took him a few seconds to recognize him. He swirled the sheh in his glass and took another sip, contemplating the piece in front of him before looking up.
"What does it look like?"
Seel was going to take that as 'I hate it what did you do to your hair?'

When he opened his eyes again it didn't make a whole lot more sense than it had when he walked in. This sorry of thing would never have gone over had they been in Forever and while they weren't under Thiede's fist here, Swift was still having a hard time reconciling what he was seeing with the Seel he knew.
"I don't know what it looks like, Seel, that's why I asked."
no subject
"I dyed my hair. When I was talking to Atem a few weeks ago, I realized I'd lost myself over the years. No one's fault." It was Thiede, he was lying. Or maybe it was his own. Maybe you really could sell your soul. "Maybe I just want to get a little of it back. What do you think?"
Because he wasn't changing it.
no subject
Swift stared for a moment, taking in Seel's new hair and the clothes he'd laid out. It looked, he thought he shouldn't tell Seel, almost Varrish. Which made sense, really, if they truly did have their roots in the Uigenna. Seel had been one of them once.
He took a few steps forward, then, careful not to step on anything and risk Seel's anger, reaching out a hand to touch Seel's hair, softly.
"It's...different. It might take some getting used to. But I think I like it."

Shopping
He wasn't alone in the store, but he didn't make conversation until he was spoken to. His eyes ran over the man, taking in the colorful hair, and then glancing just behind him to ascertain whether he had a sinful or innocent soul. "It's certainly flashy." Sunai monsters were unable to lie, but Leo had learned to tell a version of the truth without telling the whole thing.
Re: Shopping
As for Seel's soul, well, he certainly had a past and it showed in his shadow. He certainly was no innocent, whether or not he'd striven to atone and make the world a better place than when he was brought into it. The scars were still there. They made him who he was.
"What's the point in hiding?" Seel once believed in telling the truth, that stripping away delusion was the only way to find strength and perfection. Over the years, he'd lost himself, but maybe he was starting to pick up the pieces again.
no subject
"I suppose that's one way to think of it. To each their own." He shrugs, moving another shirt aside to look at the one beneath it. If he wanted to dress in such a fashion, then let him.
no subject
"Thanks for your approval," he said dryly. Finally, Seel had enough. "Are you looking for a good lay or are you going to roast me over a spit? Which one is it? If neither, stop staring at me."
no subject
Thankfully for both of them, he doesn't have any instruments on him, otherwise he'd get right down to charming Seel's mind so that he could steal his soul. He needs to find something like a flute or harmonica he can keep on him at all times. That way he can be prepared for just such a moment.

pls dont ask a killjoy for fashion advice
His fingers stray dangerously close, but ultimately fall short when Seel moves and asks his opinion on- something. Ghoul blinks stupidly, arm still outstretched when he glances down at the tasseled-thing. A vest? He likes vests. He's always wearing one, though it's nothing as fashion-forward as Seel's. Still... This one could be better. "S'okay." Ghoul hums thoughtfully, dropping his arm so he can drag his fingers through the leather tassels. "S'kinda plain. Needs somethin' else." Where are the pins and patches? The paint stains? It needs broken in, for sure.
Re: pls dont ask a killjoy for fashion advice
He held the piece out and ultimatly threw it over his shoulder and rustled around for a bag or something he could put stuff in.
"Of course it needs something else." He didn't plan on wearing it alone. It was an accent piece. He picked up something with fur this time. That could go nicely. Seel approved.
no subject
Which might not be for very long after all. He perks up when he catches sight of the newest find- something fluffy, which sets him to balancing on his toes and leaning forward in order to peek around Seel. It's not his fault he's a short, nosy little shit, okay. "Hey, wait, is there more fuzzy stuff? I know somebody that fuckin' loves fuzzy stuff."
no subject
At the moment, he positively rolled his eyes, and poked around, trying to strangle the urge to tell the human to go look for himself with those oh so curious eyes and grabbed something fuzzy that wasn't quite too his liking and tossed it toward him. And then gave in.
"You have eyes, don't you? Look for yourself."
no subject
It helps that he's been distracted by A Fuzzy Thing- he snatches his hands out of his pockets in order to catch it, and goes about inspecting it by petting it gently. Because of course he does... "Yeah, well, you make a better door than you do window. Y'know?" So move over, Seel! Or don't, and just throw more things at him. He's actually okay with that arrangement. "If there's any furry jackets in there, I call dibs."

lol shopping
Maglor looks... lighter. That ever-present elven gleam is just a bit brighter, the shadows that normally dog his steps absent. There's peace, maybe, in his eyes.

Shopping <3
"It's hideous," she replies flatly. "What material is that even supposed to be?" It must be a skin of some sort, but who knows what their kidnappers think is preferable for clothing.
squeee
"It's a large animal. Herbivore. Tasty. Makes good burgers. And nice vests. And rugs."
And because he was in a petty mood suddenly, Seel added. "You have crappy fashion taste too."
As for the woman, well, her eyes were kind of weird. But who the fuck was he to judge? Obviously she wasn't human, humans did not have that kind of agmara or energy signature. Or Wraeththu.
no subject
"I just couldn't tell from here. Could have been deerhide, or dretch. Or human, wouldn't that be funny. As for fashion? Please. You look like you were dressed by a pauper lord's jester." Which is a concept she's just now made up, but it seems appropriate.
no subject
"Oh, good. That makes it easier. What's a dretch?" He wrinkled his nose as the idea of human hide but he wouldn't put it past these gods to actually have something in here like that. Seel made a note to be careful, and grabbed another piece of clothing. A black skirt. Not exactly his style. At all. But maybe Swift would like it. And maybe he wouldn't have a meltdown when he finally saw his hair.
"Didn't your mother ever teach you not to be an ass?" After all, his mother never did. His mother just called the cops.
