The morning of April 15th in Hadriel is cheerful, with artificial light streaming through your window. Your blankets are warm, jabberjays are shrieking, and you're probably going to experience a murder attempt today.
Maybe it'll be from a stranger, maybe it'll be from a friend, but the bottom line is that everybody is after somebody and nobody is safe (...okay, twelve people are safe, but that's beside the point). Time will only tell when you'll be overcome by that murderous rage and try to kill someone else. The best thing you can probably do at this point is stay calm, keep your head high, and try not to die for the next eight days.
Helpfully, Rage will have restocked her armory for the event, for those of you have yet to arm themselves. Additionally, for a limited time only, the armory will be stocked with bear traps, tripwire (in both 'general wire' and 'barbed wire' flavor), and voice recorders. Use all of them, use none of them, just get on out there and kill each other!
Oh, and one last thing...► This log covers April 15th-23rd.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Did your assassin catch up to you? Please remember to hit up our death post!

She's doing okay on that count, at least. So that -- that's something.
Maketh gives Chris what she hopes is a reassuring bop to the arm. She can't quite manage talking right now, but she isn't dying. Part of her knows that now.]
no subject
She will. I've used them on myself, this is how they tend to go.
[But she'll need to rest regardless. Dr. Zed's healing kits are good for quickly dealing with injuries, sometimes things as nasty as Maketh's wounds, even, but they're no substitute for actual medical attention. The next step is getting them both out of here: the (presumably) dead woman on the ground a few feet away's beyond help. Not that Lilith would've made an effort, (assuming) that she was the one who'd caused the trouble in the first place.]
I'll get Maketh out of here once it's safe to move her. [Which, hopefully, will be in just a bit.] Are you okay, Chris?
no subject
This is when he'd normally let himself just kind of zone out and have a moment of self-indulgent panic, but taking care of Maketh had only been the first goal. There's another, which is trying to help Nick, and so he's making an attempt to get to his feet when Lilith asks him if he's okay.]
Yeah. Fine.
[It's obviously a lie--he's really shaken--but aside from his knee he isn't actually hurt. It's not like he hasn't been dealing with his bad knee ever since he got here, so it really isn't that important, and--
He takes one step towards Nick and ends up back on the floor again, the pain lancing through his knee strong enough to make him nauseous and he decides it's better to let out a string of frustrated curses rather than start crying, although the latter option is the more appealing one.]
Goddamn fucking son of a...

[Why are these people so stubborn? Still gentle, but firm enough to ensure Maketh stays down, Lilith moves her back into a more relaxed position.]
Stop moving. Both of you.
[Lilith hurries to her feet again-- at least they have one person between the three of them who can walk?-- and is at Chris' side, helping him turn over so he's seated and not putting pressure on his, now obviously, weak knee.]
Guess I'm taking you, too. Wait for me, and I swear, don't try to walk on that again.
no subject
N-No, Lilith, it's not... N-Nick isn't dead.
[So they need to help her too; it isn't her fault this happened, it was the event, and it's a miracle that shooting her didn't kill her and he owes her at the very least not to leave her there.]
no subject
Now, what are they going to do about Nick?] Lilith...can you take her...take her to the clinic?
[It's a short term solution, but Nick needs medical attention as well, and Maketh has a feeling that Chris won't let them look at his knee until they deal with this first.]
no subject
She casts an incredulous look at Chris and the earnest expression on his face, then back at Maketh, then, once again, at Chris.]
Really?
[Does she have to??? SHE ALMOST KILLED THEM.
Lilith sighs in resignation-- she's thinking the same as Maketh; soft-hearted thing that he is, Chris won't budge until Nick's safe-- and gives in.] Fine. I'll be back. [But she's not gonna like it. She leaves Chris leaning against the closest wall she can get him to and heads over to deal with Nick.]
no subject
It's a great relief when Lilith agrees, and he murmurs a thank you when she leave him to go over to Nick. Everything's okay. Nick's going to get help, and Maketh's going to be fine. Those were the only two real goals he had, so he's done; it's okay for him to just slump back against the wall and duck his head, wrapping his arms around his stomach and trying to keep it together.]

[It doesn't hurt to talk as much as it had a few minutes ago, but Maketh's voice is still reedy and weak. She'll need to rest for a while. Give her body a chance to recover. It feels like she can use all her fingers on her bad side, but she doesn't have full range of motion with that arm.
It's better than being dead, at least.
She tries to smile for Chris, in the meantime.] It's...it's going to be fine.
no subject
[Chris looks over toward Maketh when she speaks and makes an attempt at a smile in return.]
I-I think I'm supposed to be telling you that. Y-You're really um... Feeling a little better?
[Comparatively, anyway.]
no subject
[Maketh nods with a wince. It hurts, but she can breathe through it if she tries.] I'll live. Thank you. For trying to stop her.
no subject
I don't... I didn't do a very good job.
[He's really sorry she got hurt, especially so seriously. He'd hoped he could just talk Nick down, but...]

It's gotta be Rage. [she interjects, having just caught the last bit of Maketh's sentence.] I tried to kill a man I'd never met earlier, and another tried to kill me. [And one of them had gone after Henry in the thick of all of it. Not that she'd caught very much of him, before he'd (fortunately) managed to sneak away-- her primary concern had been incinerating Kanda.
Lilith can't bring both of them at the same time, so she's got to multitask this. She's going behind the bar while talking, rifling through the freezers and ultimately coming back around with a bundle of ice cubes wrapped in plastic and bar cloths.
She kneels gingerly beside Chris, wincing a little as a cut on her thigh stretches-- she's got to power through it, though, for his sake and Maketh's. With the makeshift ice pack precariously balanced on Chris' knee, she gets to work on binding it up, at least, until he can get it properly splinted back at the clinic.]
Here I thought I was just having a bad day.
no subject
Chris is great about staying calm and keeping focused in the midst of danger, even when hurt, but when there's no immediate threat he's... Sort of a baby about it, mostly because he doesn't get hurt very often. Although to be fair his knee really is seriously damaged, so the wincing and slightly undignified squeak he gives when Lilith gently places the ice pack on it might be understandable. He holds still with great effort when she begins wrapping it, digging his fingers into the fabric of his shirt and closing his eyes, too distracted by trying not to be sick to manage a response.
But yeah, it's all a little worse than a bad day, though he does like the idea of the understatement of the whole thing.]
no subject
There's nothing for it now.
She's glad that Lilith is here, anyway.] You'll be okay, Chris.
no subject
[Not a lie. Chris is at least holding it together, which is more than she could say for a lot of other people she's seen with broken kneecaps. (LIlith has... broken her share of kneecaps, to be perfectly honest.)]
You're gonna want to chill for a bit while you get used to the way the brace feels. I can't phase while holding somebody, so, um... Chances are, you're gonna be leaning on me and limping back unless I can find somebody else to help.
[she turns back to Maketh:]
I can carry you back while he's resting. If you want.
no subject
[It's a weak joke as he opens one eye, as if testing that it's safe to open the other before doing so. If he holds really still the pain is manageable and if there's one thing he's gotten really good at in the whole wendigo ordeal it's holding still.
Besides, he isn't the one who nearly died, so he's going to try not to complain or make anyone worry any more than they already are. He takes a deep breath and nods at Lilith's words; not great news, but far better than having to figure out some way home alone.]
Got it. I can do that.
[He tries to project more calm and confidence than he feels, offering both Lilith and Maketh a faint attempt at a smile and then nodding again at Lilith's suggestion. She should definitely get Maketh out of here first, so she can start trying to recover.]
no subject
She takes a slow breath, nodding just once. She doesn't enjoy being carried, but knows logically that she's in no shape to walk. Things are what they are.] Put him behind the bar. There's some cover and no one will see you from the outside...
[It's not enough. It's not. But it's better than leaving Chris out in the open.]
no subject
[The shelter that the bar provides him minimal, but it'll have to do. Beggars can't be choosers, particularly not when it's a few extra moments of safety on the line. Lilith takes pains to mind his knee and set him down, before returning to kneel beside Maketh.
She hadn't given a damn for Nick's comfort-- Rage or not, this was still kind of on her-- and she was out of commission, anyway. But Maketh... Lilith can't put any more stress on that shoulder or she'll wreck whatever her healing kit had just done. She wipes a smudge of Nick's blood from her cheek, brow furrowed in thought.]
If you can't hang on with that [that being her shoulder, which Lilith gestures to with an incline of her head] on my back, I can just carry you in my arms. It won't be for that long.
no subject
[The nausea's fading a bit, though it comes right back when he stands up with Lilith's help; still, between Lilith's support and the bar itself the whole thing could go worse and soon he's out of sight behind the bar. Although he doesn't think he's in a whole lot of danger--as far as he knows no one's after him--it still doesn't hurt to be safe.
So he'll just take a moment while Lilith deals with getting Maketh somewhere to rest, deciding to work on getting some of the blood off his hands--and his phone--by wiping them on his jeans while that goes on.]
no subject
Chris will be all right. He has to be.
Maketh exhales slowly.]
You'll have to carry me.
[Not just because of the pain - Maketh thinks she could ignore most of that if she tries - but because her hand has stopped cooperating. She can't make a proper fist or curl her fingers. She won't be holding onto anything for a while with that hand.]
no subject
Lilith gets to her feet, and after a moment of adjustment, takes a step forward. Maketh seems to be fine too. So far, so good.]
Chris-- I'll be back real soon. If anything happens, just call me, okay?
[Deliberate step by step, Lilith leaves the bar with Maketh in her arms.]
no subject
[He tries to project some confidence in his voice, but about all he can manage is to not stammer. Now that the immediate crisis is over he's exhausted and shaken and everything that's just happened is really settling in, and despite that he'd rather be almost anywhere but hiding behind a bar he's also really glad he's going to have a few minutes alone. It'll give him some time to try to keep his composure.
But first--]
Be careful.
[The last thing they need is to be attacked on the way to wherever they're going. Chris would offer the same as Lilith--that they should call if they need help--but he's kind of useless at the moment.]
