As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.
Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.
And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.
Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers August 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
Colosseum
That's a fine sword you have there. Where did you come across a thing like that?

Huh.]
...You know, weirdly, you look familiar.
[And not in the way things sometimes do. Instead, she looks recently familiar -- like from a recent dream. But he recovers quickly, gesturing with the scimitar in his hand.]
This is one of a pair. A family heirloom, I guess you could say.
[He whirls it around a bit in the air.]

[Time to embellish, in other words. She puts on her most solemn face, and glances around briefly as if someone might be listening in.]
The so-called 'gods' here, you may have been warned, enjoy making us suffer for their benefit. They feed off emotion, you see, more like some demons than the divine, which they are certainly not - and one of them in particular, who calls herself Confusion, tends to inspire these odd dreams. I've experienced them several times now, and met my fellow dreamers later. But they're all just as guilty of abusing us for their gain and pretending that they're gods in order to discourage us fighting back. And the worst part is that for most of these people? It works.
[Okay, mostly truth after all, but she looks far more concerned than she actually is by now. Fuck those asshole pretenders, she'll figure out some way to tear them apart one of these days.]
no subject
Maybe they're even more manipulative than simply with emotions, like his own spells he's discovered in himself. He does not like being on the receiving end of that.
You'd think that would mean he'd learn something, but mostly he just decides these "gods" are selfish arseholes.]
Well, from what I remember, they've got a certain "charm" about them, in a sense. I'd say they're powerful enough to get exactly what they want and nothing less.
[He barely knows them at this point, but he's already made his judgment on these people he's only heard about so far.]
Good to know, at any rate.
[Even though he doesn't trust anyone who says they're the only one telling the truth, just as a rule. Molly doesn't even trust the real truth. Bullshit's a way more comfortable beast.]

[But it's not worth naming herself and a handful of others as their enemies - for one because he clearly already knows her stance, and also because she doesn't really want to tell too much to some new arrival about who is and isn't on her own good side. Or what passes for one.]
Now, then, your sword. One of a pair, you say? Where is its other half?
no subject
At the mention of his sword's other half, he pulls a golden colored scimitar, contrasting with the silver of the first, out of one of the sheaths at his hip with a bit of a flourish. This one, strangely, does not yet have a glow to it the way the first one currently does.
He doesn't keep it out for much longer, opting to return it to its place at his side.]
That one is slightly more valuable in terms of magical ability, so I'd like to keep it far away from these rust monsters if I can help it. I don't know if they could affect it, but I'd rather not take the chance, you see.
[In truth, the golden one is made of actual metal rather than worthless glass -- and the two didn't come as a set. Originally, he had two made of glass, and the sword called Summer's Dance came later, discovered in a smuggling cache taken over by merrow in the swamp.
But now the lie is a little harder, though he can try to spin it as the two different swords having a contrasting theme: gold and silver, summer and winter.]

[She tracks its movements, nods appreciatively. She's seen a few people's weapons suffer to these creatures today already. Her sword doesn't, and if it did, she could simply re-summon it, but not everyone is blessed with the power of a great demon to back their blades. Thankfully, or she'd have a lot of enemies here, rather than people who look at her with fear rather than rivalry in mind.]
An odd pair, though, aren't they? They don't look much alike. How did you come across such a set?
[More of those buglike monsters creep at the perimeter; she turns to blast a few of them down with bolts of darkness. A few scamper out of the way with minor cracks in their shells, oozing greenish blood, but one takes a direct hit and stops dead in its tracks. There - conversation made less prone to interruption.]

They're a contrasting pair, though yes, it is a bit odd that they differ so much, at least in terms of magical ability. As for why one glows while the other doesn't, though, that is because I've only activated one so far. They are both activated by my blood.
[That much is hard to hide, considering he's sure he's been seen slicing a thin line across his neck to activate them, and is sure he'll be seen doing so again soon enough.]
As for how I came across them...
[He flashes a grin.]
My mother always told me never to give away a story for free.
no subject
[Magic swords activated through blood sacrifice? Sounds like a good time. Or perhaps it's his blood itself that holds such power. Something from his ancestry would be the obvious guess, but she knows well enough that such abilities can be obtained through more than just heritage.]
I'll show you to what these people call a 'speakeasy', then. Come have a drink. I might even be convinced to share a few tales of my own.
