Intro Log: Please Remove Metal From Luggage

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for August
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: August 10th-13th
Warnings: New folks, metal falling apart, fun stuff

As you wake up on the sand of the colosseum, gazing up at cloudy gray skies, you might wonder what you're doing here. Where are you? How did you get here? You'll figure it all out soon enough, so try to clamp down on that rising panic, or you just might end up in a dangerous situation.

Because, of course, you're not the only thing that arrived. The Door has also chosen to pull in some rust monsters. These monsters may look a bit like insects, but they're much larger, with a rather vicious bite. You can fight them, but be careful - anything metal that touches them instantly begins to corrode. Your sword, a bullet from your gun, even your robot friend. Might want to keep a little distance.

And that's not all. Scattered across the ground of the colosseum can be found a variety of unique and delightful musical instruments. If you're the musical sort, maybe you can figure out how to play one - or maybe you already know. Hopefully no rust monster has wandered too close to the one you want to try, or you might find that it's missing important metal bits.

Once you've found a way to express the song in your heart, feel free to leave whatever bit of safety you've found. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

The Shops

[unphase]

[she's currently wearing a costume, but she'd like to find some things for everyday wear. Tinya's used to nice things as she comes from old Bgztlian money and so far, nothing here has passed muster. she tosses a tshirt with YOLO written on it to the ground with a bit more force than strictly necessary]

No. Is everything here so--so 21st century?

[uptightness]

[Is that what it is?

It is not as if fashion has changed overly. You don't wear underwear on your head or shirts as pants - at least not in the circles she goes in. Material is still material. She can't say that she's familiar with a fair number of the things on the shirts.]

If you're able to get fabric, you can get others to make things for you. Otherwise, the selection is lacking. Can just turn them inside out?

[unphase]

[yes. it all looks like what people wore in holos of the past. but, oooh, that black miniskirt has potential. she's keeping that one.

they don't do those things in the 30th century, either, but the miniskirt will do. now all she needs to do is find a satisfactory shirt to go with it]

How do you get fabric? And no, I can't just turn them inside out. That would look strange. [she's about to go into full-blown pout mode]

[uptightness]

It's probably better than being nude.

[Just saying... Not that she is currently walking around in the buff, but it's not like anyone judges clothing. Or maybe no one has judged Carolina on hers. Not that she'd give a rat's ass either, and likely would give a very good screw off before I throat punch you look.]

I was told that you can get a task from Tranquility. To calm one who's angry or overly excited.

Yes, but--really? Is this what I have to settle for?

[she designed her uniform herself and shopped at only the most chic boutiques in Metropolis. the shops are a bit of a let-down.

she thinks for a moment. she doesn't like the idea of doing chores for her captors, but she's not seeing much choice] I guess that can't be too hard. Can it?

[uptightness]

Maybe she'll alter clothes?

[A dress or skirt aren't the things that Carolina goes for. Not that she doesn't mind a nice sleek dress, but practically? First, when would she ever wear it and to where? Second, they tended to not be the best to fight in.]

... if you can find a print you like, since dinosaurs don't seem to be your thing?

[unphase]

[she sounds skeptical] Maybe?

[she's assuming this place will have little need for superheroes and so she'll be bored silly before too long]

No, dinosaurs aren't my thing. The print is a little too cutesy for my taste.

[she sighs. it's not the stranger's fault that the clothing options are terrible]

I should introduce myself. Tinya Wazzo, codename Apparition of the Legion of Super-Heroes.

[uptightness]

[Ya... It's not exactly something she would wear either. She tends towards solid colours, maybe a striped pattern. Mostly just t-shirts or tank tops. Her wardrobe isn't exactly too varied.

But right. Introductions. It's not exactly something that she'd done.]

Carolina. Former Freelancer, although otherwise, just Carolina.

[unphase]

[and she prefers solid black or white or blue to go with her eyes. certainly not cutesy green dinosaur patterns!

as an ambassador's daughter, she's embarrassed she didn't get to it earlier]

It's a pleasure to meet you, Carolina. May I ask what a Freelancer is?

[uptightness]

In my case, a soldier.

[Keeping it sweet and simple, as she could give all the bullshit, but Carolina isn't one to typically talk too much about that. She's loosened up a little over time, especially with people that she is close to, but she's no social butterfly.]

[unphase]

Oh. [she considers a moment] We don't actually have those anymore.

[uptightness]

You don't have them?

[Which yes, her hearing works just fine, but it earns a firmer glance from Carolina.]

You've no need of them?

[unphase]

No, we don't.

[she looks mildly apologetic]

Not really. Most of the major inhabited planets have all joined the United Planets. One of the requirements of joining is non-aggression against other UP planets.

[uptightness]

[Not like it is something that she needs to feel sorry for.

Carolina just has a hard time wrapping her head around it. Humans do all have their own viewpoints, she knows, and sometimes they clash with others. People can reach agreements, but they can also break out in to conflict.]

... is it as peaceful as you're making it sound?

[Duuubious.]

[unphase]

For the most part, yes. [except for Daxamite racists determined to tear the United Planets apart from within] For when it's not, that's what the Legion is for.

[uptightness]

And the Legion is...?

[Designation? Army? Military? A race of beings? Carolina knows that it could possibly be anything that she can think of, or things that she can't even think of.]

[unphase]

The Legion of Super-Heroes. People with powers from worlds in the United Planets. Mine is intangibility. [and with that, she phases her arm and sticks it through a nearby wall]

[uptightness]

[And that? Most certainly not the answer that Carolina had thought she was going to give. Then again, it's not that surprising in the grand scheme of things.]

I suppose having a legion of super heroes negates a need for soldiers.

[unphase]

[she withdraws her arm from the wall and becomes fully tangible again]

There are only twelve of us total, but so far we've done a good job of keeping the United Planets safe.

[until the Daxamites came and begun to tear Earth apart]

[uptightness]

[Twelve.

Total.

That earns a small blink.]

You must be kept busy.

[unphase]

[and they're all under sixteen.

and most of them have modest powers like hers.

she smiles a little awkwardly]

Very busy. There's--a lot of stuff going on.

[stuff like rampaging Daxamites trying to destroy the Earth]

[uptightness]

[A bunch of kids... Carolina would have found that surprising, and a little troubling. Not that she doesn't believe that kids can do things, but kids shouldn't have to.]

There usually is... In one way or another, anyway. Hopefully nothing too bad?

[unphase]

[technically, the age of adulthood has been lowered to fourteen, but it's still a group of very young people who have to deal with very bad situations]

--oh! No. Nothing too bad.

[as long as she remains in denial, it's fine. time for a subject change]

How long have you been a soldier?

[uptightness]

[It is a slight change in course, although not too big of one. She'd enlisted as soon as she was able to do so, and had eventually gotten in to Project Freelancer. On her own merit, as well, not because of who her father had been.]

Sixteen years, give or take.

[unphase]

[she'd rather not discuss the Legion's most recent mission. to say that it wasn't going well would be putting it mildly]

Longer than I've been alive. You must be very good at it.
