Intro Log: Puddle Jumpers

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Fresh meat, lots of rain and angry ogres

If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.

That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.

Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.

Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!

Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[He can just shrug, really. He's not sure how or why things happened the way they did, but he can't complain too much.]

Once I got used to them and really learned how to use them, yeah. They weren't really that great at first, though.

Hmm. [ she looks at him and then back at the ogre. ] I didn't think about it like that. I figured that they'd be - different? Somehow. Obviously I don't have a lot of experience in cutting things open and looking at their insides. [ but you know whatever your hobbies are, dude ]

What if you find something different?

[Hmmmmm yeah this is gonna take some time. Tucker puts his hands on his hips, then lifts them again to make gestures.]

Think of it like, I don't know, different planets? Like, worlds?

[He's pretty sure they end up on different planets, anyway. Don't ask him how this actually works, he has no idea. He's not that smart. He tries to indicate a sphere with his hands, and then another sphere next to it.]

This place isn't the one you're from.

Well, yeah, you're right. I don't know shit about space.

[Self-deprecation works better with people who have big egos. Admit that Lord Starscream is smarter than him, and it might win him some subtle favor.]

I wasn't plannin' to build it myself. Once you tell everyone you know how to make a way outta here, you'll have a line of volunteers a mile long. But you've got a good point about the energy thing.

[He's... assuming that's what energon means.]

All we have here's a generator, and it's kinda busted, last I checked.

[Right, that's depressing, so Michael's quick to jump on a topic in which he doesn't have to deliver bad news.]

Oh, uh, yeah. There's like... I don't know, forty or fifty of us? A bunch. All different kinds.

[Kind of an understatement. There's all different species. And hopefully they don't all disappear again.]

There's food and stuff, too, and places you can stay. Place isn't much, but it's livable. Even with the, uh, monster problem.

[He's always been so smooth. It's a lot, honestly, more than she was able to handle the first time and certainly more than she's able to handle now. It's been a long time since she came to this place, but she didn't get treated like some incredible lady back home. And even here, it makes the color rise to her cheeks as he says things like lovely, even if she knows he's just a charmer. Alphys looks away for a moment, trying to force down the red she knows is coloring her face, stammering out a reply.]

Uh-- Tyki? You said you name was Tyki. We only t-talked a few times, uhm, you knew a friend of mine, and so, it... yeah.

[And they danced at a fancy ball and he said all kinds of nice things and she died a little bit because it all felt like it was absolutely not real.]

It has been a pretty long time, uh, since I saw you last, so-- it's okay! If you don't remember. It happens to a lot of people.

[Newt starts slightly when Caedra charges up to him. He's used to the constant activity in the lab these days, especially with all the Door fragments coming in. It's nice, sometimes, to have people around. He appreciates the energy, the appreciation for science, the constant source of entertainment.

But few people are actually here to interact with him. It's annoying, even though he likes to be allowed to focus on his own work. More people should be talking to him. He's one of the most brilliant minds here—if not the most brilliant.

All this to say he's not expecting Caedra to talk to him, and when she does, he's irritated that she doesn't know who he is. Figures.]

I'm Newt. I do the bestiary.

[With a scalpel, he points at the ogre leg peeled open on his table. It reeks because it's tough to preserve anything properly around here, and it's been over a week since Door Day. This is one of the last specimens he has to sort through.]

Do you want something?

(Hadriel is a land where, occasionally, you are either the hunter or the hunted. Sansa had spent a fair amount of time in another world, learning how to wield a sword and bow. Those skills haven't been allowed to rust! Yet she will always be more of a lady than a warrior.

Her sides ache and she worries for a moment if something is broken. But she is able to rise with relative ease - with Tinya's help - and she wipes at her lip absently.)

I do not mind the circumstances as you kept us both alive! (She smiles - or tries to - but her split lip complains at the motion.) I have been here...

A year. (It hasn't felt that long. She has moved with Hadriel twice and her time has been well occupied with slaying monsters and sewing garments for others.)

(She is here, on the off chance, she might find her family or perhaps even friends she had made before. The monsters frighten her to her core and she is shaking under her dress and cloak. Thankfully she has dispensed of the ridiculous raincoat - it was too cumbersome - so she will not make a fool of herself in front of him.)

Kelson. (Ignore how her voice is shaking too, please. Blue eyes dart from him to the Ogres, monitoring their lumbering movements.) I need to be here. If there is a Stark or one of my Elven kin, I must help them. They may not be able to defend themselves.

(She is freezing, yet, somehow, those words cause her to blush profusely. Good job, Lup!)

I am not carrying it for that purpose! (But she can't help smiling - ever so slightly. She is relieved to see the other woman and she hurries across the muddy ground to her side.)

Is that magic?

[He is charming, another carefully shaped facet of his personalities used to make his life more interesting. It's just how he is, building whatever side of himself up he needs to to make things fun.

But fun aside, he really is charmed by her, far more than he expected to be. She isn't lovely by any stereotypical judgement from Tyki's world, but her actions are as fantastic and fragile and feminine as any court woman he's ever met. Tricia, his brother's wife, has a gentle and simple face. She's hardly a stunning thing. But her ladylike demeanor makes her beautiful. And it's a beauty that will outlast her peers, her sickly life will end young but Cyril will never forget her actions and mind. And his family will judge other humans by her for ages. His brother might not love his wife, she's more like the dog they adopted, just another part of the game. But she's a treasured part of it that really can't easily be replaced now. Another white dog can be found any day of the week, but Tricia Kamelot is unique.

Like Alphys is unique. Not a traditional belle, but one that will probably never be seen again. And in a way, Tyki understands Cyril's strange choice now, at least a little. A charming personality is far more appealing than beauty that fades away and dies.]

I thought you might have known someone else, that looked like me. I've got a family member with more than a passing resemblance. [It's entirely complicated. Then again, so is everything since arriving here.

He's honestly not sure what to make of the whole situation. And there's something frightening in the idea of it, he doesn't want to carelessly make contact with Joyd to find out. The idea of his memories disappearing or being altered is unappealing entirely. And he doesn't want to think about it.

So for now, he'll leave it. And focus on good company instead of something that actually scares him a little.]

Thank you for being so forgiving. I'm behaving like a common heel, and you're still so kind to me. I wish I had the memories we shared. [Another smile graces his face, so gentle and appealing.] Perhaps then, we can make a few new ones?

No worries. I pretty much live for backtagging, sob.

[Tyki has very little actual romantic interest in humans, closer to none. But they're beautiful, and ever so amusing to spend time with. He really isn't bothered by little things like if she's married or not, especially if her significant other is appealing too. He just wants to enjoy the sights, so to say.

It's much like a visit to a fine art museum. Tyki appreciates the displays, but rarely thinks to touch them. Unless it's with violence, of course. But that's almost always reserved for Exorcists.]

I'm all about alliances. Temporary or otherwise. [He'll happily accompany her wherever she goes. He has no home here, no real plans either. So it's all about exploration for now.] So you'd like to get a look at the Teez? Fine with me. I've got two main types, if that makes it more interesting.

[Tyki's expression softens just a little more then, although his family situation is complicated at best, he feels a bit broken being away from the other Noah. And her face shows at least some sort of sadness, something unspoken when added with the short and simple no.

Different bonds, different losses, a different set of situations entirely. But painful on each side, none the less.]

A fantastic idea. A whole mess of them, hmm? [Tyki can't imagine that many little girls to deal with. Road is like having a hoard of awful children in one body, she's almost impossible to deal with as is.]

( You and her both, Newt. Kate didn't plan on embarrassing herself trying to swim out in the choppy waters of this planet when those rickety excuses for boats inevitably fell apart, for one thing.

It does mean that she's uncomfortably restless while waiting for people to return, the hammering rain making it all the harder to do anything else, and the weight of quickly disappearing time only serves to make Kate more irritable to everything.

But they can't exactly spirit people onto the ships now, so instead, a shrug rolls off Kate's shoulders and she exhales, walking closer to the chunk of ogre (this city is absurd), peering down at the pieces with the sleeve of her hoodie pulled over her nose. )

...Nasty things.

( A pain to kill, even with her bow, and she gets the feeling they're not exactly big swimmers, either. )

[Tyki is happy to bring some of those freaky powers. He's not sure just how he'll fare against what most consider to be literal gods, but he'll give it a try if he gets the chance to.] Among many things. Like free will, and the like. [Another long drag finishes the cigarette off, and he looks at it longingly. Maybe he can find some way to grow tobacco here.] Still, if commerce isn't what makes this world go round, far more interesting things can happen.

I'm the one who might be eating fish apples, so who's the real victim here?

[He's almost forgotten at this point that they're looking for a dog. Back to the hunt!]

We'll see what kind of nasty snacks your dog found. Maybe there's donut flavored dog bones or something.

[He noticed her voice shaking. He also noticed the rain and the Ogres and damn it was cold. Well he was cold. Because it was raining. Maybe those things would slip in a puddle. No, maybe not.]

Curufin is a member of the guard is he not? I'm sure he will protect and assist you or one of his own kin and ask for help if needed. You however, are wet and probably cold and I speak from experience, it is a lot more difficult to fight when you are cold and wet. And those monsters are not training dummies. Let's get you home and warm.

[ Probably, Kettara agrees silently. Clan ties are important. She stands, stretching out her arms and shaking water out of her hair all at once. ]

No. I don't know that place.

[ She tips her head to the side. ]

I'm from Durotar.

I guess you can say that they've been put on pause.

[Carolina doesn't know where Mistral is, although by now, it's not that surprising. A fair number of people do seem to come from Earth, but she is aware of those who are from different places as well. Anyway, not like the concept of an alien is a foreign one to her. She's known of the existence of aliens since she can remember.]

People do leave, but how they manage is the question.

Yes. Many daughters. And sons as well.

[ She wants many children, someday. To hold them and watch them grow tall and strong, to see them claim this new world as their own. She hasn't thought much about who she'll raise these children with, but assumes it will come with time. ]

I will have a great clan. Do you have any children?

[oldtonew]

Oh? How do you mean?

[ Tell her everything. ]

We're not all useless, you know.

[This is pushing closer to the limit of how much she can pretend she's not scared. Her insides feel like they're shaking, but her pride won't let her cringe under his eyes when he leans down to her.

She bites her lip for a moment, then tilts her chin up stubbornly.]

What would I have to gain from lying to you about something like that? Do you want my help finding it or not?

[Seel had to admit, SeaHierra was a pretty awful name. Or amazingly cool, he couldn't quite tell yet.]

Most people have names, yes. Jake. Alright Jake, how are you doing?

[Besides the slipping and falling and compromising his dignity.]

It's good to meet another teenager here. Most people seem to be in their twenties and forgot what it was like to be a teenager.

[it makes Tinya happy, too. she's hoping that they can be good friends]

I hope so! I've heard that there are a lot of people here with different fighting styles. I'd like to ask them about it.

[and Tinya has been taught how to fight hand-to-hand during her time with the Legion and earlier and is learning the sword]

I'm sure you would've been fine on your own, but two hands make for short work. [she smiles back warmly.

and then looks a little alarmed] A whole year? Really? People get stranded here that long?
