If the rain on your face isn't enough to wake you up in the colosseum, maybe the thundering footsteps and- well, thunder- is. The first thing that you may notice is that it's incredibly wet around here, with winds that could knock you over if you aren't careful and thunder that brings with it a torrent of constant rainfall.
That's all fine though, because the gods saw fit to help you out on your way in and now everyone will be waking up wearing a rain coat! These coats are a little odd, and some of them are downright silly, but we trust that you'll make do. Of course, a few of the raincoats have additional sleeves, neck holes, and entirely too many buttons as well- but hey, it's the best we could do.
Wait, what was that about thundering footsteps? Oh right, as you're navigating your new fashion choices, there are some monsters afoot who will want nothing more than to grind you into a pulp and eat you- well, if you're organic, that is. If you're not organic, then they still want to grind you to a pulp, but maybe not so much the eating part.
Ogres are from many fantasy stories, but these in particular are from the Dragon Age series. With incredible strength and stamina and massive horns, fangs, and a bloodlust for violence, these monsters won't stop until everyone around them is a blood smear on the ground. They're also not too happy about this rainfall either, so be careful not to slip in the puddles as you run away from them!
Once you've splashed around a bit, feel free to run off into the stormy abyss of our islands. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

and she's got no reason to hide what she is. not here. here, she can be as open about it as she pleases. and it pleases, if only for how much it would have pissed her old boss off]
A Grim Reaper. Those who collect the souls of those about to die and send 'em on to the afterlife. At least that's what I did in my world. Here? Kinda the opposite.
no subject
A grim reaper. So it's not just a one person job? There's more of you?
[He supposed that made sense if he actually sat and thought about it.]
(cw: suicide mention)
None of 'em are here, but yeah. There's more. And we're assigned to divisions. I had murders, accidents, and suicides. All the people who are guaranteed to ask you to take it back.
[very little makes sense about Reaping in George's world, but she's since learned that hers isn't the only way of death]
(cw: suicide mention)
[Sal has trouble enough just talking to them sometimes. Sure, once he gets passed the mortal wounds still very present on their bodies it's easy to just...talk to them, but that doesn't mean he doesn't think about it. About their deaths, or the lives they left behind, or regretfully gave up.]
Actually, if they don't want to go, you take them anyway, right? If so, how come some of them still hang around? Or they escapees or something?
[It would explain why they always seem as if they're in a rush to leave after a minute or two.]
no subject
[as long as George got to the soul before the death, it didn't retain any of its wounds. unlike the time Mason didn't get to a person before she got mauled by a bear]
Yeah, kind of have to. Tried to figure out ways around it at first, but they all backfired. And they don't hang around. At least not in my world. I don't get to leave until the soul moves on to the afterlife.
no subject
[So it probably works differently where she's from. Not that he has any idea how it really works where he's from, either.]
They hang around a lot where I'm from. My apartment is full of the dead who can't seem to let go of the place.
no subject
[death seems to work differently in almost every world. it really is weird]
Seriously? That's gotta suck. Are they at least decent roommates?
no subject
Most of them are just scared, I think. But for the most part they don't cause any trouble. I'll go back and visit them whenever I can. When they'll show themselves, at least.
no subject
Can't say that I blame 'em. Death's scary shit. And that's nice of you, it's probably lonely to be a ghost. But they're shy?
no subject
[Of course, he doesn't have the whole grim reaper perspective, but he's seen enough to agree heavily that death is some scary shit.]
I guess that depends? My friend Megan...she only comes out for me and my best friend. And even that took her a while. I think she's just shy. But others...sometimes I get the feeling something is holding them back.
no subject
she wrinkles her nose slightly] Holding them back? That doesn't sound good. In fact, it sounds potentially very bad.
no subject
[He shrugged, realizing the futility of trying to put it into words at the moment.]
It's pretty confusing to me.
no subject
So were you born like that? Being able to see ghosts?

[He didn't mean to echo her sentiment, but hearing that statement from someone who is apparently a 'grim reaper' is so strange. These differences are a lot bigger than he might have guessed, but it's fascinating.]
I guess that makes sense if they don't stick around where you're from. But yeah, that apartment is definitely...there's a lot going on there. You know when people in horror movies talk about a building having a dark past and lots of secrets? That...it's like that.
Crazy, huh?
no subject
Yeahhhh, I've heard of that kind of thing. Right before the jump scare in the trailer. How did you wind up moving in there? I figure the realtor didn't exactly advertise that fact while she was showing the apartment.
Very fucking crazy.
no subject
[There was no way to say that that didn't sound a little shifty.]
That, or not a lot of people saw anything. Even afterwards the amount of people who told me to stop talking about ghosts because it was nonsense was alarmingly high for a place where I couldn't blink without seeing one. But I guess...if you're not looking for that sort of thing you make up all sorts of excuses for the weird stuff you see.
no subject
[yeah, it does seem a bit sketchy]
I guess. People can trick themselves into believing that all kinds of things that aren't real are. I've heard that's especially true for supernatural shit, 'cause no one wants to believe that the world is so strange that things like ghosts aren't just possible, they're real.
no subject
[Of course, Sal can totally understand trying to rationalize away the scary stuff. Life can be hard enough without having to deal with creepy things you don't understand.]
no subject
[George kind of gets it. after all, she saw Gravelings, creatures which cause death, when she was alive. that was supposed to be impossible]
no subject
[There was also a lot of other factors playing into it, like Larry needing to believe it was a curse instead of a ghost - a reason for why his father left him. Sal felt bad about it then, he feels worse now having to keep the truth from him.]
no subject
[George on the other hand never knew that seeing Gravelings while alive was strange. she just knew that they were there, they existed. it wasn't until she was dead that she found out it wasn't something that was done]
no subject
[He laughed a little, but it was true. Who would've thunk it?]
no subject
[but not too guilty. and she laughs, too]
