Event Log: Memories Past

Have you ever looked through someone else's eyes? Heard through their ears, spoken with their tongue? The gods have tried to teach some of you empathy, but it's time you learned the hard way, exactly what the others here have been through. For a week, every time you brush skin to skin with someone, you'll experience a memory of theirs: happy, sad, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that it feels real to you.

The first touch may come as a surprise- it lasts only for a split second but may feel like an eternity, where you're trapped in someone else's memory. After that, it could be more expected, and some may even figure out how to control it and share specific scenes from their past with others. Or, you might wear gloves and long sleeve shirts for awhile, nobody's judging.

Maybe curtail the handholding for awhile- or go right ahead, if that's your thing. After all, you never really know somebody unless you've walked a mile in their shoes, right?

[Peter looks up from his phone and gives Pell a little shrug]

It does, but it takes a while. I'm actually trying to see how long I can do this for before I either pass out or my nose starts bleeding. So far I'm two hours in and feelin' pretty good.

That's far more than I could handle. Please do call for help if you fall directly on your head and concuss yourself.

[ He doesn't continue to the kitchen, though, still having questions. He gets the spider outfit now, but. ]

Is the full costume really necessary at home? Mask and all?

I will! Unless I'm unconscious. Not much I can do then.

It probably isn't necessary at all, but I'm not taking any chances. I don't need people getting all up in my brain business, know what I mean?

Then if I walk in and find you unconscious I'll try to keep the suit on, but I make no promises if you're bleeding.

Unfortunately, I'm very familiar. Both with Hadriel's tricks and my own kind's. But no one's going to grab you for a hug right now, I think we'd all rather keep the transfers to a minimum or nonexistent.

So wait, you can just do the memory thing whenever? Does that ever get super awkward, because that seems like the kind of thing that can get super awkward.

Yes, all hara are capable, it comes with the psychic abilities. It would be awkward if I couldn't control it, like this nonsense, but I have to want to and I wouldn't just go spelunking in people's minds without their permission.

...I didn't poke around in yours when I healed you, if that's what you're wondering.

Nah, honestly, I figure you were a little preoccupied with making sure I didn't bleed to death in the kitchen. Seemed like just doing that took a lot out of you.

[He's going to drop down from the ceiling now because upside down chats are ridiculous.]

I found it more difficult that it should have been. Like something was working against me, the flesh itself was dying as fast as I could heal it. Kyna said that's from a "necrotic" magic placed on the weapon that makes the person you stab rot.

[ Peter drops down, which makes this a little less silly, yes. ]

I wasn't a fan.

[He's just gonna pull his mask off too like there's no reason to keep the thing on, Pell isn't going to hop over and grab his face or anything]

Wow, like, okay, my body heals a lot faster than a... I guess a normal persons does. At this point I'm kind of assuming that's the only reason I even made it home, but I don't think I could have recovered from that without you.

[ Won't he? What if your cheeks need pinching, Peter? ... No, he won't be grabbing any faces. ]

Essentially, yes, that's what it felt like and how it was explained. Whatever blade she used must be enchanted or poisoned somehow. And it does explain why you weren't healing at all on your own, considering your own abilities.

...I'm glad you made it home.

[ Aww, Peter. Pell's expression softens a little, he really does love this little nerd. And a genuine thank you is always appreciated. He's had nasty patients before and appreciates the grateful ones. ]

If it had, it would have only been because of timing. Everyone there knows who to call if they're in over their head and we try to have someone capable with more serious injuries around at all times. But you're very welcome. I'd say "anytime" but I'd rather you don't make a habit of nearly dying.

I can't really make any promises, but I will try to be more careful going forward.

How many people can deal with the whole magic decaying sword thing, anyway?

[ Hmm. Pell considers that, thinks of the healers he knows of and how their abilities specifically work... ]

Honestly, I'm not certain. A half-dozen for sure, maybe? It depends on if many magic users have non-healing spells that could negate the necrosis. Then I'm sure a lot more people could help with that part of it.

Maybe they could learn spells like that if they don't already know them? I don't know, this whole magic thing is completely outside of my realm of understanding.

[He'll just stick to science and punching thx]

Maybe. I'm not familiar with "spells" like most people here are. Like whatever enchantment is on her blade. There are a few people I could ask, though.

[ There are others from worlds like Caedra and Kyna's, though not a ton. ]

If they know something like that, Kyna and her friends have had luck teaching others their magic. It's possible.

I only know what enchantments and stuff are in the context of like, video games and movies. I'm assuming this is somewhere along the same lines?

I've met Kyna. Or, well, she texted me once, offered to teach me some magic junk. I haven't really gotten around to meeting with her yet, but it's on my to do list.

I'm not familiar with either of those, but probably. The terminology does seem to match up between worlds, for the most part.

I've been told she's a good teacher -- and she has far more powerful offensive magic than I do.

That makes things at least somewhat understandable...ish.

If punching Caedra doesn't work, maybe I can learn to shoot fireballs at her or something. What sort of like, offensive stuff can you do?

I can't quite do "fireballs" but I can generate fire too, and I'm decent with telekinetic abilities. Anything else is hard to describe... I once willed someone away from me so intensely that he vanished. He was fine, but I don't know where he wound up exactly.

Okay not to like, question you or anything? But how do you know that he was fine if you don't know where he went?

Also remind me to never ever ever get on your bad side. Just in case.

Because I saw him the next day -- I just don't know where he went when I made him disappear, but it was temporary. I didn't want him dead or hurt or anything, just away from me.

[ A tiny smile at that last. ]

Don't get on my bad side. Not that I think you'd ever do so on purpose.

Oh! Okay, that's not nearly as bad as I as imagining.

Not on purpose, but I can be kind of a bonehead sometimes.

I certainly thought maybe I'd killed him, when I was told no he didn't just teleport away. But he was fine.

A bonehead? Like you'll say the wrong thing sometimes? We all do that, Peter.

That's still like, pretty nuts that you can even do something like that. I mean, nuts in a cool way, for sure, but like. Still.

Like I'll say the wrong thing, or like, get blown up or something. Most people don't just go out and get blown up.
