You all get some warning to prepare, which is great. A little time to stock up on supplies, make sure everything's where it supposed to be, call your friends in from their fishing boats. And then the city moves. It happens in the blink of an eye - one moment you're on islands, surrounded by ocean, and the next? The next you're surrounded by frozen ground, the temperature has dropped significantly, and even the sky looks different. The air has a bite to it, that familiar feeling telling you it's thinking about snowing soon. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday soon.
The city has rearranged itself back into that old, familiar shape, instead of spread out across islands like it was a moment ago. Maybe that'll make things easier for you, maybe it won't, but it also means the return of the lake and river that used to bisect the city - only now they're frozen over. This climate also means it'll be hard for any plants not otherwise protected to survive - and that you, too, will start feeling that cold if you're away from a warm place for too long.
And warm places might be in short supply, because when the city moved the gods did not. What does that mean for you? Well, whatever supplies are in the shops at the moment the city moves are the only ones left. No new food supplies, no new clothing, nothing. In addition, the power across the whole city is out, including water and heating. Anything else powered or supplied by gods (the hot springs, the mopeds, what's left of the orchard, the armory, the GPS) will not work.
You're on your own. Try not to die.► This log covers November 21st-30th.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you freeze to death, starve to death, are eaten by the local animals, fall through the ice, or find some other exciting way to die, please let us know here, and be aware resurrection will not be currently happening. You stay dead - for now.

It's colder than what I'm used to.
[it's good that someone is. she's planning to hunt down one of the planet's creatures and make a cloak out of its fur, but hasn't had the chance yet]
Have you done this before? And I suppose I could watch. [just in case things go badly]
no subject
[So: no. But it can't be so different, which is why he tilts the board down and positions himself on top of it in a pile of snow right near the top, inches from where the ice starts.]
So just so you know how impressive this is about to be, I'm gonna slide down this thing without using my arms. And also maybe do a flip. Actually, no, deffo gonna do the flip, it's gonna rock.
no subject
[she watches him carefully, curious despite herself. and he seems like he knows what he's doing?
out of all of those words, she got "slide," "without," "arms," and "flip." she supposes she can't exactly stop him. best keep an eye out in case things go poorly]
...good luck? [that seems the best thing to say, given the circumstances]
no subject
[He positions himself on the board, wobbling only a little while he finds his footing again, and pushes off.
Now here's the thing. Going on ice and snow, the board is required to be stuck to your feet. This is a key detail one elf was missing. So he pushes off, and instantly the board decouples from him, shooting up in the air and clattering down on the ice on the ground nearby. Taako meanwhile goes hard down onto his back in a weird and painful looking somersault, and ends up tumbling down the slide he's built to the ground in a heap.
When he speaks again, it's muffled into the ground.]
... So, that was the flip part. Def.
no subject
she's a bit concerned at the wobble, but doesn't dare interrupt for fear of breaking his concentration.
at the sight of the board shooting up like that and Taako taking what looks to be a painful tumble down the chute, she darts to the bottom of the chute where he's lying in a heap, kneeling into the icy ground beside him]
Yes, you certainly flipped. Do you need assistance getting back up?
no subject
No, it's-- it's cool, that was. Test run.
[Wow, his head hurts. Maybe this was a mistake.]
This is all a dream, actually, you're not seeing me like this.
no subject
...may I suggest not giving it a second try?
[he likely has a concussion. or at least she wouldn't be surprised if he did]
If you're worried about me telling anyone about this, I assure you I won't.
no subject
You can't tell me what to do, jeez.
[He wipes more blood off his face, reaching up to straighten out his ear.]
Well, uh, good. I'd-- I dunno, I'm too fuckin' tired to think of a good threat, I'd conjure your worst fear or whatever, I can do that.
[Taako pauses, suddenly looking around.]
Shit, where's my board?
no subject
I wasn't. It was a bit of advice, nothing more.
[at least he hasn't seemed to have done himself any lasting harm?]
Oh? You're a mage?
[she sees it sticking out of a clump of purple grass and goes over to fetch it for him]
It's right here. [she offers it to him]
no subject
Uh yeah, mage, whatever you call it. No, actually, I'm gonna correct- I'm a wizard, my dude. I worked hard for that title so I'm gonna own it.
[He takes his board back, starting to inspect it for damages.]
Sucks there isn't more wood around, I don't wanna convert this one. What a drag.
no subject
May I ask what the difference between the two is? I'd imagine that both can use magic.
[while she's trying to be subtle about looking him over for further injuries]
What would it require to convert it? And convert it to what?
no subject
Well there's, uh-- there's like multiple kinds. So a mage is just somebody who can use magic, right? But there's different titles based on how you get that magic, uh, mostly. So there's primarily sorcerers, warlocks, wizards, druids, uhh... rangers I guess but they're like druid lite. And then like, clerics and paladins I guess, and who the fuck knows what bards are doing, I sure don't.
[Taako starts picking off on his fingers while he describes.]
So wizards learn it through like, books and study, anybody can do it if you try hard enough. Sorcerers are born with their shit, it's usually a dragon's fault. Warlock's 're what happens when you fuck with demons and the fae, so, idiots. Druids eat dirt basically, I mean they're nature people, Rangers too. They just become one with the dirt, it's fine. Uhh... clerics and paladins worship gods that let them use certain magic but not all of it aaaaand bards are just fucking disasters. Music? They do music. They do music like, real good.
[A slight pause.]
What did you ask about the board? Now I'm thinking about weird bard shit. Ugh.
no subject
--bards! I know a bard. Travelled with one, actually. She said she'd teach me how, but we never got around to it.
I asked what would be required of the board to convert it to what you seek.
no subject
Oh yeah, bards are just-- ridic, honestly. The one I knew was weird as hell.
[And uhhh, might be showing up soon, but he doesn't know that.]
And uh-- right, the, the thing. I mean, I wouldn't want to mess with this one or I wouldn't have it. But there used to be a buncha useable wood around here and now there's zilcho. Plus for ice it'd probably be better served with like, a lightweight metal. Which I mean, also isn't around. But if I could make it outta wood I could transmute it. It's just, it's just this whole thing.
no subject
Leliana wasn't weird. She was kind and very devout, but not weird. What was the bard you knew like?
[it will be a fun surprise!]
Why is there so little wood here? I noticed a great many stumps, but very few trees.
no subject
[It's a long thing he'd rather not get into months after the fact, when he's already had his words with the people involved.]
Aaanyway. I'm gonna go fix up this thing, but I'm gonna leave the slide. I'm sure someone'll be into it.
no subject
Perhaps someone could. . . use it as a slide? For fun?
no subject
Someone else's problem now, for sure. See you around, my gal. And remember, you saw nothing.
[And he'll saunter off, board under one arm to think up more sick stunts.]
