World Log: Tundra Arrival

What: The log for the city's arrivel on the ice planet

When: November 21st-November 30th

You all get some warning to prepare, which is great. A little time to stock up on supplies, make sure everything's where it supposed to be, call your friends in from their fishing boats. And then the city moves. It happens in the blink of an eye - one moment you're on islands, surrounded by ocean, and the next? The next you're surrounded by frozen ground, the temperature has dropped significantly, and even the sky looks different. The air has a bite to it, that familiar feeling telling you it's thinking about snowing soon. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday soon.

The city has rearranged itself back into that old, familiar shape, instead of spread out across islands like it was a moment ago. Maybe that'll make things easier for you, maybe it won't, but it also means the return of the lake and river that used to bisect the city - only now they're frozen over. This climate also means it'll be hard for any plants not otherwise protected to survive - and that you, too, will start feeling that cold if you're away from a warm place for too long.

And warm places might be in short supply, because when the city moved the gods did not. What does that mean for you? Well, whatever supplies are in the shops at the moment the city moves are the only ones left. No new food supplies, no new clothing, nothing. In addition, the power across the whole city is out, including water and heating. Anything else powered or supplied by gods (the hot springs, the mopeds, what's left of the orchard, the armory, the GPS) will not work.

You're on your own. Try not to die.

[ Angus whaps his hands together to snuff out the flame before he gently takes the notebook back from Laura. ]

I thought it'd be useful to get an idea of how much food we have in stock, and how much of it is perishable. Just to, um...

That's a really, really good idea. We're gonna need to know that kind of stuff, depending on how long the gods take to keep up with us.

[ He keeps forgetting that he doesn't need to be so formal here, and that not many people actually enjoy it! ]

You think they just got... lost or something? On the way here? They disappeared for a while before, when everybody went on those sailing expeditions.

It's okay. Don't worry about it. It's just, it's okay to call me Laura.

Honestly, I have no idea. They could be doing this on purpose to mess with us, it's not like they don't know where we were supposed to end up.

That's true... that's what they did last time, after all, but they don't usually pull the same trick twice in the span of a few months.

[ They're pretty good at finding new and creative ways to wring horrible emotions out of their captives, after all. ]

Considering that they're the ones who gave us the choices, you'd think they'd have their shit together a little bit more.

I guess not. Unless they're running out of ideas? Three years of fucking with us, you'd think they'd reuse something once in a while.

[true, but she doubts their divinity. and their creativity.

she "pfft!"s out a laugh] Yeah, you'd think? But I guess they never get sick of disappointing us. Not just torturing us.

[ Angus chuckles nervously until something Laura said finally sinks in, and his face slides into a rictus of absolute horror. ]

W-wait, Laura, have... have you been here for three years?!

[she smiles and pats him on the shoulder, trying to reassure him]

I haven't. My roomie, Cecily, has been. I think she's been here since the beginning of everything?

[hellosirs]

Oh my god that's so long.

[ Sorry Laura, he's not very reassured! That's a new bit of information though - this whole interplanar kidnapping thing has been going for about three years. ]

Yeah, it kind of is. A lot of people to get to know, a lot of people to lose.

[that's okay, it's not reassuring information. she'd be glad to know she helped, though]

I... I'm sorry. I'm glad she has you, though.

How long have you been here?

So am I. Everyone from her world is gone. All except one. She needs people to be there for her.

[she thinks] Over a year. Maybe a year and a half. God, it's hard telling. Time doesn't seem to mean much here.

[ Well, that's kinda horrifying to think about. Angus would be a mess if most of his family disappeared... ]

Especially since time doesn't pass at all, back home. Taako said that things seemed to operate on a 24-hour cycle here, so the days and months probably match up to home, but...

... Oh, we must have arrived around the same time! I think I've been here a little over a year.

[Laura has no one from home here, but there are people she'd lose her shit if she lost]

But it's not like it matters, 'cause time went on pause when we came. Though, I'm not sure how it'll work in my case, since I'm dead back home.

Must have! It's hard to believe we've been here so long, isn't it?

[ Sorry Laura, he's never met a dead person before! ]

I, uh... I'm... sorry for your loss?

Dead. But this place brought me back to life.

[that would honestly surprise her, there seems to be a lot of dead people around here]

It's okay. I've had about a year and a half to get used to the idea.

I... I didn't know the Turbo-Liches could do that.

[ Kravitz must be so mad! Interplanar Necromancy on top of all this emotion-draining bullshit!

Still, god, Laura is so young...]

Did you... um, I'm sorry if this is insensitive, and please feel free not to answer if you don't want to, but... was it, uh, natural causes, or...?

Yeah, turns out they can.

[she doesn't know who Kravitz is, but if he deals with the dead, he's going to be plenty mad.

No, no, it's--I've had a lot of time to get used to it. I had a choice between being possessed by a demon and letting my father kill me. I'd rather die than be possessed, so. . . [she shrugs]

... That's hardly a choice at all.

[ Seriously, talk about a rough deal! ]

Maybe... maybe once we get the door figured out, you'll be able to go to a different world instead of back to your own?

No, it really isn't. Why couldn't I have been asked to choose between cake and pie?

I'd sure like to. I've got a couple of options in mind.

Which ones, if you don't mind me asking?

[ If one of those options is his own world, she might be able to strike some kind of deal with The Raven Queen. Maybe she could be a Grim Reaper, like Kravitz or Lup! ]

Well, yours for one. Thedas for another. Your world would probably be the easier option, but Thedas has something that needs doing and I think I can help.

[so she's really torn on what to do and where to go]

... I don't think I've heard of Thedas. You're certainly welcome on our world, though! We could probably ask The Director to set you up with a job at the Bureau, if you like.

[ If there still is a Bureau, anyway. ]

Thedas is pretty far behind mine when it comes to tech, but yeah. I've made some real good friends from there and I'd want to help.

But, what's the Bureau?

Oh, it's where some of us work back home! Well, um, I work there, and Taako does too, although I can't really see him sticking around now that I think about it, and... jeez, I think we're the only ones here who are officially employed by the BoB. Yeesh.
