There's a rumbling sound in the air early in the afternoon on December 26th. Whether you're new in town or you've seen it all, something like this hasn't happened before. Is it an earthquake? It feels kind of like a small one, and that might be endurable if not for the sudden snarling and gnashing of teeth!
As it turns out, these yet-unnamed apex predators are overrunning the city, ignoring their previous apprehension to barrel right through anything- or anyone- that stands in their way. Seemingly spooked by something, they are aggressive and violent and won't hesitate to tear anyone they meet to pieces... after trampling them underfoot, of course. They're so large and muscular that they may even take a few portions of buildings with them- how would you like to see one of these monsters crashing through your living room?
At least it's only these weird mammoths, though... right?► This log covers December 26th-December 28th.

Chance bites at its trunk, trying to keep it distracted from the two ladies. and Mariane keeps trying to sever its head from its neck. Maker, but this thing is at least as bad as an ogre. at least it has no hands with which to grab its prey.
she ducks a particularly wild swing of its trunk] Minding, thank you! How are you?

[ It's a truth universally acknowledged that Fereldans love their dogs, after all.
She sees Mariane going for the thick neck of the beast and has reservations...but, if the Warden deems that the best course of action, then she'll leave the other to it. Cecily slices across its underbelly and manages a decent gash; the creature is nearly felled, or so she assumes. ]
Oh, I'm brilliant. [ It's sarcastic, but not at Mariane's expense. Cecily snorts, wiping blood from where it's spattered her face. ] How are you?

[she adores Chance with all of her heart. and Pup seems like a good dog as well.
she's trying to sever its head from its neck, but her current course of action doesn't seem to be working. never mind. she'll swing around, one hand clutching its fur as she slices at its neck directly with the other hand]
I'm quite well, thank you. [blood has splattered all over Mariane as well, but she's terribly used to such things after the year of the Blight. a far cry from the lady she was raised to be, even though that lady liked to sneak into hidden areas and places]

[ Now isn't the time to imagine what might have become of Thedas if Andraste hadn't been betrayed. Now is the time to stop this predator from rampaging into the city, where it could hurt people who are alive now.
Between herself and Mariane, though, they're making short work of it. The Warden hacks into its neck and, when it finally falls to the ground, the Inquisitor takes to the other side and jabs her blade in. It's not too long after that that the beast stops moving (a few small twitches aside). ]
Maker's ass. [ She exhales, disgruntled. ] You didn't spot any others, did you?

I--[hadn't, she was about to say. but she feels the ground rumble beneath her feet and looks up to see what looks like more of the creatures approaching rapidly]--hadn't. But I think more may be on their way.

[ Those animals are the apex predators for a reason, after all. They're huge, powerful, and even more terrifying in a herd of any kind. ]

[she still feels no fear. fear was burned out of her by the Broodmother and the Archdemon]

[ Too many. She takes a deep breath, readying the weapon again. ]
Hopefully the dogs will be back before long.

[and she prepares to jump into the fray again]
I hope so. If not, we may be in a great deal of trouble.
want to fade this one out?
[ She'll wait for Mariane to dive in again before doing so herself, waiting with bated breath for the return of their hounds...and some non-dog backup. ]
that's fine!
