Event Log: The Stampede

There's a rumbling sound in the air early in the afternoon on December 26th. Whether you're new in town or you've seen it all, something like this hasn't happened before. Is it an earthquake? It feels kind of like a small one, and that might be endurable if not for the sudden snarling and gnashing of teeth!

As it turns out, these yet-unnamed apex predators are overrunning the city, ignoring their previous apprehension to barrel right through anything- or anyone- that stands in their way. Seemingly spooked by something, they are aggressive and violent and won't hesitate to tear anyone they meet to pieces... after trampling them underfoot, of course. They're so large and muscular that they may even take a few portions of buildings with them- how would you like to see one of these monsters crashing through your living room?

At least it's only these weird mammoths, though... right?

Saving your fuckin' life, probably.

[He just came out to have a good time and he's feeling so attacked right now? Actually, he came out to see if he could take down a couple of these animals for food and shit, but he's still feeling attacked. How dare she have the gall to backsass him when he's about to drag her out of harm's way.]

Like, three of these things have almost flattened you in the time it took me to jog over here. You need to move your ass.

[evocation]

Almost, but they didn't.

[She says, petulantly, now completely distracted. And, of course, in the second it takes her to be a brat, another one of the creatures comes barreling towards them, ready to make elf pancakes.]

[coyoteking]

[Wow? Only he's allowed to be flippantly reckless around here. You stop that.

And in the interest of stopping that, Charles grabs her by the shoulders and just sort of... puts her aside. Just in time for the mammoth monster to charge past, the wind from its motion ruffling both of their hair.

He doesn't even say anything, he just gives her A Look.]

[evocation]

[That's pretty easy for him to pull off, considering their considerable size difference, and for a split second she looks offended. Then their mammoth buddy nearly misses her, and she actually wilts a little under that look of his.]

Um. Thanks.

[Her tone is a little begrudging, but hey. It's a start.]

[coyoteking]

Don't mention it.

[No really, don't. He has a tough guy reputation to protect.]

Are you always like this, or is this a special occasion?

[evocation]

[She scoffs at that, instantly offended.]

Like what? Totally badass?

[She knows exactly what he means, and how dare he!]

[coyoteking]

Yeah, sure. The lightning hands? That's badass. But the reckless endangerment? Not so much.

[It's a bad look, Kyna.]

Look I get it, it's a nice way to get rid of frustration. But it's not really worth fuckin' dying over.

[evocation]

[Kyna's torn between being pleased that he fed her ego, and being utterly annoyed that he called her out so perfectly. She frowns, brow furrowed.]

Look, I've had like... the shittiest day possible, okay?

[coyoteking]

So what, you wanna die now?

[He glances around them, over Kyna's head.]

Can we have this conversation somewhere we aren't in the way of the fuckin' running of the bulls?

[evocation]

[Kyna blows out a breath, and it turns into a raspberry halfway through. Stop being tall, Charles! It's annoying! Since they're already manhandling each other, she grabs for his arm to drag him toward a nearby shop.]

I don't want to die, I want to zap things.

[coyoteking]

[He'll let himself be dragged, or more accurately, he'll walk along with her. He kinda doubts she could physically move him if he didn't want her to.]

Yeah, alright. But how much do you give a shit if you die in the process?

[evocation]

Like... Ninety nine percent.

[She makes a face, then lets go of him and crosses her arms.]

Okay, look, sometimes I have... poor impulse control.

[coyoteking]

[He snorts.]

Don't we all. That's why it's better to have somebody around to tell you when you're being an idiot. I left mine at home. Guessing you did, too.

[evocation]

[She wrinkles her nose, scoffing to hide her discomfort.]

Mine died earlier today.

[Way to make this awkward, Kyna.]

[coyoteking]

[Whoops.]

Shit. Sorry.

[That sure does explain a lot, though. Charles knows he'd do a hell of a lot worse if his voice of reason died on him. But that would be permanent. It's different here, right?]

Those gods'll bring them back though, right?

[evocation]

Yeah, I guess. If Hope comes back.

[She's feeling pessimistic, apparently.]

Are you new? I haven't seen you around.

[coyoteking]

People seem pretty confident on that one.

[He's not familiar enough to have an opinion, but it sure would be nice if Hope did come back.]

And kind of. Came here a month or so ago. I was here for like, a week before that.

[evocation]

Oh. With that big, random group of people who mostly went home, right?

[coyoteking]

Yeah, that. Guess this place decided it wasn't done with me. Which, whatever. Not like shit happens back home while we're here, right?

[He's found himself asking that a lot lately.]
