Event Log: The Stampede

There's a rumbling sound in the air early in the afternoon on December 26th. Whether you're new in town or you've seen it all, something like this hasn't happened before. Is it an earthquake? It feels kind of like a small one, and that might be endurable if not for the sudden snarling and gnashing of teeth!

As it turns out, these yet-unnamed apex predators are overrunning the city, ignoring their previous apprehension to barrel right through anything- or anyone- that stands in their way. Seemingly spooked by something, they are aggressive and violent and won't hesitate to tear anyone they meet to pieces... after trampling them underfoot, of course. They're so large and muscular that they may even take a few portions of buildings with them- how would you like to see one of these monsters crashing through your living room?

At least it's only these weird mammoths, though... right?

[Peter, why . . . Alucard stares after him for a long few seconds, then sighs deeply. But he's off after him, following so quickly he's almost unseen. Frankly, he could follow him blind; he leaves a scent trail that just screams to Alucard's starved senses.

They head to the clinic, and thank god, they make it in one piece. The instant they get past the doorway, he grips Peter's forearm, not so much nasty as simply firm: come along. Sit on a bed. Settle in.]

[Peter was about to go chill in the little waiting area, BUT NOPE, his new vampire babysitter has other, and probably way smarter plans. He doesn't try to pull his arm away, because that would probably be rude, but he does plant his feet and refuse to budge. Because teenager.]

I-- okay, listen. I really do appreciate you making sure I get here in one piece, like, that was real solid of you. You seem like a good dude. But I've totally got it from here. Seriously, I've got this.

[He's 100% going to leave as soon as nobody's watching him, is what he means. But shhhh.]

[He lets that hang in the air.]

You wanted to glue your skin together, in lieu of stitches or bandages. No matter how fast-acting you heal, that won't help.

They make medical glue, y'know.

[Which might be great for a nice, clean cut, but maybe not so much for all these bite wounds.]

[He did not, actually, know this, because he's from the 1400's, but whatever! Moving on!]

Did you mean medical glue when you suggested it.

I can hear your heart racing, you know. I can tell when you're lying.

[He can tell when someone's being guilty about lying, anyway, but speaking of lying, guess who really has no qualms about it: this guy.]

You realize I could have had you out of here by now, yes?

I mean, I'm not really trying that hard.

[He's never been a good liar anyway, it's all good.]

I'm gonna call shenanigans on that one. It takes way longer than the like, three minutes we've been standing here to do stitches and stuff.

Let's put that to the test, shall we?

[He just kind of stares for a second like ?????]

Wh-- like, what does that mean? What do you mean?

It means that I'll stitch you up-- you're still bleeding, by the way, in case you hadn't noticed, it's opened again-- and when I take longer than two minutes, you can have the pleasure of telling me I told you so.

Whoa, okay. I mean-- oh crap, I am bleeding again. No, I-- okay, so you're a doctor and a ghost wolf? Okay. Okay, cool fine. Let's uh. Let's do this thing?

[He has so many questions right now and all of them start with "what the fuck", BUT SURE, he'll roll with this madness.]

[Thank god. He nudges him into a spare room, heading back out to find a needle and thread. It won't take more than two or three stitches, and that won't take long. Honestly, cleaning him will take longer, and boy, that's a lot of antiseptic, but better more than less.

(And the scent masks the scent of blood, which also helps).]

My mother was a doctor.

[He says it quietly by way of explanation as he wipes away dried blood and god knows what else.]

[Oh good he's not a doctor that's SUPER. But he seems to know what he's doing, and Peter figures his weirdo super-healing will take care of itself, sooo. Sure, he'll just. Hang for a bit and get sewn up.]

Uh...huh. I take it she must have taught you a lot?

[He hopes this dude's mom taught him a lot, just sayin']

What, exactly, are you going to do if I say no?

[Just saying. But he's joking, in that deadpan way he has, and his hands are very sure.]

Yes. She used to take me along when she would do home visits-- on occasion, anyway.

[Peter assumes it's a joke? but he also doesn't know this guy at all so like who knows.]

At this point? I'd just sit here and take it. That's pretty cool, though. Best way to learn is to jump right in, yeah?

Mm.

[Agreement, but he's a little more quiet as he threads the needle. And maybe now Peter will notice, given he's pressing his fingers gently against his skin, just how cold Alucard is.]

She was my father's pupil, first and foremost. You can well imagine what growing up between the two of them did for my education. Though there are worse things to learn.

[Yeah bro those are some icy hands. Peter flinches away from them at first, since he wasn't really expecting cold fingers to come at him. It's weird, for sure, but his mind is less stuck on "vampire?????" and more on "another dead guy?????". He has a really weird roommate situation, okay. He's gotten used to people having weirdly cold hands.

He relaxes again after a second and just accepts that this is where his life is right now.]

That sounds pretty awesome, actually. You're dad's a doctor too, then?

He's many things. A polymath, frankly, who has collected an enormous amount of knowledge.

[One stitch, and it must hurt, but he'll do it as painlessly as he can. He's not a sadist.]

[PAIN KILLERS WOULD HAVE BEEN SUPER GREAT but Peter just sits there and takes it like a CHAMP. Wow he hates this.]

All medical or just like, everything?

[dhamphirs]

It's easier to err on the side of everything-- though I assume there are some niche subjects he hasn't learned of.

[DON'T BE A BABY, PETER, two stitches left . . . he's deft, at least, and moving quickly.]

[HE. HATES. THIIIIS!! But the chatting is a great distraction, so hey. Could be worse?]

I mean, I guess it would be kind of impossible to know literally everything. People only live so long, and like the universe is endless, and blah blah.

That's certainly a way to look at it, yes. I imagine he explained the limitations of his library to my mother in such a way.

[One more, and then he's done. He moves quickly, covering the stitches with gauze, then patting Peter's shoulder. There you go.]

He sounds pretty interesting. I mean like, super interesting, I could chat with someone like that for hours.

[YES FINALLY. It really hadn't taken that long, but as long as he's sitting in here, he's not out there punching mammoths.]

You done already? Awesome, I really need to get back to work.
