Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.
The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.
When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...► This log covers January 4th-Januray 8th.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you try a weird solution to make it back home, please let us know here.

[ A leftover joke from his childhood. A cruel one, he thinks, but he's taken the name as his own. Claimed it for himself. ]
You're special, then?
[ A talking dog. Okay. ]
What do the sniffers look for?
no subject
Most things are.
[Special. In a way, yes, yet no more than anything else in the universe. It is one of the reason that she had chosen to make a stand, and chosen to stand for herself the second time. Yet she doesn't provide a response to that, only the latter.]
Anything interesting! Bombs and guns, apparently, but I'm sure that they can sniff whatever they really want.
no subject
Yeah? That'd come in handy here.
[ He hesitates, tapping ash off the cigarette. ]
....can I pet you?
no subject
[Yet she doesn't seem heartbroken over it at all. In the end everything had worked out just fine with that, and it isn't as if they had been without means. They'd ended up even getting a ride in one of those horseless carriages, as bumpy as that had been.
The question does have her ears perking, as if nothing else, the Dog always enjoys a good scratch. While she might be able to pet herself, it just isn't as nice.]
Of course. Behind the ears is my favourite, but beggars can't be choosers.
no subject
Is that bad, talking?
no subject
Only when you're not supposed to.
no subject
Ephemera rubs her head. Why not? ]
Good point. That can get you in trouble. Guess it also depends on what you were saying, though.
no subject
[Which are the only things that are proper for a sniffer to say. Possibly a howl. The Dog didn't actually read up on them or anything, just went by what had been told to her, so they may well have had formal training when they did detect something.]
A little to the right, if you don't mind.
no subject
That okay?
[ Besides, he likes this one. Maybe dogs aren't awful after all. ]
One of my friends had a cat, for a little while. It didn't talk, but he loved that thing.
no subject
Perfect.
[Her ears do shift to a more alert position when he mentions a cat, thinking for a moment that Mogget has been up to something. So far there hasn't been any danger signs or the like. It's unlikely that there is anyone here strong enough to remove his collar anyway.]
I know a cat. He can be fairly troublesome. Quick with the claws, although not quite quick enough.
no subject
Don't know much about animals. The cat didn't have a tail. Just a little nub. But it'd curl up in our helmets sometimes and purr.
[ That was a long time ago. Ephemera's voice is fond and a little sad. ]
Dogs wag their tails when they're happy, right?
no subject
She might bite though.]
It's one of the signs, yes. Relaxed position, tongue out, happy barking.
no subject
[ Strangely, this is one of the easiest conversations Ephemera's had in a long time. He rubs the dog's head, shifting to scratch carefully behind her ears. ]
Dunno what happened to that cat. Barrows left it with some kids. Maybe they lived.
[ He hopes they lived, anyway. ]
So. Why're you disreputable, anyway?
no subject
I find cats to be fairly resourceful.
[After all, Mogget had been carried around for some time in a knapsack and had even been given sardines in a can to eat. The Dog on the other hand had enjoyed walking around on her own two feet, to get muddy and wet and overall dirty.]
It's a state of being. Takes a fair amount of work, you know.
[And her head may be tipped a little to the side to let her tongue dart out to lick along his hand. Thankfully she doesn't aim for his ears or cheek. That had been more for her mistress.]
no subject
I can imagine. [ Something you have to practice. ] Why, though?
no subject
[Even a direct question is something that the Dog will squirm and wiggle out of without people even being aware sometimes, but an open ended one that she can interpret anyway... She licks as her jowls, an innocent light in her eyes.]
no subject
[ The Dog's good at talking, that's for sure. Ephemera isn't sure being disreputable is a positive, exactly; it's not what he'd choose to be named after. But then again, he's listening to a talking dog. All bets are off. ]
no subject
[She is open to suggestions, although she does enjoy being what she is. After all, the Dog had chosen it for herself. It allows her a lot of leeway to do as she pleases, when she pleases, with what she pleases. To wiggle and worm out of answers as well. Plus, it does have a certain flair to it, she thinks.]
no subject
You know. Infamous. Ignominious.
[ He knows big words. Well, that big word. ]
Seems pretty specific, being disreputable.
no subject
[Not that she is saying that people are not smart enough, but the two d's do roll nicely off of her tongue.]
no subject
no subject
[Does she seem bothered by that fact? Not in the slightest, in all honesty. It is part of the appeal, and she hasn't even grown wings or suction cups on her feet. Perhaps one day she will fly around again, although it had been more fun watching her mistress scare people.]
... it is still amusing to watch.
no subject
Well. Could be weirder. He's not sure how, but Hadriel has yet to disappoint. ]
Gotta get your kicks somehow. Where're you staying, anyway? Do you live in a house or what?
no subject
[With Atem for a time, but since his departure, the Dog just comes and goes as she pleases. The cold doesn't actually bother her, given that this form is a mixture of Free and Charter Magic made to appear like a dog.]
Plenty of places to see.
no subject
[ Though, talking dog. Why not? ]
That's true. This place is nothing if not interesting.
