Event Log: Is It a Wonderful Life?

Who: All characters participating in the event
What: The event log for Is It A Wonderful Life? event
Where: All over the city
When: Jan 4th-8th
Warnings: None

Throughout the next few days, you may find yourself plagued by visions and dreams of back home. The dreams will be lifelike and difficult to tell apart from reality, as the world will be constructed from what you remember of your world. However, unlike usual dreams, you won't be present, and will find yourself unable to be seen or heard by those around you.

The dreams are vivid reminders of what might happen in a world without you: a world in which you disappeared when coming to Hadriel, a world which desperately needs you back for some reason or another. You may see your parents putting up missing posters, your significant other moving onto their next relationship, or even your hated villain finally taking over the world without you there to stop them.

When the vision leaves, you're back here and nothing about the city has changed. Though maybe you have a different outlook on it now...

► This log covers January 4th-Januray 8th.
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you try a weird solution to make it back home, please let us know here.

There are far less people here than in Thedas. [ Perhaps Highever was less crowded, or perhaps the Warden is thinking of her small and intimate traveling band. ] I think that you can still get away from them if you need the peace and quiet, though.

[ Cecily has certainly learned to do so. ]
theladyofhighever: (this fantasy this fallacy this tumbling)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-01-26 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Highever was crowded, but she spent much of her time in Castle Cousland with the occasional trip to Denerim. she misses her companions and her family desperately] Where? Where are good places for peace and quiet?

The hot springs or the orchard would be a good bet for that. Or at the top of a Guard Tower.

[ AKA, what she's currently doing. ]

If you're looking for something more permanent, I won't be offended if you want to find a residence all to yourself.
theladyofhighever: (I can see no way I can see no way)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-02-04 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I see.

[perhaps she's unwelcome? she's unwelcome, isn't she?]

No. No, that won't be necessary.

[if she goes to live by herself, it will be all too easy to stare at the walls and brood over things she can't change, only emerging occasionally for food]

[personal profile] closerift 2019-02-08 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[ There's a pause, and then she sighs. ]

I'm not trying to banish you, Mariane. I just wanted you to know that you do have options.

[ They don't have to live in the same house just because they're all from Thedas. If the Warden wants her space, then there's room for it. ]
theladyofhighever: (and my running feet could fly)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-02-08 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
[she's twisting her hands into knots, then realizes she's doing it and forces her hands apart and still]

No, I--I didn't think you were. [except she kind of did] I know I do. I would prefer to stay where I am. [she doesn't trust herself alone] I've become accustomed to companionship.

That's fine, then. You're always welcome. [ They'd taken in as many as they could to Skyhold: why should this be any different? ] I think Pup likes the company of another mabari anyhow.
theladyofhighever: (and no rivers and no lakes are going to)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-02-12 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you. I appreciate your kindness more than I can say. [and it's true. she misses her Blight companions more than she can say (or would ever say)] As does Chance. He's not had the opportunity to spend much time with another mabari since he chose me.
closerift: (days are just drops in the river)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-02-15 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't mention it.

[ You might make her blush. ]

I'm not sure how much exposure Pup has had to other dogs. There've been one or two others in Hadriel - mabari, that is - but when we found him in Orlais, he'd been abandoned.
theladyofhighever: (keep it up! I know you can!)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-02-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I must! Mother and father always taught me to be gracious when others were kind to me.

[and she reveres the memory of her parents.

she looks alarmed]
Abandoned? Who could do such a thing? It's--it's so terribly cruel.
closerift: (young today)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-02-20 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
The Orlesians could. They chase every passing fancy and whim, as I'm sure you know. They likely thought the thing a novelty.

[ She isn't a dog person, really, but no animal is deserving of being in Orlais (and abandoned). ]
theladyofhighever: (and I could hear the thunder)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-02-20 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[she closes her eyes briefly and frowns]

Ah. The Orlesians. Now it all makes sense.

Tell me, have they left Ferelden alone? I worry that they may try something, thinking us weak from the Blight and an untested king.
closerift: (Default)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-02-24 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Left...? [ Maker. She can hardly remember the state of Ferelden, and...in the grand scheme of things, it's not as important to her as their current mission, but she tries to remember how things had been going with Queen Anora at the helm.

(It isn't what Mariane means, but it's Cecily only frame of reference.) ]

They're...fine, I think. The Fereldans, I mean. There was an issue with mages in Redcliffe, but the Inquisition saw to that. Otherwise, it's going smoothly enough as far as I know.
theladyofhighever: (a thousand armies couldn't keep me out)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-02-26 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[no, it's certainly not what she means. in her world, Anora was deposed and imprisoned with no chance for reprieve for refusing to swear fealty to Alistair.

and a small line forms between her brows]
Mages in Redcliffe? I don't. . . understand. Why would the mages be in Redcliffe? [she'd left the Circle wanting to do something about the treatment of mages, but this has her rather confused]
closerift: (young today)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-03-06 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
You remember when I told you that I'm from ten years into your future, don't you? There are a lot of things that have changed.

[ There were always mages at Kinloch, but this goes far beyond that. ]
theladyofhighever: (and it's an even song)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-03-06 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yes--yes, of course I remember. How could I forget? Did Alistair give the mages refuge there?

[because she remembers Alistair emerging from the Circle Tower as concerned about the mages as she was. it would make sense for him to try to settle them somewhere else. but if it meant the removal of Arl Teagan...?]
closerift: (Default)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-03-12 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
Well, the long and short of it is that there are rebel mages who have been using the area as their stronghold. It was chaotic enough everywhere that removing them was not possible, at least before the Inquisition became involved.

[ That'd been the case for a lot of things, unfortunately. ]
theladyofhighever: ((moving up to higher ground))

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-03-12 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
I--I see. I suppose that being given a taste of freedom that there are those who would take advantage of it to the detriment of others. You . . . were able to help the mages, were you not?

[for she remembers the Circle tower, remembers children as young as Oren there. she saw his face in every one of them, saw the templars ready to strike them all down and rebelled against it with all she could muster]
closerift: (high in the window)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-03-15 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
We weren't there to help the mages. [ She replies with a sort of crispness, recognizing that Mariane has no reason to know the depths of the destruction in the Hinterlands because of the mages. ] We were there to stop the mages - and the templars - from slaughtering innocent people. Refugees.

[ Of course, you can only save so many...and there were so many there who needed aid. ]
theladyofhighever: (blood sticks sweat drips)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-03-15 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
Refugees? But, from where? [the more she hears of this future, the less she likes it. the less she likes it, the more she blames herself for not being good enough to keep it from happening]
closerift: (like clutched ivy)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-03-22 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
People who were disposed from all over because of the fighting. People in both Ferelden and Orlais have been trying to avoid being caught in the middle.

[ With varying degrees of success. ]
theladyofhighever: ((history keeps pulling me down))

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-03-22 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
[she shakes her head] I can't believe Alistair would allow such a thing. Not when he knows what mages are capable of and of the abuses templars can mete out.
closerift: (Default)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-03-29 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
[ Maker. How many times is she going to have to lie about what Alistair is or is not doing in her version of Thedas? ]

...Right. Well, in any event, it's nothing to worry about while we're here. Hadriel has its own lovely set of problems, and there's just not enough room to squeeze in thoughts of Redcliffe.

[ Otherwise, she may have to slip away soon to avoid 'spoiling' the young Warden. ]
theladyofhighever: (I'm gonna leave my body)

[personal profile] theladyofhighever 2019-03-29 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
[forever. quite literally forever. she's violently protective of Alistair and it took all of her willpower to let him duel Loghain alone]

I see. I simply . . . want to know what I'll have to deal with, as queen.

[because the thought of being dragged back into the Grey Wardens is anathema to her]
closerift: (gone you know)

[personal profile] closerift 2019-04-03 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
You'll come into that in your own time.

[ Cecily rises to her feet for now, though, glancing out over the expanse beneath the watchtower. ]

...For now, though, I ought to keep up my patrol. Will you take my place up here for a while, if you have the time?

(no subject)
