Welcome to Hadriel. Your first glimpse of your new home is maybe not the most welcome - you awaken on the floor of the colosseum, surrounded by sand and walls and... trees? Yes, trees. Along with you and the other newcomers, a number of Territorial Oaks have arrived in Hadriel. They look just like normal trees, except for those welcoming smiles - oh, and they don't like you at all. They move fast, hit hard, and if you manage to bring one down it'll go out in a large, dangerous explosion. This may have you rethinking your stance on clear-cutting.
While you're trying to avoid the trees, you might come across a few of the other things the Door has deposited in the colosseum for your (its?) entertainment. Namely, a bunch of toys that no one has played with in years. But maybe one of them will tickle your fancy?
Once you've finished indulging your 90's nostalgia, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers February 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
Liv Moore | iZombie | ota
[There is that little groan from Liv as her eyes open, and it does take a moment for the confusion to fade away to register that she is no longer in a morgue waiting to spoon in to her meal. No, she... Is in a forest? That makes absolutely no sense, Liv thinks, as she rises slowly, brushing the sand from her hands. A kidnapping? It is true that things have become a little dicey with the existence of zombies coming to light, even if it isn't something that is believed mainstream, yet. But, with the tan and the wig, Liv has been able to pass as human no problem, even if she doesn't like it. And, why a forest? Last time, Don E had been kept and camera'd, waiting to starve him out.
She still glances around, a small frown on her mouth, and oh, a phone? Bending, she picks it up, although it isn't hers. It's a creaking that catches her attention, that has her looking over her shoulder towards where it has come from. She doesn't see anyone, or anything, but pushing the phone in to her pocket for the moment, she turns her body in the direction.]
Hello? Is someone there?
[Although Liv is aware that depending, she may or may not get a response. Still, she does start to take several careful steps in that direction, trying to figure out where it is that she was, and how she ended up here. It's another creak that makes her pause, glancing up at the tree to her right, and is that- it almost look like it is smiling? Has she been hit on the head, suffered some sort of injury, because that doesn't- it's a grunt, stumbling forward, having been struck by something, although Liv isn't entirely certain by what. She ducks, pressing up against the trunk of a tree, catching her breath, only to find the trunk slipping away from her and-]
You... are walking?
[Yes, she is talking to a tree, perplexed, moreso when it moves threateningly towards her, and how does she even deal with that? By moving, ducking out of the way, and running. Perhaps in to you? Perhaps by you?]
[Exploring]
[Her lab coat is a little worse for the wear, smudged with dirt, and there is a hint of a scratch on her cheek. Her hair might have a twig or leaf, or two, although she has tried to get most of it out. To say that she feels like a stranger in a strange place is pretty clear. Her eyes keep glancing around, confused, because this is all... Well, being turned in to a zombie and waking up in a body bag has been a standard by which Liv can judge most things. She's not being held captive by some people who want to prove that zombies exist and that is a plus, right?
Her hands are in her pockets, and she browses the shops, looking for anything that may be familiar. Hadriel means nothing to her, and this whole place is pretty basic, at least from what Liv can tell. No cars, no tvs, heck no paved roads four to six lanes deep. It's pretty quiet, all around, which is strange. She can say that she has always liked the life that hums in Seattle, maybe moreso when she had been alive and able to actually taste the foods and drinks, but there are still many things that she does like about it.
She browses the shops, looking at some of the items, turning to the people near her.]
Everything really is free? No, surprise, you now owe ten thousand dollars in debt for a credit card that you didn't read the fine print on?
[Later she is standing off to the side, device in her hands. There is that frown that plays on her lips as she tries to make it work like the cells that she knows back home. Liv is, obviously, having no luck at trying to call the people that she knows.]
Siri? Alexa? Hello, phone? Where is the internet feature?
[Wild card]
[Liv will be out and about, exploring.]
[ooc; will match any format]
Exploring
You're right about that. The shops get items in occasionally, it's best to just grab what you want when you see it. Or someone else will do it for you. No worries, surprise debt is unappealing and doesn't happen here. Unfortunately, neither does going home as you please.

[Little drop parachutes? ... god minions filling the shelves? She hasn't seen anyone working, or if so, it is not obvious that they are employed here at this particular place. It's not like Liv has seen people driving around delivery trucks to bring foods. And really, it's not like she actually requires food that the normal human would eat. Something spicy or something to add to her regular diet, sure, but not as a full time meal.]
But people do leave... Just, on a whim?
no subject
[Oh, he'd lose it if he had those sorts of mental images. But there's not a lot of food here as is, and things are complicated on the icy planet lately. But they've managed well enough, and as far as Tyki knows no one has starved.]
Not on their own whim, I'm afraid.

What exactly do people do around here then?

probably a newbie. which turns into definitely a newbie at the other woman's question]
Nope, it's all free. No fine print, no strings attached. Other than the fact that most of the food options suck and the clothes aren't much better.
[if Liv is paying attention, she'll notice that George is not really dressed for the weather, being in a tshirt and jeans with a pair of ratty Converse sneakers. but the chill doesn't seem to bother her one bit]
no subject
It just shows up? No ordering involved?
[Liv isn't dressed much better, not even having a proper coat, only the blouse and lab coat that she had had in the morgue, although it doesn't seem to bother her either.]
no subject
It shows up as long as Hope is here. He's the one who provides all of the cool shit around here. Too bad he's a raging douchebag.
[fun fact about being a Reaper: left to their own devices, they'll eventually chill down to the local temperature, whatever that is. she knew a Reaper who got stuck in the morgue for an entire day because they mistook her for a dead body]
no subject
[Because that is something that Liv is interested in. After all, how many alien gods has she met? She can tell you that the number is zero, on both accounts. Well, at least she hasn't met any that she knows about. Considering she is a zombie, it may well be plausible that other things do exist.]

The gods didn't include personal assistants on the phones... and there's no internet, sorry. Just the network.
[ Deep breath. ]
Hey, Liv.

Drake.
[Shock mingling in her voice as she glances up from the device. And she is speaking before she thinks about it, although it's not like she is confessing to being stuck in the middle between him and Justin in her bed. That had been awkward.]
I had the strangest dream about you. And here you are.
no subject
[ They've got lots of other things to talk about. He will tell her one thing he neglected to before, although he did say it when she was here briefly a few months ago -- and keeping track of what she'll remember is going to get confusing -- giving her a once over and a small smile. ]
You look so different, tanned and dyed. Think you're gonna keep it up here?
no subject
[Liv nods slowly at that. Or is it something else that Drake is talking about? Liv can recall the dream, fleeting as it is, but if she focuses, the pieces are there. It had been a sense of serenity that had been all around her, as if nothing could or would touch her. That's gone now. She's back to her normal self, whatever that really is.
It takes a moment, because she isn't usually one to do that, but she lets a little breath out.]
I honestly don't know. My face was in the paper, so I didn't want to look like me. But, it's not like that is here, right?

Better than dragons.
[When she clips his elbow as she runs past, he gives her a look.]
Stay back. Dunno what it's gonna take to get these trees to back off.
[But judging from the way he's dressed in his red paladin armor, and raising his sword, it's apparently time to find out.]
no subject
You're going to fight a tree... with a sword?
[But hey. She supposes it is as good as a hatchet, maybe? Personally, Liv would like a chainsaw in her hand.]
no subject
[Debatably reassuring words to put that skepticism to rest. The tree's approaching fast though, and that's the end of that conversation.]
Run if you're worried. Exit's back there.
[Quick jab of his thumb in the direction of the exit, then Keith runs forward, bayard-sword in both hands. Altean weaponry being what it is, the blade itself can cut through steel like it's cardboard and really, the fact that this isn't your typical sword is pretty obvious when he's able to slice clean through the trunk. The Territorial Oak topples, but then....
You know that moment when you realize something was way too easy, and you realize your problems have just gotten worse? Yeah. Well. The tree sure is starting to glow red and orange like it's going to--]
Run!
[Total tonal shift here as Keith starts sprinting towards Liv and the exit.]
no subject
It's not exactly worried, although okay, she is. She can die, but the chances of it being something that is actually going to kill her are slim. Make her go on full-on zombie mod may be a little more likely... She has taken a step back, not really wanting to leave him there, but when the tree does start to give off light...
She doesn't need a second round of encouragement, giving one glance back before she's running, a few paces behind him.]
I take it that it's not supposed to do that?

Well, no one seems to work here to check what we take so I'm assuming it's free.
[And the rest is... gibberish. He doesn't know who those Siri or Alexa are but he doesn't seem interested in asking about them.]
No internet here, at least not as I know it.

Liv can say that there is a certain reliance on technology that is missing in this place. She does like having information at her finger tips, or most information, anyway. Some things have been a first for Liv.
She does look towards the shelf, before turning her gaze back to him.]
It just feels strange... Like you're stealing and someone's going to pop out and call you on it.
no subject
The man shrugs opting to take the back and shoving a few items inside, food doesn't seem to be scarce but having supplies is always a priority.
Well, we're the ones who have been stolen from their own houses in the first places.
[He's.... not really happy with the current situation, really, and it shows.]

[Emphasis on the last two words, as it makes it sound like this is a door that is living and sentient. Then again, the guide hadn't really explained too much about the door, other than the fact that it had brought them here. By who, though?
Liv, at least when she is just herself, isn't really much of an eye for an eye person, although she does also have strong morals and has come across multiple dilemmas since being turning. She frowns a little, as she doesn't really need anything currently on the shelves before her.]
Have you been here long?

[The comment pulls her attention away from the pile of clothes she was looking through to see if there were any other sweaters or jeans or something she could shove into her apartment. She doesn't need a big variety-it's an emergency situation and supplies are limited, but laying around in grubby dirty clothes is the worst.
She doesn't stand up from the spot and turns her attention away from the weird bedazzled jeans in her hand to the woman behind her.]
Guess they'd owe us a lot more for the kidnapping. It'd probably even out. I wouldn't worry about debt right now.
no subject
They being these gods, or they being the ones controlling the door?
[The guide had covered some things, but Liv has more questions, and she somehow suspects that the answers aren't going to be forthcoming. Everyone seems to agree that you can't leave, which is already troublesome, but is at least a point that all seem to confirm.]
no subject
[She taps a finger against the side of her face. Pointing the finger and laying the blame somewhere is shockingly difficult. All things considered, it's probably-]
More the door, I guess. Don't think these gods have control over it either. It's probably, like, its own entity, you know? Either way, it owes us big time.
no subject
[A question that pops in to her mind then and there. From what she has read, which is rather limited, but at least there had been something, it seems that this door brings everyone here. Why not them as well?]
