Intro Log: Ugh, Talk to the Hand

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for February
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: February 10th-14th
Warnings: None

Welcome to Hadriel. Your first glimpse of your new home is maybe not the most welcome - you awaken on the floor of the colosseum, surrounded by sand and walls and... trees? Yes, trees. Along with you and the other newcomers, a number of Territorial Oaks have arrived in Hadriel. They look just like normal trees, except for those welcoming smiles - oh, and they don't like you at all. They move fast, hit hard, and if you manage to bring one down it'll go out in a large, dangerous explosion. This may have you rethinking your stance on clear-cutting.

While you're trying to avoid the trees, you might come across a few of the other things the Door has deposited in the colosseum for your (its?) entertainment. Namely, a bunch of toys that no one has played with in years. But maybe one of them will tickle your fancy?

Once you've finished indulging your 90's nostalgia, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers February 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[Tyki had no intention to be prickly, unpleasant, or arrogant. A lot of the newcomers have very little grasp on technology, or don't know to check the system. It's usually a good starting point.

He sighs. Teenagers are so difficult. Even the nice ones.]
I meant no offense, lad. [He might have asked someone, for all Tyki knows.] It is small, but the size can be altered. Just pull the screen to increase the map size. It's give you a better look at it. [While he's trying to be helpful, pull might be a confusing way to put it. But he's from the Victorian era, and although he's learned a lot about phones, he's still a newbie himself.]

[ Riku looks a little surprised at how the man qualifies what he'd said as meaning no offense, but he appreciates it, letting his shoulder slack as he looks back at his phone. His brows cross again, but he's listening. ]

'Pull'?

[ It's a little confusing, sorry Tyki... Riku isn't Victorian, but they didn't even have technology like this when Riku was exposed to the simulation of a Town.

Riku taps the screen until he's back at the map again, but he just seems to be sliding one finger down the phone screen again and again. He has to be doing something wrong. The screen isn't changing. Help him... ]

It's hard to explain. Here, I'll show you how it's done.

[Tyki pulls up the map on his own phone, and shows it to Riku. He could probably just show him on Riku's own phone, but he's not going to push boundaries with a strange teenager. And when he sees that Riku looking, he pulls the screen with his fingers, the map increasing in size because of it. And then he reverses the motion, to make it small again.]

Does that help? It's tricky at first, but these things are useful enough when you get used to them.

[ Whoever this person is, they seem harmless enough. Riku takes a few steps forward to watch the screen, squinting. His eyes go wide when he makes sense of the "pulling" thing. He tries it out on his own phone and it works perfectly.

He frowns at it, scratching at the back of his head. Why didn't he think of this... ]

It does. [ He looks back to Tyki and nods, offering a small smile. ] Thanks. Guess it's not hard to tell that I just got here. [ He looks down at his phone again. ] And there's nothing like this where I come from.

[It's one of those things that just doesn't make much sense unless you understand the context. Tyki's glad to have helped, a little at least. He's certainly not a paragon of Hadriel's morality and usefulness, but he does his best from time to time.

It's just easier when he does it by killing monsters, not by socializing with newcomers.]
You're not the only new arrival, at least. And hardly the only one who didn't have cellulars where they're from.

[ Riku can't talk about morality himself, though he is trying to be better too. And a lot of that has to do when killing monsters. They already have things in common wow! ]

There's that, yeah. Sounds like you've had time to get used to them if you don't have these back home. [ He lets his phone rest at his side. ] How long have you been here?
such_a_teez: (♣That was weird in that order)

[personal profile] such_a_teez 2019-02-22 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
[It's complicated stuff, that morality business. Especially when you're the sort of person with something entirely immoral inside, something twisted and seething, waiting for the chance to strike.

Tyki thankfully has his dark side well enough under wraps for now. But it still lingers and threatens. And his stay in Hadriel has made it both easier and harder in turn to actually control him.]

I've been here a few months. It took me a couple of weeks to actually get used to the thing.[He honestly can't remember what month it was when he arrived. Or if it matters at all, in the end.]

[personal profile] meteorcrash 2019-02-26 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ If Riku were to ever hear about an immoral dark side that this person can't seem to control, he would greatly sympathize. For now, they seem like just another person he might meet from a world different from his own. ]

I think I might end up in the same boat you were on. [ He pockets his phone. ] I'm Riku. Thanks for the help... [ Name? ]
such_a_teez: (♣I'm running out of memes already)

[personal profile] such_a_teez 2019-02-26 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Think nothing of it, Riku. [Tyki offers a small smile.] Tyki, Tyki Mikk.

[personal profile] meteorcrash 2019-02-27 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Tyki. I'll remember that. [ And Riku offers one back! Though it's gone fairly quickly. ] Nice to meet someone friendly after what happened when we showed up. I don't think the newbie guide didn't really mention this... Are there always exploding trees when people end up here?
such_a_teez: (♣I cuddle scientists when drunk)

[personal profile] such_a_teez 2019-02-28 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
The exploding trees are new, I'm afraid. I think we had giant scorpions last time. Or perhaps it was the time before that? It all keeps blurring together, after you've been here a bit it'll be routine. [At this point, he can't keep track of all the creatures that arrive, all the events that get thrown at them, it just starts becoming muddled. He should probably start taking notes, for the newcomer's benefits.]
