Welcome to Hadriel. Your first glimpse of your new home is maybe not the most welcome - you awaken on the floor of the colosseum, surrounded by sand and walls and... trees? Yes, trees. Along with you and the other newcomers, a number of Territorial Oaks have arrived in Hadriel. They look just like normal trees, except for those welcoming smiles - oh, and they don't like you at all. They move fast, hit hard, and if you manage to bring one down it'll go out in a large, dangerous explosion. This may have you rethinking your stance on clear-cutting.
While you're trying to avoid the trees, you might come across a few of the other things the Door has deposited in the colosseum for your (its?) entertainment. Namely, a bunch of toys that no one has played with in years. But maybe one of them will tickle your fancy?
Once you've finished indulging your 90's nostalgia, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers February 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Matter-of-factly or not, hearing that someone's father stabbed them to death is not something a Disney boy expects to hear in any circumstance. He's probably never heard about something like that in his life, Keyblade Master or no, and it shows in the slightly horrified expression on his face. ]
It wasn't- It wasn't his fault? [ That's... difficult to process, somehow. How do you stab someone, but it isn't your fault? Riku feels his stomach clench. ] What do you mean?

but she should apologize. judging from the expression on his face. maybe he's from a better world than hers, where what happened to her would be unthinkable.
if so, he's lucky]
It wasn't. It really wasn't. [definitely from a kinder world. but she doesn't envy him for it, she's grateful that they exist in the first place] He'd been possessed by a demon for as long as I can remember. The demon couldn't possess me, so he wanted me dead. He couldn't kill me himself, so he made my dad do it. It's okay, though. I ended up here. Here's better.

Yes, Riku is from a much kinder universe—and one he almost lost, thanks to his own actions. He's been possessed himself before, but not by a demon, though Ansem may as well have been one. He knows how terrible it is, how awfully it affects the people around you, but somehow, even plunging your world into Darkness doesn't seem as terrible as being forced to kill your own daughter.
He looks towards the ground. ]
Still wish it was under better circumstances. [ He can at least say that, right? He looks back at Laura. ] I'm sorry. Was there any way your dad could be saved?

Twin Peaks was like a large rock in the forest. it looks solid and placid on the surface, but you lift it up and see the vermin underneath. but not everybody comes from a place like that, and she should've been more mindful of that. damn. another mistake. she'll try harder next time.
earnestly] It's all right. It really is. Coming here was the best thing that could've happened to me. [she gives him what's mean to be a reassuring smile] I don't know. I hope so. He's a good man, he deserves better.

Her smile is a good way to lighten up and hopefully away from the subject. Her returns her smile, though his seems more apologetic. (He also has to keep who they're talking about straight in his mind. It's hard to keep track, for some reason.) ]
I'll take your word for it. I hope he did too. For now... I think it's good that you're alive.
[ He realizes belatedly, though, he doesn't even know this girl's name. He pushes a hand through his hair. ]
I'm sorry for bringing that up. It's probably not the greatest thing to remember.

she's learned how to put on a smile for the masses a long, long time ago. she was perfect Laura Palmer, straight A grades, dating the local football hero, the homecoming queen, beloved by all]
So do I. Life comes with so many possibilities, y'know?
[and she doesn't know his, either. whoops? at least that she can do something about]
No, it's okay. I've had a long time to get used to it.
Anyway, I'm Laura. Laura Palmer. What's your name?

Then I'll hope for the possibility where he turns out okay. [ He puts a hand over his chest. ] I'm Riku. Nice to meet you.
[ Albeit in a place like this. Wherever this is. Riku notices that he hadn't thought about it until right then. (Or had he?) ]
Except... [ He suddenly looks troubled, looking up towards the temple's pillars and ceilings. Then he looks back to Laura, brows furrowed. ]
Laura... Do you remember how we got here?
[ She might remember how she got here. Somehow, Riku's thinking that she might know how he got there too. ]

[she follows his gaze to the temple and her expression turns a touch grim. for the most part, the gods do their thing and she tries to resist, but it's not always easy]
No. I died in my world and woke up here. Why, do you?
[she doesn't know if anyone remembers how they came here]
no subject
I... No, I'm sorry. I think I'm asking the wrong question. [ And again, he's sorry to have her bring up something tragic, no matter how content she is with the situation after so long. He places a hand on the temple pillar beside him, looking past his shoulder into the depths of the temple. ]
I meant this place. Where is this, again? [ He looks back to Laura, a little imploring. ] I think I was looking for the Clinic. But this can't be it.
no subject
Oh? You are? Then, shoot. [she watches him carefully. he seems like a good young man. absolutely out of place in her world where only the guilty and corrupt seemed to prosper]
It's a temple. It's Confusion's temple, so I wouldn't recommend hanging out around it too long. [she gives him a genuine smile] I can lead you there. Just follow me? [and she makes a gesture onwards]
