Welcome to Hadriel. Your first glimpse of your new home is maybe not the most welcome - you awaken on the floor of the colosseum, surrounded by sand and walls and... trees? Yes, trees. Along with you and the other newcomers, a number of Territorial Oaks have arrived in Hadriel. They look just like normal trees, except for those welcoming smiles - oh, and they don't like you at all. They move fast, hit hard, and if you manage to bring one down it'll go out in a large, dangerous explosion. This may have you rethinking your stance on clear-cutting.
While you're trying to avoid the trees, you might come across a few of the other things the Door has deposited in the colosseum for your (its?) entertainment. Namely, a bunch of toys that no one has played with in years. But maybe one of them will tickle your fancy?
Once you've finished indulging your 90's nostalgia, feel free to look around. You can explore the rest of the city! Find a house, a new monster, a project to help with, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers February 10th-14th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

[ he digs right in, but eats at a more respectable pace this time around, allowing him time to speak between mouthfulls. ]
Can't complain about the hospitality, and food's an improvement.

[she's not quite sure where she's supposed to be looking while he eats. looking straight at him would be weird, but avoiding him would be weird, too. so she mostly does little sidelong glances on occasion mixed with finding the wood grain of the table absolutely fascinating.
she smiles at him] Here's . . . kinda weird? But not so bad, once you get used to it.
no subject
How long does that take?
no subject
Ehhh, three months, give or take. Your first stupid gods trick will probably knock you for a loop because you're just plain not used to it, but it's possible to. . . I don't know. Get used to it? Kind of? Though, that part will take a lot longer, but basically if you're feeling a particular emotion really strongly? It's probably the stupid gods' fault.

What's their story? Why are we here? Why us? [ he's never been particularly emotional, in truth, he's made an art out of swallowing down his feelings. as the eldest of four (five, including steve, which he always does) he was expected to solve problems, not have them. ]

Story is, there used to be a ton of 'em, all across the galaxy. And they had these subjects they called "hosts." The hosts were able to feel any emotion in huge quantities at will, so the gods were well-fed.
Then, these assholes called the Null decided they weren't happy with the whole peaceful coexistence thing and went around slaughtering all of the gods on other worlds and all of their hosts. Except it turns out the Null missed some here. Go figure.
But anyway, they thought they had no more food source and all but Hope and Fear were dead, so they used the Door to start recruiting people. Only we have to be forced to feel a lot of one particular emotion at a time. Hope and Fear used all of their energies to revive a set of stupid gods who had been killed while we were here and the rest is history.

Recruiting, that's a nice word for it. [ too nice. he volunteered to fight for his country and his values. others had to be drafted. but they still were informed, and had time to say goodbye to their families. this isn't recruitment, this is a prison camp. ]
So they're farming us? [ it's what it sounds like. they're barnyard animals, here for their uses - and to be consumed, in the end. conditions in this prison may be better, but in the end, he suspects, he may yet miss the doctor's ministrations. ]

It's better than "kidnapping." Which it actually is, but sometimes this place works out better than home. [strangely, it did for her. she found a purpose in the Clinic and she found friends--real friends--for the first time in her life. she feels like she's finally ready to let go of her old life and move on to something new]
Basically, yeah. After you've been here a while, it becomes easier to--I don't know. To recognize what's going on and try to fight it. [which she can usually manage by this point, but she's had two years' practice]

What happens when you get good at it, they leave you alone? [ somehow, he doubts it. his gut twists. ]
no subject
Not exactly. More like, you're able to kind of recognize the fact that your head's being fucked with and sort of think your way through it. It's not one hundred percent effective, but it does help. [nothing is ever simple here]
