August 15th; It's a Spooky Party!

Who: Castiel and YOU. ALL OF YOU.
What: It's a party! It was going to be a fun game of Twister party, but now it's a spoopy party. This is a massive mingle, so please feel free to write your own starters! And feel free to jump on the party game headers as well, or include them in your starters too!
Where: The bar!
When: August 15th
Warnings: ALL THE WARNINGS. No, I lie. Alcohol, truth or dare, people falling on each other, scary stories maybe and snogging in a closet. And talking about feelings. Please add your own warnings to your comment thread headers and I will add them to the list!

Whether or not the lights were off, Castiel was determined to go ahead with his plan to cheer up the residents of Hadriel, and get them interacting with each other. He'd made his plans a week in advance, and when it came right down to it, the idea of whether or not he would allow Fear to get in the way of having fun was practically moot. Of course he wouldn't. It was far simpler to be oblivious, far easier to overcome fear - at least his own, if not the god - with amusement, and companionship.

It threw a bit of a monkey wrench into his plans, and was, it had to be said, particularly devastating for his personal party trick in particular. How would his "pull my finger" joke work now? But he was determined to soldier on, and that meant that the bar was taken over by an eager angel, complete with food that had been collected from the orchard, and around the town, a pack of cards, a bag full of pebbles, a bunch of sticks with tiny carvings on them, and as much paint as he had left over from his aborted attempt to redecorate the Winchester apartment.

Not much of a party, but that was what guests were for. And party games. And alcohol, obviously--that was why it was being held at a bar.

So maybe they'd have to bring their own light, and perhaps people might take advantage of the spooky mood and audience to tell some of those stories that Fear wanted people to share, or to play horrid tricks on each other...but so long as things didn't turn into a remake of Cabin in the Woods, Evil Dead, or House on Haunted Hill, they were probably fine. Actually, scratch that, so long as it didn't turn into any horror movie ever, they were probably fine.

But then, with Twister, Truth or Dare and Poker (any of which you can add "strip" in front of and they will be infinitely more fun) as available gaming options, perhaps it was a horror movie already.

Prove it.

[If he's going to claim he can do it then she's just going to ask for proof. So far all evidence points to otherwise after all. And this is with her actually trying to have a civil conversation with him at one point.]

Yeah I tried that we ended up having yet another fight and you telling me to stay away from you.

[Really, this again?]

I also told you to answer your damn phone! You seem pretty happy to pick and choose what I say that you actually listen to.

[Partially. But when she answers she soundd tired more than annoyed and her voice low.]

We both know it wouldn't have made any difference if I had.

[ Ai just sighs and pushes away from the wall to leave. She just needs to reach around him for the knob amd slip out.]

What, you're psychic now? You can read minds? You know for a fact exactly what I wanted to say?

[Mello shakes his head, unseen, listening to the sounds of her movements in the dark.]

You're entirely full of shit, Ebihara. That's what you are.

Not but it must not have been all that important or you might have actually brought it up when you found me by the river.

[ Well at least he won't fight her on leaving. Though he does have to deal with her moving closer wrap her fingers around the doorknob. Snapping at him as they keep talking.]

And you're so full of glorious purpose right? God get over yourself Mello, you're no more special than the rest of us.

[It's the wrong thing to say - or maybe the right thing, depending on whether she intended to provoke the reaction that results, which is that Mello is on his feet in an instant, grabbing for where he estimates her shoulders are, backing her roughly against the nearest wall. His voice drops to a low, menacing growl.]

You know exactly what my purpose is, Ai.

[To be a sacrificial pawn in the endgame between him, Near, and Kira. To be dead.]

And it's a hell of a lot more important than anything an empty-headed girl like you could even imagine.

[It was definitely the right thing to say. She is always going to think it's the wrong choice. There had to be other ways; he was just ignoring them or something.

She's surprised that he feels that need to push her against the wall. Like she hasn't said as much and worse to him before. Nothing makes now any different than before this argument. She misses that he uses her name at first continuing on like he'd addressed her no different than normal.]

It's a dumb purpose.

[And to be honest she doesn't understand why it matters at all. Except she was glad that Narukami stopped her from jumping off the roof. And she wonders if he really understands what he's willingly giving up instead of finding an answer that lets him live. ]

Get over yourself no one will remember or even know. That really isn't your style.

[Everything is different now, since he's been killed and resurrected. Living through your own death is an incredibly difficult experience, one no one should have to survive - there is a difference between coming back from death's door and actually going through it to the other side. Everything is different, too, since he kissed her, betraying weakness in the truth that he feels anything about her, that she matters to him at all. This would be so much easier if she didn't matter to him, if she could brush off the sting from her words that tell him he's wrong.]

No one is supposed to know, you idiot!

[No one except Near, and he'll only remember it as long as it's useful information. Mello forces out a hard, bitter laugh, tightening his fingers around her shoulders.]

You don't know a thing about me, Ai. Tell me, can you possibly conceive of a situation where you're prepared to give up everything - everything you've ever worked for, everything you ever cared about - to make certain that you affect the outcome the way you want? Don't you fucking dare tell me to get over myself when you can't even imagine being part of something bigger than yourself!

[ If betraying she has any meaning to him is something he's worried about, he can stop. Ai has herself convinced that the kiss was a tactic; meant only to shut her up and nothing more. It is single handedly responsible for her being cranky and easy to irritate when their paths cross, even when she intends to be civil. It would almost be easier if Mello were anyone else when he kissed her.]

Don’t call me an idiot.

[ It's instinctive to snap at him. Less instinctive to shove her balled fist into his gut as hard as she can but she's sick of him pushing her around. Sick of him calling her stupid and acting like he is so much more ingelligent than she is. She doesn't even have the emotional stamina left to at least feign concern or surprise that she punched him.]

Dying doesn't make you part of something. It removes you from the equation entirely. But I have been willing to, though I'm sure you would tell me it doesn't compare to you forcing Kira's hand to save the world so you go ahead look forward to dying back home and I'll just let you get on with it.

[Somewhere in the middle of her mini speech her voice got thicker like she was about to cry. If there had been more light he would have no problem seeing the tears rolling down her cheeks as she furiously tries to wipe them away. It shouldn't matter that he's all set to die. Hell he shouldn't matter with how much of a jerk he's ever been to her but it does and it hurts. And the fact that for some reason she cares is hard to swallow easily considering how much she hates crying in front of people. It feels a lot like she just let him win and she's never going to recover that ground.]

[She may not be surprised that she punched him, but Mello sure is. The impact of her fist in his stomach is like being thrown into an ice bath, shocking him silent except for quiet wheezing as he staggers backwards, doubled over with his arms wrapped around his stomach, and struggles to regain his breath.

Death removes you from the equation, she says, and Mello thinks that's maybe the most perceptive thing he's ever heard come out of her mouth. She's not wrong, but there's also a bigger picture to be considered. You can't solve an equation without subtracting and dividing some of the parts.]

I'm not looking forward to dying. You really think that's what I want?

[God, he could laugh right now if it wouldn't hurt. When does he ever get what he wants.]

Don't you think if that were true, dying once would have changed my mind about that, even a little bit? Do you really think I'm so blind that I can't see what I'll be leaving behind?

[Mello isn't suicidal. He's driven. There's a difference.]

[Well he didn't kind of deserve the punch as far as she's concerned.

Sometimes you solve it by adding things into it too. It's rare but it happens sometimes.

Ai merely shrugs in response, not that he can see it. She doesn't know what he wants, and every time she's guessed he's gotten mad. So she's either really bad at guessing or really good, she can't be sure of which.

She's tempted to ask him what he he wants. What is he leaving behind just to satisfy her curiosity. To maybe gain some snippet of understanding, but she's already made up her mind. She's resolved to comply with his earlier request and stay away from him as much as she can possibly control. There's no point in asking if she's just going to leave and once more she wraps her fingers around the doorknob.]

It doesn't matter, we won't be talking or interacting much to at all from here on.

Fine. Leave, then. I'm not stopping you. But it'll be a cold day in Hell before I actually believe you're going to keep your mouth shut.

[He slides back down to the floor with his back against the wall. It's fine. She can leave. She should leave. This is better for both of them.]

Shut up.

[And she is leaving. Staying put when they're both just not good company for each other doesn't seem like a good idea at all.]
