Intro Log: Don't Wake Tonberry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

► This log covers September 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

"You can try. It might help." More than likely not, but so long as the man had hope, far be it from him to destroy it. He would be here to help when he finally broke and gave up, too. At least, that's what seemed to happen to everyone else.

"Just because we can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Maybe it moves, maybe it's controlled by something and only appears to them at specific times. It doesn't matter. Whether or not we can find it, it's still there. What happens now?" Flick was a problem solver, the har people usually turned to for a logical, sane approach. At least here, even with a possibly unsolvable problem, now he didn't have to think about his own issues.

"Yes, faded to Fade and fading, too small and silent to see. I can be too." He knew all too it didn't have to be seen to be there. But in order to use it, they had to find it and to find it they had to see it.

What did they do now? Aside from trying to survive until they were released?

"Then we untie them. Make visible that which is unseen." Flick offered Cole a hand. "Come on. Let's get out of here. This doesn't seem like the best place for this conversation." He looked toward what might be an exit. At least of the immediate area.

"It's unseen for a reason. Maybe we shouldn't see it." Secrets weren't always harmless after all. He couldn't know until he knew what was hiding, but it was hidden so he couldn't find it. It was all a circle.

"That's true....sometimes secrets kill." Flick couldn't help thinking of Orien, hanging from the rafters of the Nayati by his guts. He didn't it was possible for there to be so much blood. It was everywhere.

"Yes." He paused there for a moment, head canted to one side as he watched, staring more through than at Flick.

"The blood bled and bleeding, the sight like sorrow. How could there be so much of it? Did it all come from him? There's too much, taste of rust and regret in the air." A pause, than he seemed to come back to himself.

"Why was he up there?"

Flick stared at Cole in horror, realizing he was picking up on his recollections sometime. Aru. Flick licked his lips, he could still remember the stink, the blood had gotten everywhere, the floor, his clothing. Specks of it were on the sheets. He'd gone back to bed after he saw it the first time. Couldn't handle it. Flick burned the sheets. The knife, he'd thrown it in the Soda Lake.

"....No, don't bring me back there."

He stared for another moment, quietly observing. It was an awful thing to see--he needed help.

"Sorry. But I can see it because it hurts. I can make you forget if you'd like."

Flick thought back to the year he spent in the desert with Itzama. Cole was so like some of the beings he met there, in a way, and yet, as different as they come. He leaned forward to kiss his cheek.

"Thank you. I've already gone down that path. I drank from the Well of Memory. No, our pain makes us who were are."

"But it shouldn't hurt forever." That's how people got stuck. That only made it worse and it was even sadder to watch.. Especially when he can hear everything.

"I want to help."

And Flick was in danger of getting stuck. He'd almost been able to move on. Not get passed it, but move on. When Wraxilan came and Flick made that one mistake, asking for help from the wrong deity, or perhaps not being specific enough in his plea. And now, everything felt broken. He was scared and he was tired of being scared.

"What did I do wrong? I keep thinking it's past, and then something bad happens again and there's more pain. Is that just life?"

Re: Flick | Open

[personal profile] fadeling 2016-09-23 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, sometimes." He hated that part. Life outside the Fade was always so much more complicated than it needed to be. It made people scared just to be alive and that wasn't fair to anyone.

It shouldn't have to hurt, but it did. It always did. That's why he was there.

"But it isn't you. People hurt other people. They try to tear and take because they hurt too. It's all the tangles and the ties tied tight like tying."

"It's growing pains I think. We're too young." Flick put an arm around Cole, craving physical affection. " We're like children. We think we've changed, that we're really more enlightened, but really? We're just more dangerous."

He froze at the touch, but didn't leave. He wasn't used to being so close to someone else, but if that's what he needed, then...

"People are small, sometimes. Spirits too."
