Intro Log: Don't Wake Tonberry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[Miriam claps excitedly. Yay! Barnaby gets to have his fun. Baby boy's been so good lately, he deserves a treat.] Barnaby, go get 'em!

[The dog lunges forward with a growl and attacks.

What happens next is...efficient.]

Well, that's... that's something, all right. Faith does as promised, standing at the ready in case the dog needs her help, but nope, he makes quick work of destroying the little monster.]

Huh! Lookit that. [She laughs.] What a good pup! What's the cutie's name? I'm Faith!

[dogsanddaughters]

[Barnaby gives the dead thing a good shake, tail wagging. Miriam just giggles.] That's Barnaby. King Barnabas. My main man. 'sup, Faith. You're pretty.

[It's important to make a good first impression.]

[avephoenix]

Oooh, what a good name! May I pet his majesty?

[And then a pause -- this girl is cute! She definitely deserves such a good dog.]

Why thank you! So're you! What's your name, then.

[dogsanddaughters]

You can! If you're nice. [Miriam bats her eyes.] You are nice, aren't you?

[Maybe, maybe not. It's not important. It's important for Miriam to seem nice.]

And I'm Miriam.

[avephoenix]

Course I'm nice! Or well, I do me best to be. [She crouches down and holds a hand out to Barnaby.] But why don't you be the judge, King Barnabas?

[It's true. You can get a lot out of Faith if you seem nice, though don't let the cheerfulness fool you. She'll get suspicious eventually, and probably sooner than you think! You learn, once you've been burned as bad as Faith has been.]

Nice to meet you, Miriam. Y'new here too?

[dogsanddaughters]

[Barnaby holds his paw out to be shaken, ears pricked curiously. Miriam watches, smiling.] Me? Nah, I've been here a while. Folks come and go. Kinda like the monsters.

[avephoenix]

[Barnaby is too cute! Faith shakes his paw and downright giggles.] What an honor, your royal highness!

[Once she lets go of the paw, Faith turns to Miriam.] S'what me friend Kate tells me. D'you know Kate? She's got pink hair, hard to miss.

[dogsanddaughters]

[She's playing along! This is great. Miriam likes her already.] Kate? Oh yeah, that weird lady everybody's mad at!

[Miriam pauses, considering how best to play this.] I'm not mad. She never did anything to me.

[avephoenix]

[Faith frowns and tilts her head a little.] Why're people mad at her?

['Everyone' is clearly an exaggeration, but it still means that a) people are mad at Kate, and b) it's more than a few people.]

[dogsanddaughters]

'cause she made a monster and it killed people. [It's said quite casually. Miriam shrugs.] Got that soldier lady and her friend runnin' the guards. Not so smart. Hope she doesn't do that again.

[avephoenix]

Did she now!

[Kate... what have you been going through that you made a monster. How does that even work.]

Won't let her do that again!

Haven't met them, soldier woman and her friend. They came back, though, yeh? Kate told me Hope brings people back.

[dogsanddaughters]

[Miriam wrinkles her nose.] Yeah, probably shouldn't let her do that. People kinda took it personally. Even if they did come back.

[avephoenix]

Can't imagine why. [The sarcasm is tempered by a smile. Faith gets it, people's anger. She just wishes the anger weren't directed at Kate.] I'd better go find her and make sure she's not doin' anything like that right this minute.

[The odds of that are extremely low, but she does want to get back to her friend. Faith has missed her.]

See you and his majesty 'round, yeh?

[dogsanddaughters]

[She likes you, Faith. you're cool.] Yeah! Yeah, we will. Stay alive and shit, yeah?

[avephoenix]

[She likes you too, Miriam! Have a giggle.] Same to both of you!

[With a wave at Miriam and a curtsy at Barnaby, Faith heads off to find Kate.]
