Intro Log: Don't Wake Tonberry

What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[ a sore spot. hmm. that's a piece of information to tuck away for late. in the meantime she stares him down. ]

I am not a sweater. I am strong. And soft. and - fine. [ and expensive, but she'll leave that unsaid. ] And that's why my name fits me. It's the name my parents gave me. The meaning's important. But most importantly it's my name.

And the funny thing is, king or otherwise, we're both here. Wonder what we did to deserve it?

Nobody did anything to deserve this.

[Richie doesn't know much about where he is, but he feels confident in his assessment.]

Whatever pulled us in, whatever... force [he's not sure what else to call it] doesn't know what its doing. Maybe we're both real pieces of shit, but so are a lot of other people and I don't see them here.

[64th]

[ she scowls. she thinks it's easier to accept that this is punishment than it is to accept that some sort of random event that's pulled her from her old life. as much as she hates being disagreed with, she has to laugh when he refers to them as pieces of shit. ]

I prefer heartless bitch but piece of shit works too. And don't be discourage, maybe you'll get lucky and someone you hate will show up.

That wouldn't be hard. I hate everyone.

[Well, not everyone, but it's close.]

So as one piece of shit to another, how many people here do you find tolerable?

[ she hates people too! look how much they have in common. ]

Hmm. Well, tolerable? I can tolerate a lot more people than I like. A quarter of everyone here? Some of them are more tolerable on the network versus in person.

[hornrims]

Yeah. Tolerable's a way easier sell than like. [as he scrunches his nose in distaste deep lines form around his mouth] I don't know about that whole network thing. For finding shit out yeah, I can see it as a useful tool, but I've already seen way too much empty noise.

[64th]

[ she laughs again. yeah, she can see how he might not be delighted by the mess that is the network. ] Josh called them shitposts. It's kind of fun. [ Cash is pro-trolling, which likely surprises no one. ]

You just have to look through all the garbage in hopes of finding the helpful parts where people accidentally say something useful. And you get to know everyone's business and I don't see any problems with that.

[hornrims]

[Richie's face grows even more unpleasant, eyes squinting while creases form around them and he forms a pronounced frown.]

Don't know a Josh, but shitpost sounds right. What's the point of knowing people's business? It's not important.

[64th]

[ she makes a face right back at him. don't be a stick in the mud, Richie. ]

Yes it is. How do you get ahead without know what's up with everyone else? Do you just cross your fingers and hope it all works out?

[hornrims]

You get ahead lots of other ways. Learning skills to better yourself. Not pussying out in a situation. Being smart enough to notice opportunities when they arise and being quick enough to take them. It's more to do with you than anyone else.

[He does have ambitions of his own kind, and what Richie lists have been his own methods. This one is very much a stick in the mud.]

Knowing people doesn't help. So what, you know who's screwing who. That doesn't matter when you're working toward a goal.

[64th]

[ Cashmere scoffs. ] I know how to survive and win, but thanks for the tips.

But you're not here in a vacuum, and if you don't keep an eye on everyone you'll get caught by surprise and it might not be a good one. [ mostly he'd miss out on emojis and dumb games but she has to admit there's useful information now and again, especially about the monsters. ] If you want to figure everything out on your own, who am I to stop you?

[hornrims]

Nobody wins at surviving. You just survive. [He imitates her scoff right back.] And I didn't say I wouldn't use the network at all, I'd use it when it's useful. But nobody's trying to kill me so I have no use for stalking them.

[64th]

You do if no one else survives. [ which is not the case here, but it is the world she comes from. ]

But how do you know what's useful? [ this is a pointless thing to argue about. that isn't going to stop her. ]

[hornrims]

[Time to ride out the pointless argument train!]

If it's about something concerning the city. A threat, or some kind of change. I don't care about what someone had for dinner or who is in a fight with who.

[64th]

[ it's so nice when two people can find a hobby they both enjoy. ]

So are you psychic? You're just going to know when something important is there? That's really impressive. Maybe we should just appoint you Mayor. We don't have one of those, but you seem to know best and you can read things without reading things - so we'd be stupid not to, right?

[hornrims]

Maybe I am psychic. [That's not how his visions work and he knows it.] You don't have any kind of power here, not you or anyone else. You know damn well a government wouldn't fly. Yet everyone, and from what you've said you too, are more than happy to jump when the gods say jump.

[64th]

I don't think you are. [ she's easily worked up, and Cashmere huffs again. it's true that she doesn't have any power. it's also true that she either does what the gods ask or just stays out of the way. everything he's said is true, and it was true at home, too. ]

I know what i'm doing.

[hornrims]

And I don't think you do.
