Intro Log: Don't Wake Tonberry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

Yeah. You too.

[Except he knows she isn't, not at home anyway; Emily had told him what she'd found in the mines, and Mike and Sam had told him what they'd learned while trying to find Josh. Still, that wasn't what she meant and he'll pretend it isn't what he means either.]

It's uh, not. But it could be worse, too, so...

[So they just kind of have to deal.]

Have um, one of the others explained everything to you yet? You've seen Hannah, right?

Yeah, Hannah found me. There was some weird monster.

( But not the monster that had chased them. A lot smaller and definitely less frightening, especially after Hannah had pulled them out of there )

She told me about this place but it's a lot.

( It's as much the fact that she's somehow not dead as the fact that she's here at all. That they're all here, that a year has happened for the rest of them. And more monsters. So many monsters )

How does something like this even happen?

( She's not actually expecting an answer )

I um, must've missed you; I was hanging out near the coliseum, but sometimes it's just kind of crazy on arrival day.

[With lots of new people and the monsters and all that, and although he'd been there to help he's also not interested in getting immediately shanked and so had been kind of cautious this time. He feels a bit guilty about that now.

He knows her question is more rhetorical than anything else, but he shrugs and tries to answer anyway. Sort of, at least.]

I dunno. It still seems crazy, even after ten months, but uh... I guess sci-movies and other dimensions and whatever aren't as totally unrealistic as we thought.

Yeah. My dad would get a kick out of this.

( Well, even he'd probably be freaked out about it all but after that he'd probably enjoy the sci-movieness of it all and probably use it for a plot )

God, I can't believe you guys have been here so long. I'm sorry.

It'd make for a good movie idea, yeah.

[He shrugs a little at the condolences, offering another small smile.]

It's okay. I mean, it sucks, but there are worse things. We're um, just sort of getting used to going with it.

[We being him and Emily, anyway.]

It'll be a little less uh, jarring and whatever within in like a month or so.

[If she's wondering.]

Maybe.

( Part of her hoped that it would be, but at the same time that felt weird, as if this should or could be normal. Maybe getting used to it was the only way you could cope )

Does it get worse here?

[Chris hesitates a moment at the question, but there's no point in lying to Beth. Not only would she probably see through it right away, but she'd just find out herself soon enough.]

Um, yeah. It can get really bad sometimes, depending on which god decides to screw with us.

Why does that matter?

( She's not totally getting the 'gods are real and maybe gods' bit yet )

Well um, they all need different emotions from us. So it's pretty okay when it's Hope or Delight since they, you know, want us to feel hope and delight. But it gets kind of not-great when it's Fear, or Rage, or Sorrow.

[Though mostly the first two.]
