Intro Log: Don't Wake Tonberry

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

[ There is little reluctance to admit they are better as a team. It is merely fact. ]

Do you have powers like Kate's?

[It's okay. Faith wouldn't force anything on her, just leaves that door open for Wanda to walk through if she likes.]

No, though we're both superhumans. I'm more... [How to explain being a phoenix without bringing in the lore and legends of their people?] Combat-oriented, powers-wise. I can make fire, and I can heal others, and my body heals itself.

[That's good enough, she thinks.]

What's your thing, then? [What sort of powers does Wanda have?]

[ Her warmth is inviting. Wanda opens her palm, a small orb of red energy floats in it. ]

It is called neuroelectric interfacing. I use it most often like telekinesis. I can also see inside your head.

[avephoenix]

Ooh, look at that. [Forgive Faith the wide-eyed amazement on her face.

Even at that last bit.]

Right, you must get this a lot, but d'you mean literally inside my head, like my brain and all of that, or my thoughts?

[This is an important distinction.]

[scarletcast]

Your thoughts.

[ Her mouth curves, lifting in a smile. ]

[A-hah! A smile! Faith wondered if she'd get one or not.]

What's that like, then? Noisy?

[scarletcast]

Sometimes.

Yours is... warm.

[avephoenix]

Oh? [Faith gives a chuckle.] Must be all that fire. Back home, I'm what they call a phoenix.

[And there's no sense trying to tuck away the thoughts that accompany that, the facts about how rare a phoenix is and how they're legendary, about what people expects of her and how Faith fulfilled those expectations because she wanted to, because her goals happened to align with those expectations, not because she thinks she's inherently better than anyone else.]

Must be.

[ Like it is an obvious fact, instead of being the real warmth of Faith's personality. People like this are too few. ]

What are you expected to do, where you're from? Kate did not say much about her world, but I understand people with powers can be isolated

[avephoenix]

[It wouldn't really occur to Faith that even without her powers, she's something of a rarity, so she really does believe it's the fire. She's used to people thinking of her as a phoenix rather than as a person.]

Oh, good things, mostly. [She shrugs, like it's nothing at all, being Named, being legendary, destined to greatness, all of that. (More like, she doesn't pay it much mind.)] Big, dramatic things.

[Which, to be fair, she did do, just with a lot of help.]

[scarletcast]

[ She smiles wryly. ]

Great expectations?

[avephoenix]

[Wanda's smile sets Faith at ease, and the tension of having someone new learn so much about her in their first conversation eases off of her shoulders.]

Yeh. [Snickering, she shrugs again.] It's not so bad. [Sort of.] People listen to me. Easier to get good things done that way.

[Though really, the people who think she should be served and revered make her more than a little uncomfortable. That's a bit much.]

I like bein' strong enough to help people. Feels good, making people smile.

[scarletcast]

[ Sincerity upon sincerity. It is impossible to scoff at such goodwill when Wanda knows how rare it is. ]

You would see this place as a learning experience then.

[avephoenix]

[It's just... Faith can't imagine being any other way. Life's done a number on her, but she's okay. She's got all she could ever need. Now she can look after others.]

Isn't everything that?

[scarletcast]

[ Wanda huffs. ]

Sometimes suffering is suffering and nothing else.

[avephoenix]

Guess that's true, yeh. [Her parents' death comes to mind. What was the point of that? Just an accident.] Still, doesn't mean you have to suffer.

[scarletcast]

I will be contrary if I wish.

[ Lightly, so neither of them are mired here. She has no desire to drag out Faith's history or her own. ]

Have you found a place to live yet?

[avephoenix]

[With a little laugh, Faith's grin is bolstered.]

Yeh, 'm staying with Kate in one o' the spires. [She hasn't bothered learning the number yet. She will when they get there.] Who knows, maybe we'll be in the same neighborhood!

[scarletcast]

Maybe.

Do you know where it is? I can walk you there.

[Faith shakes her head.] Yeh, show me!
