Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for September
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: September 10th-13th
Warnings: Cute monsters, a way to pass the time, and plenty of newbies!

Waking up in Hadriel certainly has its down sides, but if this weird murdercave city is good at one thing, it's keeping people entertained. As you awaken on the hard ground of the colosseum, you might see a rectangular cardboard box lying near you. Ignore it for now, as you get your bearings, but if you get bored? Well, you'll find these exciting and unique board games will keep you entertained!

But how could you possibly get bored, when there are plenty of cute monsters around to keep you company? Sharing the colosseum with all the new arrivals are Tonberries. In addition to their natural cuteness defense, they also carry very large knives. They're slow-moving and look innocent and even friendly, but be careful - one strike from that knife and you'll be a bloody mess. They won't attack unless you get too close, but who doesn't want to hug a Tonberry? And of course, if you attack, they'll counter with extreme prejudice.

Managed to resist the urge to hug a Tonberry? Safely escaped from the clutches of the colosseum, new board game in tow? Awesome! Feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies. Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!

she can safely say that's the first time someone has done that to her knife. Kate breathes out through her nose, dips into the bag at her thigh and pulls out a plaster, offering it to him. )

Aye. Long story. Best talked about outside of here.

( shall we? )

[He accepts the bandage, wrapping it around his finger and pressing the adhesive into his skin. Richie isn't good at taking hints, but she is straightforward enough in her suggestion that he understands.]

Yeah. Sounds good.

[Richie begins to walk in what he thinks is the right direction. If it's wrong he assumes that she'll do some course correcting pretty quickly.]

What's your name anyway?

( nah, you're good. the tunnels are this way. )

Kate. You?

( she glances to the side every so often, just in case anything advances, knife still at the ready. )

Richard. Richie. [Both are correct, and in the interest of wanting to be right he gives her the complete answer.] The only time I get called Richard is when my brother's pissed off at me about something.

[Taking his cue from her, Richie holds his own knife close. It seems like more than coincidence that his previous environment and this one has included fighting alongside someone named Kate. It's a common enough name, but the universe has its way of pulling people in certain directions.]

Last Kate I knew wasn't nearly as good with a knife. [a chainsaw tho...] Are you used to killing or something?

( she gets that, although, unlike Richie, she doesn't bother with adding Katherine. it's not relevant. ) Nice t' meet you, considering th' circumstances.

( that question tho- she actually snorts, just a little, under her breath. well. ) Helps you stay alive down here.

( she was used to it even before then, but all the same.

That wasn't what I asked.

[His words aren't forceful. Just slow, matter-of-face, observant.]

There's adaptation and there's something familiar. Someone new doesn't come as prepared as you did.

( fair point, but all the same. ) Not new. Been here... six months now, I think.

( she thinks because the entire time blurs into one another when you have no calendar. tracking the time by the door, by whatever system Bruce has figured out - something, but not enough for certainty.

she glances down the tunnel as they walk through it, answers the question with her eyes towards a turn that doesn't lead out. )

... I was used to it before that.

So was I. There's nothing bad about it.

[Why else would she dodge the question unless she felt ashamed? Protecting oneself, eliminating an obstacle, silencing the voices with a blood sacrifice if only for a minute -- all were perfectly acceptable reasons for ending a life.]

Why else would I have turned up in this place with a gun and a knife already on me? [The question's rhetorical as he matches her stride.] Anyone who doesn't think it's necessary hasn't ever had their life threatened. And those people can get fucked.

( some worlds - or perhaps personal moralities - aren't quite as simple. there are deaths she caused she doesn't regret, but not enough of them to balance out the others.

(and - whether it's acceptable or not - it will never be easy to end the life of someone possessed.) )

Point. ( those people exist because of the things she used to do. ) You need more bullets, you're gonna have to talk to one of the gods.

( that's a better topic than the philosophy of killing, surely. )

[The method of distraction works, as Richie would much rather discuss practicalities than vagaries. He frowns, and mentally takes note of the weight of the weapons on his person.]

Well they can get fucked too. What do they require, blood sacrifice and a vow of silence?

( Richie, you're gonna fit right in here, judging by the smirk that plays over Kate's lips and disappears. (and look, they're out of the tunnels now, into-

well, into a cave. but it has better lighting than the tunnels. so that is something.) )

Monster corpse. ( well, technically, a corpse, but Kate doesn't know that. she just goes with monsters. )
