If your first thought upon waking up on the cold, hard ground of Hadriel's very own Colosseum is 'maybe I partied too hard last night', one, Delight would love you and two, you're wrong. Or- maybe you did, but that's not why you're here. Instead, you wake up with the same clothes you were wearing when you were last home, but surrounded by very different people. So, make some friends! Might as well voice your confusion and concern and show the technologically unsavvy of you how to operate these fancy new phones, right? Just be sure not to trip over these odd bags of chips on your way to greet your fellow man.
Don't spend too much time out in the open, though. There are monsters about, and not quite the usual ones. This month, Hadriel is bringing in four dragons, each with their own unique abilities and raidboss-esque stamina. They'll be terrorizing the city until someone puts them down- maybe that someone is you! Maybe you should, uh, actually hide. They're hungry and territorial and mean and they're definitely out for a good meal. Check out our OOC post for more information, as well as who will be eventually killing the beasts!
But hey, once you escape from the dragons, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies.
New, as of October's intro log is a Newcomer's guide that installs itself by default on every activated phone. Thanks, Mello!
Good luck, and enjoy your stay in Hadriel!► This log covers October 10th-13th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well!
► All characters arrive with phones that have network communication and the newbie guide installed.
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!

Kain Highwind | OTA
[There are a few problems here, as Kain comes to on the chilly floor. It's an unfamiliar place, though that's not quite as troubling as it ought to be. After all, this would be the second time he's found himself in some strange new world. At least his memories are more or less coming back into place... he remembers home just as vividly as the gods' war. What's really troubling him is that he shouldn't even be here, alive. He comes to one conclusion as he gets up.]
This... is the afterlife... isn't it?
[The other problematic thing is that he's never seen a phone in his life, so the odd device he has on him... won't be of much use yet. He frowns at it, unsure where to even begin.]
2. Dragon fighting
[The roars he hears in the near distance are unmistakable. Dragons. They sound agitated too. Maybe that's why he's been brought here... to fight these dragons. He wouldn't be surprised, after all, Cosmos had called him for a purpose too. At least he has his lance with him.]
[Kain spends his early time in this unusual world exploring his surroundings and stalking after the dragons. If he sees anyone being threatened or in need of some back-up against the winged beasts, he'll take to the air from a distance, jumping high above and soaring down from seemingly out of nowhere to stab at their foe. A man in draconic armor saving others from dragons... why not?]
Thought you could use a hand.
3. DRAGON SLAYING [ooc: feel free to help him out here, but he'll ultimately be dealing the killing blow!]
[It's the black one that's caused him the most frustration, so it's the black one that Kain is targeting now. The battle is intense, with Kain barely staying long on the ground as he continually jumps to attack... and evade those terrible claws. Even so, there are some close calls, and he's getting a bit banged up in the process. Kain isn't deterred. He keeps on fighting, slicing and stabbing powerfully with his weapon. There's a deadly sort of gracefulness to how he moves in the midst of this fight... it's clear he's in his element here, that he knows what he's doing.]
[He growls as he slices his lance into the dragon's side mid-air, yanking the weapon free as he descends toward the ground. It won't be long now, but this dragon isn't going down without a fight...]
no subject
[Well, he needs all the help he can get, and if it takes the help of a combat moogle to take this beast down, so be it. He'll have to thank him afterward. Kain flips around in the air to come stabbing straight downward at the dragon from above, pummeling it with his spinning Sky Rave attack.]
no subject
[But when they're getting closer to death can often be when dragons are at their most dangerous and unpredictable.]
[Kain descends to the ground, and has a brief instant to notice the dark moogle has crash landed. He gasps, seeing the dragon's claws coming right for his furry ally. Swiftly, he springs into a shorter jump, closing the gap to leap to his defense. The dragon's claws slash down, and while he mostly blocks it with his lance, he takes a hard hit in the process. He grunts, sending a Cyclone at the dragon in retaliation.]
Can you get up?
[If not, he's prepared to do what he must, probably help him out of harm's way at least.]
no subject
[But she's also taken down and clawed at the dark moogle, and he's not about to just let her make a snack of him. So his next move is to jump, flipping around and landing near Shadow with a growl of pain. Yeah, no, that doesn't feel good. But this is all the more reason to fight all the harder. He's determined, seeing this as a challenge that he must conquer. He'll face this dragon to the bitter end. The gods' war... it's really changed his outlook, made him more reckless than ever...]
[Better get that moogle out of the way first... Kain reaches down to pick him up, taking another jump to bring them out of the dragon's current range.]
no subject
[There are a lot of others around the area, and there's bound to be someone around with magic, right? So he shouts for help, knowing that someone else will be better equipped to help him than himself. He's no healer, and he has a dragon to finish off. He's sure the moogle will pull through. The roars coming from the dragon are more pained sounding anyway, and he knows it could just be a matter of time for her.]
I've no potions on me, or I'd spare you one. If you hold the wound closed, that should help until a white mage comes. [He's sort of been here and done this so many times himself that he knows what to do for one's self, anyway, but that's as far as his knowledge goes. Kain came here with no supplies left, exhausting them in the battle before.] Thank you for your help back there. I've never seen a moogle fight, very impressive.
[Yeah, he's still mistaking him for a moogle, an extra spiny one. Kain nods, then turns and leaps back into the battle.]
[It's still a tough fight, even with the dragon on her last legs. Jumping skyward, Kain pummels her with a rising drive, this time spinning upward from below her. His blade whirls into the dragon's hide, cutting into vulnerable spots where she's been weakened previously. He follows up fast with a midair Cyclone, the winds rushing in to further injure and toss the dragon off-balance. The dragon thrashes, its massive tail waving and almost smacking him. He lands, jumps again, and repeats this a couple times, aching more and more with every move... Finally, he sees an opening and takes it. A vulnerable area, right in the neck... and the dragon isn't so fast to protect herself now.]
[One more jump. Kain hurls himself upward and then comes in for an impressive landing upon the dragon, slicing straight into her neck. She tries to roar, shaking as she plummets to the ground.]
Colosseum
[Miriam peers down at the new guy. Weird armor. Probably gonna think he's in hell in a few seconds. Not that Miriam can really blame the dude. Hadriel takes some getting used to.
Barnaby noses the man's boot curiously, tail wagging cautiously.
She doesn't offer him a hand up, but does prod him with her foot.]
Probably don't wanna stay there, though. Stuff might've died there.
no subject
[Kain trails off, realizing how utterly insane that must sound. I did die. He's sure of it. They'd all died, one by one, collapsing in that final battle. Glancing up at the girl and her dog, he takes the hint, dragging himself up off the ground. Somehow he's intact... this is so surreal.]
Forgive me, I'm not even sure where I am or... how it's possible.
no subject
[Not yet, at least.]
I mean, stuff might kill you later! But not right now.
no subject
[They're his gods, or at least the ones he assumes are behind this. A new arena to fight in, perhaps. Another battle. Maybe they were lied to about their deaths being permanent, after all...]
Before I came here... [He raises a hand, looking at it in disbelief, still taking some time to process being alive again. He's almost disappointed, since death did mean the war was finally over for some of them.] I fell in battle. I didn't expect to revive for another round of war.

[Lovely. Just what he didn't want to hear. After endless cycles of conflict, to be thrown into yet another place where he's a gods' pawn... At least this time he has his memories intact.]
I can handle a fight if it comes to it, but... what sort of things? Monsters?
no subject
Damen was nice. She misses him.]
Dunno if I'd call it a war, but there are monsters. Dead men walking and hungry things. They live in the caves. But the dragons are new. They're big.
no subject
[The dragon-like armor is probably a give-away, after all. He's in the right place at the right time... it would seem.]

Splattered from head to toe -- or gorget to sabaton, as he wears full plate over mail -- in a mix of blood and dust, his hair damp with the sweat of exertion, Henry makes a somewhat grim spectacle as he approaches. Yet his expression is bright with the high of victory. His heater shield remains on his left arm, and his arming sword is still unsheathed in his right hand.
He inspects the dragon's corpse with interest before his gaze falls on the one presumably responsible.]
Your work?
[Henry asks with interest, pointing at the dragon with the tip of his blade.]
no subject
[Not to mention, this has been the weirdest way to be introduced to a new world, ever. Though Kain has his doubts, wondering if any of this is even real... or if he's in the next life or... what. Someone he'd met had told him it very much wasn't that, but how can he be certain? He'll brood over that later, though.]
[He'd gone over to see the black moogle disappeared. Then he'd returned to the dragon. That's where he is now, looking it over, considering what might be salvaged. Some scales for certain, and he'd like to get a claw or two for a keepsake. There's a certain pride dragoons take in this sort of thing...]
[He glances over when he's approached, nodding.]
For the final blow, at least. [Plenty of others had taken a strike or more at it before that point of the battle. Like that moogle, and he noted there were other injuries on the dragon too, from earlier attempts to take it down.] Dragons are formidable creatures, magnificent even, [There's respect in his tone, a respect he could only afford to an enemy like a dragon.], and it takes a lot to kill them.
no subject
I would call their kind terrible over magnificent. Though I agree that they are formidable foes.
[He turns his attention away to peer at the wound from the killing blow, and gives a nod of professional appreciation. Anyone can wear fine armour; it is no promise of skill. But it is apparent that the killing blow involved impressive technique.]
Hm. You appear to know what you are doing.
[He remarks, looking thoughtful.]
no subject
[Kain is definitely one of those types who does that, affords a great foe a certain level of respect even while at the same time trying to stab them to death. He nods slowly, glancing over at the dragon.]
I've trained as a warrior my entire life. We dragoons specialize in aerial combat, and dealing with dragons. It seems I arrived at just the right time.
no subject
Henry turns back, for good this time.]
Aerial combat? 'Tis a pity that I missed your fight.
[He is not entirely sure what that entails but it intrigues him. He decides to introduce himself.]
Henry Percy, a knight of England. I also belong to the Guard here at Hadriel. Perhaps we might be of interest to you. Ever do we seek more capable fighters willing to battle the beasts which endanger us all.
no subject
[And Kain is always more than willing to show off his skills. There's definitely an assurance to his attitude when it comes to his fighting skills. It's the one aspect of his life where he has complete confidence.]
I'm Kain Highwind, knight of Baron. Good to meet a fellow warrior. [They had all been warriors in Cosmos' fight, but it seems more of an unusual mix here. These gods have differing motives, things he's still trying to figure out. As for what Henry mentions, he takes a moment to consider. Kain cannot stand being idle, having no purpose... this would certainly give him one.] I would be interested... tell me more about this Guard.
no subject
Whilst monsters are normally restricted to the caves beyond the colosseum you would have awoken in, that is oft not so during the regular crises that plague us and those days on which The Door opens each month. As only a portion of our residents are able to fight, we formed the Guard to provide an organised martial defence. We run daily patrols, and when incidents strike, take prolonged action to shield the people here from harm. We keep permanent headquarters not far from the Armoury.
no subject
[There's a lot to get used to here, but he's determined to do just that. At least he's used to fighting, that's something he knows, something familiar. It'll give him that sense of purpose that he needs.]
The Guard sounds exactly like something I'd want to be involved in. You could count on me to defend the people of this place.
