Intro Log: HOLY F^K THAT'S A F&KI%G DRAGON

Who: New arrivals and everyone else!
What: The intro log for October
Where: The colosseum and all around the city.
When: October 10th-13th
Warnings: New faces, new greeting posts, and dragons. What's more to want?

If your first thought upon waking up on the cold, hard ground of Hadriel's very own Colosseum is 'maybe I partied too hard last night', one, Delight would love you and two, you're wrong. Or- maybe you did, but that's not why you're here. Instead, you wake up with the same clothes you were wearing when you were last home, but surrounded by very different people. So, make some friends! Might as well voice your confusion and concern and show the technologically unsavvy of you how to operate these fancy new phones, right? Just be sure not to trip over these odd bags of chips on your way to greet your fellow man.

Don't spend too much time out in the open, though. There are monsters about, and not quite the usual ones. This month, Hadriel is bringing in four dragons, each with their own unique abilities and raidboss-esque stamina. They'll be terrorizing the city until someone puts them down- maybe that someone is you! Maybe you should, uh, actually hide. They're hungry and territorial and mean and they're definitely out for a good meal. Check out our OOC post for more information, as well as who will be eventually killing the beasts!

But hey, once you escape from the dragons, feel free to go explore the rest of the city! Find a house, find a new monster, or simply scavenge for supplies.

[Is this a thing children do? Oh, Maketh knows he's not technically a child, but Connor still feels insanely young to her. She wonders if she was ever that much trouble to her instructors.]

That is hardly your concern.

[There's a low tone in her voice, warning him not to go further.]

[connor puts his hands up in an "i surrender" gesture]

Okay, I got it.

[She narrows her eyes, watching him a moment.

Good. He understands the rules.]

If you have less foolish questions, ask them now.

[he is actually capable of asking good questions, luckily. working for annalise made them a necessity.]

The guide said that people had spoken with the gods - they didn't get any meaningful answers from them?

[Maketh nods just once. So he's quick. Despite the shock of arrival and whatever foolishness he felt like engaging with, Connor knows enough to zero in on the important information. Interesting.

Perhaps he'll be of use after all.]

Information was received. Very little can be verified and nothing prevents them from lying.

Yeah, that's what I would be afraid of too. Have people met with them in person or was this all done over the internet?

[he is working to be a lawyer he has to get some skills from that]

Always over the phones.

[Maketh nods, pleased.]

It's unclear if they even posses physical bodies. Thus far we've found no way to hurt them effectively.

So it's even possible it's all just a hoax anyway.

[there's something interesting in how she phrased her last statement, though]

You guys have tried hurting them? Why?

Possible. Nonethless, the effects are clear.

[Maketh narrows her eyes.]

As one retaliates against an enemy that harms them, of course. Should we take torture lying down?

[connor shakes his head]

No, I don't mean that. I didn't word it very well, it's really more of a multi-part thing. [foundation, walsh. get it together.] First, I guess I'm still thinking about the part where not all of the gods are necessarily negative emotions. Some of them even seem to be in opposition? Like hope and fear. Do they all act against us?

[he pauses. he should give her a chance to answer, not just bombard her with questions, he knows that.]

If they don't have physical forms, though, how did you even make the attempt?

They are in league with each other. We are food to them and nothing better. Our survival is ensured only because we are useful.

[Maketh's opinions about the gods have never been subtle.]

An attempt was made to force them to show themselves by attacking their temples. It was ill-planned and had adverse reactions.

Great.

[she may not be subtle, but it's easy to believe her when he's had so many lessons about learning not to trust people even when they act like they want to help. why should gods be any different?]

So regardless of whether or not they are who they claim to be, they definitely are powerful.

Without question.

[Maketh inclines her head slightly.]

They have brought us back from the dead before. It's not a pleasant process, but it is within their capabilities. They have enacted containment measures around the caves so we cannot leave, and often engineer events to generate whatever emotion they require at the time. Yes, they are powerful.

So is there any actual good news?

You are alive.

[Maketh doesn't smile.]

If you are alive, then you can fight. That is the only thing that matters.

Fighting all the time isn't much for living.

[Maketh inclines her head slightly.]

Accept your reality or wallow in denial. Quite frankly, I do not care which. If you are clever, then you may be of some use to me. If you are not, then I will do my best to keep you alive nonetheless. That is all there is to know.

I'm pretty sure I already flunked the guardsman aptitude test.

[which he really doesn't care at all but:]

There's more to life than those things though. Like, that's really noble of you but you should get out there and do non-noble things, you know? Get drunk and do something stupid you regret in the morning or sleep with someone you've never met before.

[Maketh narrows her eyes. He's no guardsman, that's been made clear, but he is clever. Perhaps too much for his own good.] You presume a great deal while knowing very little about me. Do you truly think that wise?

[connor shrugs]

People make a lots of assumptions about other people. Just because they don't voice them doesn't mean they aren't there.

Wisdom is the better half of discretion. [Maketh cocks an eyebrow.] Especially when the target of your observations is armed and you are not. I will indulge your foolishness if I must, but others will not be so accommodating. I hope that's understood.

I'm pretty sure you're not going to shoot me after going to all of the trouble of saving me over a comment like that.

[he should stop there. she's made that real clear. and yet]

It's really not that big of a deal.

[She could punch him, Maketh thinks. Just once, in the stomach, and then he'd be quiet. No one would have to know!

But, no. Standards. She has standards now.

Maketh just rubs her face. Connor is going to be an ongoing annoyance, she can just tell.]

If you are going to ask questions, at least make them intelligent.

We did the intelligent question part already.

[She just gives him a look.]

Clearly you are capable of looking after yourself now. I have patrols to run. Try not to die in the meantime.
