Event Post: Everyone Chill

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for Tranquility's resurrection event!
Where: All around the city
When: December 27th-January 7th
Warnings: Absolutely nothing creepy or weird at all.

The revival of Tranquility on December 27th marks a vast - if temporary, and actually completely fake - change to the city. Upon awakening that morning, the inhabitants of Hadriel will find the city changed from its usual broken-down dour cave self into a sparkling, clean, delightful island city. Instead of being surrounded by hard stone walls, the city is surrounded by warm ocean waters and soft white sand beaches.

Gentle waves lap at the shore, the sky overhead is perfect, wide and open. The spires have been replaced by shining skyscrapers, the roads are clear of rubble and paved neatly. The stores are quaint, windows no longer broken, and the items inside have changed too. Instead of simple canned goods and strange clothing, you might find delicate pastries, cool drinks, fresh fruit, and flowy summer clothes to match the city. How nice! How calming, really. Didn't everyone need a vacation? So throw on some flip-flops, grab one of the mopeds that have been provided, and enjoy yourselves!

As the days go on, though, you might notice one or two odd things. Maybe the pretty sun hat you picked up looked, for just a moment, like a grubby old baseball cap instead. Maybe that beach ball is a little heavier than it should be. Maybe the shining wall of that skyscraper feels more like stone than glass. Maybe - just for an instant - the sky above was solid rock instead of the gentle, calming hues of the sunset.

While there is a mild compulsion toward calmness and tranquility, towards accepting the city for exactly what it seems to be, that can be ignored - and the illusion can be broken, if you choose to try. But do you really want to? Isn't that croissant much nicer than yet another can of beans? Wouldn't you rather relax at the beach than run around, trying to convince all your friends that this is just the gods getting inside their heads again in an even more creepy and all-encompassing way than usual?

Come on. Don't be a buzzkill.

[Oh you sweet summer child.]

Well, sure. Sorry to burst your bubble, guy, but I'm pretty sure it isn't much of a sky. If it was, I wouldn't be around. Ghosts and sunlight aren't really the best of buds. Well, my kind of ghost, anyway.

Is that so? Do you haunt this world, then? [That... does explain a thing or two, anyway.] Well, I'm hardly an expert on ghosts... but... I still thought it looked real enough.

[He glances up forlornly at the sky, upset by the deception. Now it just doesn't feel the same.]
sunsetsitter: (did we make the headlines)

These days, sure.

[She drifts down so it's like she's lying on her stomach, chin propped up on her hands like she's any other teen girl.]

Yeah, it's a real bummer how easy it is to fool you guys. This is some heavy-duty misdirection, though! Even I'm having a hard time with it. Hell, maybe you're not even real and I'm chatting up a rock. How's life, y'handsome boulder?

[It's so weird to get used to. Not the concept of undead, at all, but just the notion of carrying on a conversation with them. Kain watches her curiously.]

I certainly hope I'm no rock. [Though god, Rydia will never let him live it down if she hears of this. She often remarks on his stone-like temperament, after all.] I'm entirely real... and you...? 'These days?' Does that mean you were pulled here from another world, the same as all of us? [It's a strange concept to consider, but... well, anything could be possible.]

Very real, very spectral. Very used to this whole "mysterious city in the middle of nowhere" nonsense... It's my second one, wouldn't you know?

[She offers him a smile.]

You know, if you were a rock, the bump to your noggin wouldn't have hurt so much. It really was an impressive crash...

[personal profile] dragoon_pride 2017-01-07 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Is that so? It's my second time being pulled into another world not my own...

[Kain rubs at his head a little, it's definitely going to be quite the bruise. Ugh. He glances up and nods agreement.]

Well... I can't deny that much. It's been a long time since I've fallen like that... Of course, it's not normally from the sky being an illusion.
sunsetsitter: (are there any aminals in here)

[personal profile] sunsetsitter 2017-01-10 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah? Rad, dude, I'm not alone in that!

[Exciting!! And gives her some hope about seeing some familiar faces again. Maybe it was more common here, somehow.]

Your leadup was pretty good. Still not super sure on your reasoning for all that, but good!

I didn't think it had happened to anyone else... you're the first I've met.

[He'd have expected to see others from the gods' war, but it apparently isn't meant to be. He rubs his head again, owww this headache will last a while.]

I'm a dragoon, I belong in the sky. I thought... I was just enjoying a jump, I thought it would be fine. I should have known this was all too good to be true. A trick of the gods.
sunsetsitter: (okay but let me tell you a thing)

[personal profile] sunsetsitter 2017-01-20 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Perhaps someday, buddy. That's the hope Izabel's clinging to.]

That doesn't mean a whole lot to me. But it sounds cool? [Maybe when everything's back to normal she'll bug him into going to the place with the highest ceiling and showing her.] Not a fan, I'm guessing?
dragonsgrasp: (how regrettable)

[personal profile] dragonsgrasp 2017-01-20 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, right... We dragoons are knights who fight in the style of the dragons. That jump I'd tried is our specialty.

[He sighs as he glances up toward that false sky. It looks so realistic, it's hard to believe it's just some illusion.]

I've never been very fond of caves. I can handle them, when I know I won't be in them for long... this place is far from ideal.
sunsetsitter: (chillax bro it's cool)

[personal profile] sunsetsitter 2017-01-20 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Uh...huh. Yeah, our dragons don't...do that.

[She's never seen one in person, but they can't be that much different than what she knows about them. Definitely not aerial creatures. Izabel rolls onto her back and folds her arms behind her head so she can watch the fake sky, too.]

Soak up this trick while you can, I guess... [She hums sympathetically before continuing,] We're kinda birds of a feather with that, too. I mean, not caves specifically. But I hated being stuck on my planet when there was a whole world out there.
dragonsgrasp: (can you see me up here?)

[personal profile] dragonsgrasp 2017-01-22 09:00 am (UTC)(link)
At least your world has dragons. [It's more than he can say for some worlds that people here come from, but he's definitely more curious than usual as he considers that.] And what do you mean, they don't do that? Do they not fly?

[Kain is interested in learning all he can about other worlds' dragons, it's one of the things he can relate to.]

It's good to hear that I'm not alone in that feeling. To be trapped is a terrible feeling, one I wouldn't wish upon anyone. Yet here we are. I suppose we'll have to make the most of it. [Though he sounds doubtful about that.]
