Event Log: Patron Gods

Who: Everyone participating in the event!
What: The event log for the Patron Gods event!
Where: All around the city
When: March 15th-March 20th
Warnings: The gods choose you! Whether you choose them back is your call.

It's March 15th! Whether or not you've been having a good or a bad week, the gods decided to get together and put all the characters on teams- just like in those gym classes that you always skipped! Whether or not you were the last one picked is up for debate, but until we can figure that particular mystery out, there's another one to mull over... namely, who left that mysterious note in your bedside table/shoe/fishtank? And how did you get a friendship bracelet twined around your wrist?

Regardless, when opened, the letter will say-

'Congratulations! You have been chosen! [God name] thinks you're a great fit for their team! All you have to do is spread their emotion, and you'll get a blessing - and if your team wins, you get the grand prize: one (1) request for each member of the team, no payment required! Or you can band together and request one big thing, it's all up to you! So find your allies, get started, and let's win this thing!'

Whether or not this is for real becomes immediately obvious, as you seem to find yourself yearning to cooperate with your teammates, and maybe feeling a bit competitive toward your foes. Grab a squeaky chicken or a creepy doll or a snowglobe from the shops if you like, and let's get inspiring! Of course, you aren't forced to participate, but have fun telling your teammates that nobody is going to win their wish because you decided to be a stick in the mud.

Go forth and spread joy! Or sorrow, or scare people, or just really piss them off- but whatever you do, try to have fun and build that sense of community! You're going to need it...

► This log covers March 15th-March 20th.
► Feel free to make your own logs as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► If you're just so mad at the gods that you'd rather die than participate, then let us know here!

Alphys? God, Kate needs to catch up on meeting people. The furrowed brows should be enough of an indication that Kate doesn't know who Marian's talking about, but if she's not looking, then Kate adds.

"Weren't looking for anyone. Thought this place were abandoned since Hermann and Newt disappeared." In other words, she was just curious about the lights coming from inside.

"Oh. Yes, Alphys decided to look after it in their absence, and I had been looking for a good space to work for a while, so... here we are." And between herself and Alphys there is definitely a lot more in the way of piles of dismantled/waiting to be dismantled electronic and mechanical salvage.

"Did you know them?" she asks, more out of practicality than polite conversation. "If there's something that you want, it might still be here. And in fact I encourage finding a new home for whatever things are in the fridge."

"Somewhat," she answers, taking on that explanation with a nod. It's good this place is getting used, after all the work that went into building it back when. Then there's a shrug and Kate shifts over towards the fridge, grabbing a conveniently placed sheet of plastic.

Maybe some of it can be used as fertiliser? She has no idea how that works but maybe.

"What're you working on?"

There sure are some gross things left in there if Kate's brave enough to venture into the fridge. Marian sure isn't -- one look, and that fridge has stayed closed since.

"Who are you again?" Marian asks first, turning away and straightening up her desk a bit, sorting some of the pieces she' already taken off the device she was halfway through dismantling. If she's going to be pestered by every nosy so and so wandering past, she can at least get a name first before explaining anything.

"Kate," comes the answer as she swings open the door to the fridge, bracing herself for whatever's inside, a sharp intake of breath as the remains are revealed. Not pleasant, never is, although remains are a damn sight nicer than any actual dissections.

"Guessing they were researching the creatures in here. They leave any notes on that?" It's nothing she could do anything with, personally, but there are many people here. Maybe someone would like to pick up where they left off. With so little to go off, the only thing left to grasp at is straws. Maybe something in these monsters would provide a lead. She doesn't know, but at the very least, they're something that provides a fighting chance to people if they go in the caves.

She hesitates for a moment before tossing the remains onto the plastic sheet. "Prob'ly too old to use as samples."

"A reasonable assumption, given they seemed a little more inclined towards the biological sciences based on what they left behind. I didn't want to touch those... things... in case they came back," Marian explains, still very much not looking over that way and continuing to tidy up her work area. Of course there's the other reason too, that even monster gore is definitely not something she wants to see...

"Anything they left that isn't relevant to anything Alphys and I are working on is in the back room." She sounds a little less certain about that, though. The place still is a bit of a cluttered disaster, but it's better than when she got here.

Before any of that, Kate bundles the sheet up and heaves the thing off the floor. Dead weight, ugh. She'll be glad to find this a place to decompose in peace, because the weight will surely start digging in after a while of walking around. "Get these out of your way first..." Kate then pauses, realising she doesn't know this person's name. "What's your name?"

"Dr. Marian Tenebris," Marian makes sure to say pointedly, filing the last few chips and electrical tidbits into the appropriate little boxes on her desk, then, at a loss for what other busywork will keep her from looking at the slightly rancid monster bits, settles for flipping through a few pages of her notes. "And to answer your earlier question and forego further needless discussion, at the moment all that can realistically be worked on is getting this place in good enough shape and amass enough supplies to even be able to consider working on a real project."

Although she has one in mind, suffice to say Hadriel isn't exactly a technological goldmine, and getting going could really take some time.

Oh boy. She catches that pointed tone, has heard it before from people back home. I went through medical school, therefore I am the most qualified apprentice - a tone taken all too often by people Dagny tutored in using their healing powers. Hell, it's part of the reason she liked Jon so much. He was one of the few who didn't point out his medical school training at any opportunity. One of the few who didn't dismiss her as incapable in this field because of reasons on top of reasons.

She bristles inwardly, but bites her tongue. It's not quite annoying enough on its own to let her neutral expression slip but her eyes look just that little more focused and sharp, glinting in the light. "Place were hard enough to build in th' first place." She remembers helping out with that, back when. "Might be worth askin' people to help find things you need." Although with the way technology seems to work in Hadriel - that is, just that little bit off and weird - whether those things can be found is another question entirely.

Kate's got the tone nailed. From Marian's point of view, it's a bit hollow pointing it out here of all places, when qualifications and achievements hardly matter, but some things are just ingrained after decades.

"I've made some modest attempts, but most of the people and creatures here seem more interested in 'magic' than any technological endeavors. And before you go suggesting that I make a deal with the gods for materials, I don't deal with those kind of... entities." Her voice is hard on that point, vehement.

After all, she'd known someone that thought he could, all for his own selfish reasons. And that's not a path she wants to go down.
