Warnings: Bears, made of bear meat. Possibly bear attacks. General confusion.

You awaken on the sandy ground of the colosseum. Its half-ruined walls rise around you, stretching up to the sky - or what passes as the sky, as instead of blue sky and clouds you'll only see a rocky ceiling far above, with a bright source of light illuminating the cave.

Where are you? What are you doing here? Who are all these other people? Pressing questions, but far more pressing right now are the giant, hungry dire bears who seem to have appeared here along with you, and who are now waking up as well. And boy, do they not seem happy about it.

Once you've fought, run away, or successfully hid from the bears, you've got an entire city to explore. Sure, a lot of it is in ruins and it's totally empty, except for you, your fellow arrivals, and the bears, but there's things to be found and stuff to investigate. You can even find a house to live in if you're one of those fancy types who prefers not to sleep on the streets.

Unfortunately, one thing that can't be found at first is food. Hopefully you brought some with you or you managed to kill a bear or two, because the city is entirely empty of food until the 13th of October, when you will awaken to a gift of food on your doorsteps. Some of it might be strange-looking and alien, but hey, at least it's edible, and you didn't even have to kill anything to get it! Someone's feeling generous. After this, food and other items will be able to be found in the various stores around the city, though if you're looking for something specific, you might not have any luck.

Not long after, on the 15th, the electricity in the houses - and the rest of the restored parts of the city - will sputter to life. Hopefully you're not too near any lights or outlets when that happens, because there's a fair chance of exploding bulbs and sparks flying. At least you can turn the lights on now, though!

So now you've got food and electricity, the bears are all either dead or have fled into the caves around the city (you didn't go too far in there, right?). Things are looking up! Except for the whole 'trapped in an alien city, what the hell are we doing here' thing. But that's probably not important, right?

[1: bear with him - 10/10]

[Adam has only just arrived in this place, and already he knows it's no better than the last one. The jury's out on whether it's worse or not, but he's only been here a couple of hours. There could be a lot more awful things to discover.

And this, right here and right now, is awful enough. Adam is out of the colosseum, at least, but so are the bears. His only weapon is a knife - it's on the large side, at least, but it's still just a knife. Not nearly enough to do any real damage to these enormous, terrifying bears. All he wants, for the moment, is to get away. Find somewhere safe until the trouble has passed. Adam knows his own abilities, he knows he has no chance against one of these monsters.

Which is why it's so unfortunate that he comes around corner and finds himself face-to-face with an astonishingly quiet bear. Adam draws a harsh breath and scrambles backward, looking around for any possible escape - or help.]

[2: a walk in the park - 10/12]

[Life isn't all running away from bears. Most of them seem to be gone, and even if they aren't, it's not like there are a lot of options. Adam was lucky that his backpack was brought here along with him, but with four teenage boys, his meager supplies aren't nearly enough. So of course he has to venture outside. A slow death by starvation is really no better than being eaten by bears.

He's still cautious, though, moving carefully, alert to everything around him, both the real things and the ones that are only in his head. He's found himself at the edge of the park, and the grass and trees are - comforting. It should be odd, but it isn't really. It's not his forest, but it's something.

Some of the tension is just easing from his shoulders when he hears something behind him and turns, hand going to his knife, tense and wary again instantly.]

It's not very polite to sneak up on someone.

[3: take me to church - 10/15]

[The temple is pristine and perfect, rising up above Adam, a distinct contrast to other parts of the city - and even to other temples. Adam has been exploring, he's seen at least one ruined one already. So why is this one intact, so perfectly so that it almost seems ready for worship?

But it's empty, of course, just like everything else in this strange, alien place.

He lingers outside, peering past the open doorway, and then turns to the person next to him.]

[As much as he's tried to avoid too much one-on-one time with Adam lately, sometimes it's inevitable. Sometimes they need to go exploring- whether for supplies or for mapping- and he doesn't want them to go out alone.

(It's different when Ronan goes out alone. He can trust himself to fight his way out of trouble. Adam and Noah and Gansey... not quite so much.)

So they're here, at this... this intact, ruined temple. Ronan hasn't spoken much on the trip so far, but he's curious, and he presses a hand against the stone entryway to look inside. It doesn't look like much. From what he can tell, it's pretty much empty, not much to look at- but the fact that it's intact could have some meaning, couldn't it?

Ronan snorts at the question though and moves inside without responding, looking up toward the vaulted ceiling as he enters the still place.]

Haven't been smited yet.

[His voice echoes strangely. He's not sure why that sends a prickle of fear down his spine.]

Dorian Pavus | open

[1: bearsplosion - 10/10]

[Dorian is in no mood to stand for being attacked by a bear. He hasn't even made it out of the colosseum, he has sand all over him, and he has no idea where he is. That all is more than enough to put him in a terrible mood - and being attacked by a giant and angry bear does not help.

It's a little overly large, really, and he's not entirely sure he can take it on his own. If only Cassandra were there. But she's not, and Dorian is, and he actually has no choice at all, because the bear is charging at him, teeth bared.

He raises his staff, and with little time to spare, casts a spell. The bear's shoulder erupts in an explosion of flame, burning its fur and skin and arm, the flames of it catching on the rest of the fur. Not enough to kill the thing, but enough to knock it off balance and interrupt its charge. It bellows, furious at the pain, and Dorian readies his magic again - caught, for a moment, by a movement out of the corner of his eye. Not another bear, thankfully.]

[2: needs food badly - 10/12]

[While Dorian has found himself with a decent amount of bear meat, and that's better than nothing at all, it's still not ideal. If nothing else, he's extremely tired of it already, and it's only been a couple of days. There's no spices, nothing to make it more palatable or interesting.

He sighs, vexed, and peers through the window of one of the stores. Empty, just like all the others.]

Some vegetables would be appreciated, at the very least.

[3: checking things out - 10/16]

[The fact that there's a library in this place initially seemed like a lovely gift, something to ease the sting of being kidnapped and trapped here, with bears and limited food and nothing particularly nice. But now that Dorian is actually in the library, it's less like a gift and more like a puzzle.

He can't read any of these books. They're written in foreign scripts, and different ones, at that. A vast library, full of books that Dorian can't read, and nothing to even begin trying to translate them.

Slowly, he gets more and more vexed, paging through book after incomprehensible book, looking for something that he can understand.]

BEARSPLOSION

[The Alcohol Demon has no idea where he is but he's seen gigantic rabid bears before and he wasn't impressed then either. Shockingly attempting to bludgeon them to death with a baseball bat isn't exceptionally effective. He's attempting it anyway because it seems like a far better option that being ripped limb from limb. He's busy enough with the bears that he hasn't noticed someone else in the area, but he definitely notices the fire.

Instantly he manifests a bottle of vodka and throws it at the bear, feeding the flames. He'll just keep doing that until the bear is a roaring inferno.]

WAKING/ARENA
[He wished he could say he was a stranger to waking up and not having a clue where he was, but... this was Steve Rogers we were talking about. Fortunately, he hadn't had a seventy year nap this time, but that didn't really sit too well with him since he woke not having a clue where he was or how he got there. He was on the ground, his pack lying not far from him, shield on the other side of him -- close enough he could reach out and touch it. Which he did. Grit dug into his cheek before he lifted it, blinking debris out of his lashes to see that he was on a dirt surface, that confined air feel of being in a building or underground leading him to believe he wasn't outside. Shield in hand, he rolled over and saw... yup. Some sort of rock surface far overhead. An underground tunnel system? Cavern?

Before he could fully try to sort it out, his brain warned him of something rushing at him and he had just enough time to slip his arm into the bands at the back of the shield before a clawed paw came to sweep at him, nails screeching over the shield and making his arm ache with the force of the blow. Seemed he'd woken near one of the dire bears, who'd also woken in an equally grumpy mood and had decided Steve looked like he could use a good mauling before being his morning snack. Steve decided to persuade it otherwise, vibranium clanging off the side of an open maw before he rolled to his feet, stunning the beast long enough that it didn't see the next hit coming for the back of his head. A sickening crack and it dropped, tongue lolling to lay in the dirt by stained teeth as the breath left it in a huff, paws twitching before it ceased to be.

Not exactly a fan of killing innocent animals, that didn't mean Steve was just going to lay there and be chewed on. Besides, as he looked around at what appeared to be a coliseum-type scenario, he could see that wasn't the only lumbering creature and he wasn't the only one being attacked. His pack could wait until later. Now? Time to go make sure anyone who needed help got it.

[He can be found either during the fracas or afterward, and can be either helping someone who needs it or coming up on them after they'd taken care of it themselves]]

HOUSING/FOOD/EXPLORATION
[Steve will be taking the next few days to explore the city, discovering that the tunnels are a Bad Idea™, and finding that while some buildings were in shambles, others were not. There were living areas that could be cleaned and made habitable, and if anyone needs help clearing things out, Steve's the guy to ask. He'll have found a house himself to set up as his base of operations/place to crash, but he's easily dragged into scavenging and fortifying anything.

With a couple bear kills (at least) under his belt and a lack of edible resources to be found, Steve will also more than happily share bear rations. He may not be the best cook, especially when he's doing it campfire style as there's no electricity for the ovens, but it's edible and better than nothing.

Until their little gifts arrive, in which case, Steve will go to check on those he's familiar with and do a second run of the city to see what else might have been left.

[ Cashmere appreciates Steve sharing the bear meat, really she does. but campfire roasted bear doesn't top anyone's list of favorite foods, and though it fills her stomach it's not really satisfying. she's not complaining, though. at least not out loud. ]

You think there's still a lot of bears out there? Is that what's in the tunnels?

[ It's hard to know what's going on. He doesn't really care though, but he's obviously lost track of Tejirof and the rest again. Would he be scolded by the mercenary when he found him?

As he thought about it, looked up at the ceiling and lazily blew out soap bubbles through his straw toward it, a dire bear came up behind him. It looked as if he hadn't noticed it, but some of his bubbles drifted up toward the bears face, and there was a ball of fire inside it. It exploded in the bear's face, startling it to pull backwards.

But it would probably just end up getting angry. ]

[ When you're looking at the houses once you've found them, you might notice the door to one of the smaller houses is wide open. If you go in to have a look around, and make any loud noise, there's suddenly another noise of someone falling out of a bed, and a groan. ]

[ Anyone with a huge sweet tooth needs to find some kind of supply of sweets, right? Vaiz had some on him from before, and he drifts from store to store slowly, during the days, and he can be heard muttering "can't a cake fall from the sky" and things of the sort. ]

If you then look at Oguna, who has a spear leaning against one shoulder and a crow perched on his other, he turns and walks away, only to lean against a wall and look back at you and the bears, obviously intending to only watch what happens. ] [ cooking bears ] [ He ended up killing a bear some while later, and he's made a fire in a street corner. The bear has been skillfully flayed and cut up, and part of it is being cooked on a skewer. ❰ so this is new. new and so very very not her bed - but no, hang on. she wouldn't be in her bed at all. not the one in harborview, anyway. it's all hazy, but she's remembering clearer by the second that harborview's pretty much toast. that whole world is. they went home...

well. supposedly.

sally kiiiind of wants a refund.

and holy shit, y'know what else she wants a refund on? this giant fucking bear emerging from an archway a few yards in front of her. ❱

Are you freaking kidding me with this?? ❰ she aims the question downward at the ground, complete with slightly spread arms like 'c'mon now what the hell'. but all that accomplished was attracting the bear's attention, and as it lets out a lip-curly roar in her direction, sally scrambles to her feet to back away at a slow, even pace. that's what you do with bears, right?it's either that or trying to ~appear bigger than the bear~ and fuck that, there's not enough unzipped jacket in the world.

the bear, of course, is entirely unconcerned by her attempts to follow traditional bear-encountering protocols, and it pretty quickly starts to lumber her way. so of course, sally's off like a shot. that's one thing a shithole like the box teaches you: how to run like hell. once she reaches an archway not unlike the one the bear came out of, she's hanging a sharp left, then ducking around a second corner and a third. she's getting herself totally lost, basically, but if she can't find herself than maybe neither can that fuck-no bear.

but while the third time's a charm, the fourth corner has her stopping short and ducking hastily back around out of sight. because guess what? there's another bear. which - okay, fine, she can just backtrack and pick a new route or something, except no she actually can't because through some horrifying miracle, no-no bear #1 can be heard approaching just around the latest bend.

so sally's pretty much between a rock and a hard place on this one, if by 'rock' and 'hard place' we mean two deceptively-soft homicidal beasts. and this is typically where she texts for help, but her cell's got no service (she checked that somewhere along her attempted escape) and she's actually not at all sure her backup's here anyway. maybe they made it back to mexico like they planned. maybe sally's just some kind of unlucky winner, like the 1 in 1000 who scores the caribbean cruise but instead of a cruise it's bears in a cave.

all at once, she remembers her bags. they were laying not too far off when she woke up, but it never quite occurred to her to grab them in light of, y'know, being prey. but if she can get to her backpack, she's at least got her knife and her nail gun. whether or not either of that shit could take down one of these bears is kind of a long shot, but whatever - at least it's kind of a plan.

a plan that involves dodging past the one barreling her way just around the corner. ❱

Got your balls on? ❰ she murmurs to herself, an echo of the geckos' exchanges before any occasion in which they took something the hell apart. but then she exhales a breath of apprehensive laughter, because: ❱ Nope, no I do not.

❰ and with that she's darting back down the hallway toward the bear, pressing her back to the wall just barely on this side of the corner. maybe it'll have too much momentum to catch her on the way by. or maybe it won't and she'll taste delicious. fortunately, the former seems at least slightly more likely, as the bear charges around the corner with an alarmed roar of objection as it skids past her. it was even bigger than she thought, its bulk briefly crushing her against the wall, but then it's far enough past her that she can take off running back the way she came.

one small problem: that fucker cracked a rib. sally gets just a few steps before she tries to suck in a breath and doubles over with searing pain, which of course means she stumbles - and now she's on the ground with a dire bear coming on fast.

save her ass? distract the bear? kill the bear?? anything that ends in not getting mauled would have her undying gratitude and also probably contributions of booze. ❱

Ronan Lynch | Open!

A. Arrival
[Ronan is not a boy scout. He did not come prepared. As a matter of fact, all he really has to his name is an old CD player and some other stuff that miraculously fits into the pockets of his leather jacket. No weapons, no way to contact anyone- nothing, save for the raven on his shoulder. The two of them wear matching expressions as they explore the colosseum, tentatively peering around corners before entering each hallway, jaw set and shoulders tensed, ready to fight if need be.

Not that he has much of a chance at taking on any of those monsters, but ultimately it's the thought that counts, right? If nothing else, then the raven could fly to safety.

He's tense as he hears footsteps, fingers drawing into fists as he presses his back against the wall and obscures himself from view. Ronan isn't quite stupid enough to go on the attack immediately, but that doesn't stop him from clearing his mind, preparing himself for a fight with anyone who might be nearby- animal or otherwise. It's not like he could outrun one of those bears anyway.]

Who's there?

[His voice is rough when he asks, grating, but still very much belonging to a seventeen year old boy.]


B. Whoops
Shit!

[Ronan is running through the empty streets with a backpack barely clinging to his back. Above him, his raven soars in the air, crowing as she tries to simultaneously keep an eye on him as well as look out for any dangers around him. The backpack slams hard against his back and spills open, strewing about various supplies onto the street.

A switchblade skitters out onto the ground, along with what looks like a journal with loose papers crammed inside, a bit of rope, some various other useless objects. Ronan curses again and looks behind him- but there's no monsters there.

He goes still at that- weren't they just behind him?- and takes a breath, pulling the backpack from his back and examining the broken zipper with a tight expression on his face. The bag is strained, ripped with claw marks in it. There's no way it was going to hold all of his shit for the entire way back. The fact that he even made it out to here is a miracle, really.

This isn't good, but at least whatever was chasing him seems to have given up.]


C. Territorial
[Those who go near one of the defunct housing spirals to explore may be getting a little bit of an eyeful. Sorry about that.

Is there a graceful way to say that Ronan Lynch prefers to pee outside whenever the urge strikes him? No? Okay.

Well, that's what he's doing now, bag still slung over his back, jeans only shucked open enough to let it- you know, happen, inappropriate as it may be. He doesn't notice that there's anyone else there until- well, until he does, and he tilts his head a little sharply, though doesn't... stop... as he calls out.]

also, it's a bit disconcerting (okay, full on fucking terrifying) to not know who had been included in that we he'd shouted at the line. that's why gansey's looking. he has to find them. they have to be here. he can't possibly have fucked up that badly.

THE COLISEUM

❰ aside from the obvious aesthetic advantages, zelos actually has a pretty decent advantage over at least a few of the others waking up here in the ursine battle royale, on account of the fact that not only has he co-slaughtered quite a few bears like these back home, but he's also taken apart plenty of larger beasts too.

though the distinct recollection of his own death puts a damper on things for a couple of minutes, zelos quickly savvies up to the fact that he can wallow in that later - that now's the time to kill shit like any other weekday or else something much less respectable will slaughter him a second time in less than a day.

are you visibly in the middle of some kind of beartastrophe? well here comes one zelos wilder out of nowhere, possibly before the bear quite reaches you, with a swing of his dagger and a shout of "DEMON FANG!", followed by "STALAGMITE!" to finish it off with a series of stone spears shooting up from the earth - or if the bear's too close for that, he'll just come up beside you, sweep you back out of the way, and feed his decent-sized dagger into the beast's brain through the roof of its mouth.

if you happen to be female - any female will do - all of that rescuing jazz comes with a definite sort of stylistic flourish, and if he swept you behind him, it's with a protective arm around your back. ❱ Not even a contest, ❰ he says as the bear falls, turning to the lovely lady he's just rescued with a charming grin. ❱ Zelos Wilder, ❰ he introduces with a flourishing bow (but the form's totally improper, he's clearly never taken a bow seriously in his life), and when he straightens up he offers a wink. ❱ You can thank me later. ❰ and then he's heading off to keep looking for a way out - but by all means, follow him or stop him or punch his face or something. ❱

❰ if you happen to be a guy, on the other hand... his sweeping you out of the way was probably a bit like a gentle clothesline shoving you back, and when he turns to face you, his half-grin's quite a bit more disillusioned. ❱ Live to fight another day, right? ❰ then a vague two-fingered salute and he's on his way. like i said, definitely follow him/stop him/punch his face/something. ❱

[Megrez was definitely not expecting the surprise rescue. As it happened, one bear had managed to track her down as she was fleeing, and there was only so much an egg to the face could do, particularly when she was wary about bringing out the bigger ones...]

Huh? Ah, wait!

[Coming from a place where contacts were so important, Megrez was not the type to just let her rescuer run off like that, quickly pursuing him. The called attacks and stone spires brought a fellow Cosmonarch to mind, but if he had ended up here too... well, that didn't seem to be a concern, since her savior had actually given what seemed to be a civilian name before leaving.]

Excuse me, but would you mind if I followed you? It would be nice to have some armed backup. [Beat.] You can call me Megrez.

[ 10.10 ]

[ Cashmere doesn't waste time wondering where the hell she is - there will be plenty of time later to be pissed off about her particular circumstances. she moves on instinct and she's on her feet immediately, pulling her knife from it's place in her boot. it's not her first time in an arena, though this one is smaller and more literal than she's used to. a glance around reveals strangers, some very unhappy bears, and no supplies to speak of other than what people have next to them. without any supplies to gain from sticking around she heads for the nearest door out of this mess and hopefully to somewhere better.

that's easier said than done. moving from the place she awoke irritates the nearest bear and it charges at her with an angry growl. she is armed, but it's with a small shank she's sharpened into a knife herself, so there's no telling how sharp it will be. sharp enough, she thinks, to do some damage, so instead of running she holds her ground with the intention of slitting its throat.

and if you'd like to help, she won't say no. ]

[ 10.11 - 10.12 ]

[ no food to be found is terribly familiar, which puts her in a sour mood. ever since escaping the colosseum, she's been scavenging the city for anything that seems useful, and takes to carrying a backpack that has more straps than she has arms to carry her new-found odds and ends. Cashmere looks a little worse for wear, the ends of her hair stained with blood and her clothes needing a good washing. it doesn't seem to bother her much.

there's a benefit to the familiarity, though. based on her experiences at the hotel, she's sure that it will pass before it becomes too worrisome. there will be food eventually, she's sure of that. this leaves her plenty of time to obsess over other topics, such as where they are and how they got here.

she spots someone just up the street, and hurries to catch up. hope they weren't going anywhere important. ] Hey. Hey! Let me ask you some questions. I'm looking for somebody.

[Ronan has only barely had time to find shelter with his friends before setting out again. There's too many variables about this place and he doesn't like it- especially since it seems to be different than the last place that pulled them in, and he was only just starting to learn the rules of the land there.

Still, small blessings: they're together, he thinks that he could still be able to dream if things get dire, and he still has Chainsaw.

The raven- Chainsaw- is currently perched happily on his shoulder while he searches around for any sort of supplies, and she flutters her wings a little halfheartedly when the girl calls out to them. It catches Ronan's attention even so, and he draws himself up to stand, eyeing the blood on her clothes with some level of suspicion.

Not that he can really talk. Everything about Ronan Lynch is a weapon- from the closely shaved head, to the sharpness of the tattoo creeping up his neck, to the incendiary look in his eye as he turns to her. He might as well be covered in blood too, with the way he carries himself.]

1. Hunting Lodge All Over Again - 10/10

[He doesn't know where he is, which is irritating, he has no idea where Ethan is, which is infuriating, and he's being attacked by giant bears, which is definitely not helping his mood. The last time he'd been around a giant bear hadn't been great either, and this time he didn't have a handy plane around to try and crash into it.

Instead he summons a baseball bat and takes a swing. The bear is less than impressed, swatting him with a paw and sending him flying into a column. He staggers back to his feet, seemingly unharmed and takes another tactic.

Static electricity crackles around him, there's a white noise sound like speakers broadcasting silence as loudly as possible, and anything around him that's not nailed down starts to float off the ground and spin in a circle around him.

[The demon is bored, bored and prowling around the city, looking for something to do, or something to break, when there's a sudden sputtering, a few lights come on and then almost instantly turn off.

Curious.

He gets a bit closer, which proves to be a mistake when a sudden power surge courses through the city and the light bulbs above him explode into a shower of sparks and electric arcs. He gets hit full in the face and goes flying backwards from the impact, crashing into the ground and sliding for a few feet.]

Well, fuck.

[Also. He's on fire.]

[The last thing Ellie remembers is being underwater, struggling for air and failing. Waking up somewhere away from the fast running water, or the hospital, or - most importantly - Joel, is very worrying. She's soon on her feet and looking for him.] Joel?

[She searches the area, recognising nothing, growing more uneasy. Where the hell is she?] Joel!

[Unfortunately this shouting catches the attention of something nearby. When she hears the growling, Ellie's first thought is that of infected, as usual. But when she turns, quietly and carefully rounding a corner, there's a huge bear standing in her path. Ellie's eyes widen as she takes several steps back.]

Holy shit- [She's only ever seen bears in books before - this is... way bigger than any bear she's seen in a book. Once it's spotted her, it's immediately heading toward her, clearly hungry. Instantly, she grabs her pistol - shooting once, twice, three times before she has to reload.

Though injured, the bear still has enough fight in it as she's reloading to get pretty close. Care to help a girl out?]

(b. 12th, lake. don't be fishy)

[Man, is she hungry. Ellie had no food on her when she got here, a fact she's starting to seriously regret. There's next to no animals to hunt, unless the bears count - alright, they do, but they're hard to kill and she's almost died trying before.

So, for now she's by the lake. There are small fish in there, and they fed her yesterday, hopefully one'll do the same today. She has her switchblade out, hovering it over the water. When she sees a fish come close, she strikes it down. The blade misses though, the fish swimming away from her.]

Shit... [She frowns, but a noise from behind stops her from trying again.

Her reaction is immediate. Whether your character is approaching quietly or not, they'll soon have a gun in their face.]

[Bruce yells, and then hits the bear in the face with a bit of wood. He's about ten feet to the side, and he's thrown the thing; it has the effect of startling the animal, maybe if you're being generous to irritate it, but it's literally the only thing he can think of, and maybe it buys her a few seconds.

And then the bear is looking at him, which is not entirely ideal, so he scrambles backwards, fast, hoping desperately that she isn't too low on ammunition. Otherwise pretty soon they're going to be in a brand new kind of big, green trouble.]

[Bruce Banner hangs on to his calm, and his glasses, with equal amounts of determination and blind luck. He keeps quiet, and keeps to himself, generally not venturing out of the house, particularly not once hunger starts to make him snappish. For this reason, he can be difficult to catch sight of, just a quiet figure ducking from building to building, scavenging in hopes of finding something, a familiar face, anything to eat-

-or, to be perfectly honest, to use to take down a bear.]

[More likely is that Bruce can be found after the power comes back on. Fed, rested- and only a little bit bloodied by a bursting lightbulb a little too close to him for comfort, he begins to spend more time out in earnest.

Quite honestly, he still feels a little rough around the edges in terms of socialization. He is, however, keenly aware that he is a responsible adult while a few of the other arrivals are very young, and that he has a better than average grasp of both first aid and the fundamentals of working with electricity. Plus, in a pinch, fighting off bears, which is a plus.

Today, he may approach if he sees a problem- a minor injury, a bit of uncooperative wiring or someone boarding up a broken window, or even just a look of confusion- and in a careful and quiet way, offer;]

[Bruce isn't the only one skittish- or ducking around dark corners, for that matter. Ronan may be a little less hungry than the older man, but that makes him no less irritable, and coincidentally, in the same neighborhood to scavenge any sort of supplies that he might be able to find.

Part of it is just exploring. He's restless and nervous about the bears, angry that he's in a situation like this again, worried about his friends. It makes him too antsy to just sit at home and wait to die of starvation, which brings him- here. To the same building that Bruce is currently sneaking into.

There's a raven perched in the shadows of one of the shelves, and, startled at the appearance of a stranger, she lets out a shrill cry. Alerted to the other man's presence, Ronan stands up taller, reaches into his pocket for a knife.]

[ Dipper doesn't waken immediately—instead, he remains unconscious upon the coarse sand, looking like nothing more than a sleeping kid. Up until the wet nose of a large bear roughly nudges at his side, a low grunt escaping its throat each time it does; better check for live prey rather than dead, right? Dipper stirs, groans out his own irritated "Will you stop," cracks his eyes—

And spots the animal looming over him like a giant. ]

—Aaah!

[ Letting out a yelp, he's jolted out of his sleepy stupor and sits up enough to begin scrambling back. All this does, however, is let the bear know he's something to catch, snapping its maw forward just enough to be a close call.

Dipper is absolutely not being quiet about it. ]

How did you even— [ WHY IS THERE A BEAR. ] Just—don't eat me, don't eat me! Go away!!

[ If you happen to also be along the edges of the massive, underground city, you might eventually come across Dipper hanging around at the mouth of one of the many tunnels. With a chin to his hand, he shifts upon his feet often and keeps glancing between several entrances that line the walls, deliberating a thought. But with how often he mutters aloud to himself, it's not hard to catch what: ]

This one, orrrr... this one? ... Is this a good idea? I have to find out more, but...

[ If you're also thinking no, don't let this kid in by himself, well—he could use the interruption. ]

[ In the outskirts of the park, underneath one of the remaining collection of trees, Dipper sits cross-legged up against the trunk; in his lap lays a red, hardcover book with gold lining, though it appears old and tattered as if it had once withstood the elements for a long time. It's easy to spot how worn and tired he is, but despite this, Dipper continues flipping through the pages, skimming and turning to the next one with a hint of annoyance each time. ]

Old creepy cave, old creepy cave... old creepy cave.... Come on, there's gotta be something in here I can use! Is there really nothing at all?

[ He isn't having a whole lot of luck finding what he wants out of whatever book he's got on him, huh? ]

[ Arya's first thought when she wakes up is that this is not the House of Black and White. There's sand, for one, and light. It's warmer, more open. She wonders if she's dreaming. The wolf dreams, after all, feel so real. Could this be a dream like that?

Then she hears the roars and realizes that no, there's no way this is a dream. It must be another test. She doesn't know how the Kindly Man got her here, but she now knows what she has to do. She's going to kill each and every one of those bears. At least she's got Needle to do it with.

She's covered in blood, both her own and that of the bears, as she makes her way through the coliseum, slashing and roaring as she goes. ]

acorn: a fresh alternative to bear
[ Arya might be the only lady she knows that knows how to scavenge. Then again, she's not a proper lady anymore. What a relief, really. She doesn't think she could be a proper lady if she tried.

Luckily, there are trees. The things falling off them look sort of similar to acorns, so she figures they might be edible. She can make a mean acorn paste, after all. Hot Pie taught her well. She's got plenty of it mashed up already. ]

[ Arya jumps at the first hiss, then gives a yelp when sparks fly out of the little round thing on the ceiling. What is that? Why is it so bright all of a sudden? She squints at it, and draws Needle. An attacker? A Mage? Is this a god's work? ]

[ Cashmere's glad to be out of the colosseum, but isn't letting her guard down just yet. she doesn't wander far before spotting a child, and internally groaning. she can imagine what Killian would say - that if she sees a kid in a hellhole like this and walks away that makes her heartless. he'd be right about that too.

besides, it looks like the kid could be hurt. Cashmere starts by calling to her, but keeping distance between them. ]

Hey! Did you teach yourself to fight? [ if she tangled with a bear and walked away, she absolutely knows what she's doing. ]

[Bears. Why'd it have to be bears?

Waking up as he does there's not a whole lot of time to assess the situation. He's clearly underground, so Rainier's first thought is perhaps a part of the Deep Roads collapsed in under him and he was knocked unconscious from the fall. This could be part of an abandoned Thaig, it lacks the layers of dust and spider webbing usually found but weirder shit has happened.

He's got his pack and his weapons and armor on him, which means he wasn't kidnapped. Any enemy that grabs a warrior and then leaves them to wake up with their equipment handy isn't very good at their job.

Any further examination of the situation needs to wait, because not more than twenty feet away what looks like a blighted bear is waking up and appears equally groggy and unhappy. Rainier rolls to his feet, snatching up his shield with one hand while he draws his sword with his other.

There are other people here, and Maker preserve them, some of them look like children.]

Run for it, I'll distract it!

[Rainier is no Cassandra Pentaghast, but he'd be remiss in his duties as part of the Inquisition if he couldn't take a couple dozen bears.]

[2 - 10/12]
[Once the dust has settled so to speak, Rainier actually keeps close to the coliseum where they first woke. He ventures out to explore some, but he's wary of straying too far from the place for too long in the event someone decides to show up and offer up an explanation for everything so far.

Sure there's still bears about, but now they've spread out into the rest of the abandoned Thaig (Rainier knows not what else to call it so that's what it's getting called). Here at least were ones he's killed and others that expired from wounds sustained from others.

Rainier had just set out from Skyhold, he's got plenty of rations to sustain him that he'd prefer to not dig into if he doesn't have to. He's got his field tent set up against one of the sturdier looking parts of the coliseum walls and a smaller campfire going made of burnable debris scattered around, and is going about skinning and drying as much bear meat as he can from the bears that don't look like they suffered from the blight. Seeing someone approach as he's elbows-deep in the task, knife separating flesh from meat, he nods to where he's kept the ones that are done already.]

Take some. No telling how long we'll be stuck here.

[There's plenty of bear to go around, so the offer comes regardless for everyone. It is less an offer and more of an order to any kids. Kids in this sense meaning anyone who appears under 22.]

When the city lights up as electricity courses through it, lights blinking into existence as if by magic except there's no mage apparently doing it? What the fucking hell.

Rainier stands, grabbing his sword, but there's nothing apparently needing attacking.]

[Adam is walking, somewhat randomly, around the city. His stomach is a little upset from the bizarre food but at least it was food and he's not starving anymore. He's explored a great deal of the city by now but when the lights suddenly come on it's almost as if he's in a whole new city.

He stops and slowly turns in a circle, looking at all the lights, not certain if he feels more or less at home. When Adam hears someone nearby he turns to look at them and he stares for a long moment at the sword. There are certainly some interesting people here.]

It looks like someone found the light switch to the city.

[1: Unbearable! 10/10]

[It took a moment for the bleariness to subside, but when it did, Megrez quickly became aware that she was in deep trouble. There were huge bears everywhere and tons of people being understandably unnerved by the bears, leaving Megrez two choices: she could assist those who were even less equipped than she was to fight the menaces, or she could make a run for it.

Fright took place over reason, and she fled the scene, tucking herself into a nook and panting heavily, willing herself to get steady. She probably didn't have long before at least one bear found her; if it was a Chaonid, it would pick up on her aura, and if it was just a plain old bear, it'd probably smell her. Hopefully she could figure out an escape plan before everything went to hell.]

[2: Strange house, nice people. 10/13]

[Megrez had been holed up in what looked like an apartment for a good few hours; the stairs had been a doozy to climb, particularly with how weak and exhausted she had been, but the room seemed to be unoccupied, and a bed looked nice right about then...

The bed was comfortable enough, or maybe it became more so because of how much of a mess she was. She powered up again before leaving, only to stop dead at the stash of food in front of her door. It was certainly welcome, but there was the possibility that it was a trap... so she lingered for a bit with her door open, looking to see if anyone else had received a similar offering and if they had survived eating a piece.]

[3: But seriously, where are we? 10/15]

[When the electricity came on, Megrez felt a bit more confident about exploring the city. It was hard to treat it like a normal patrol when she knew absolutely nothing about the layout of the city, but she thought she had figured out some landmarks to get her from place to place. This one shop (or at least, it looked like a shop) could be one. Right now, however, she was distracted by the assortment of clothes within; her uniform cleaned itself, but she definitely needed clothes for when she was powered down. This shirt and these pants looked to be about her size...]

10/10 - a beary bad situation

[This is not the first time Noah's woken up in a strange place with no memory of how he got here. Actually if you count his time alive at Aglionby, it isn't even his fifth. Thanks schanpps and wild parties! That being said it's the second time the location is somewhere creepy and unknown.

They said if you went home you'd wake up back where you left with no memories of what happened. Noah remembers everything about his time with the Technicians, the train, the friends he made, and this is not Henrietta. A single glance shows that.

There's a growl somewhere to his left. Noah struggles to stand, turning to look and -

oh fuck is that a bear?

Yeah, Noah might have a knife but he's still grabbing his bag and making the fastest run for an exit that he can, only pausing long enough to check each person he sees to make sure it isn't one of his friends. Sorry if he bumps into you or trips over you.]

10/14 - animal, vegetable, or mineral?

[Now that foods are readily available out and about, Noah's got his bag with him and is stocking up in one of the shops. He's mostly grabbing things similar to what was in the original basket because he knows those ARE foods and are safe.

But man... he's really hungry now...

There's something that looks similar to one of the fruits or vegetables that was in the basket - sort of like a kiwi with the skin of an apple, except this one is bright shiny green. Traditionally green fruits are pretty sour. Noah is not in the mood for sour. He's hungry NOW though.

So he shrugs and bites into it.]

[ The ground is soft in that a layer of dust cradles her head as she stirs. Her mouth is dry, as if she's been without water for much too long, and for a wild moment she wonders if it's at all possible that she'd both traveled to and passed out in the Forbidden Oasis without memory of it. Struggling much more than usual, the Inquisitor, Cecily Trevelyan, manages to draw herself up onto her hands and knees, brows knit in displeasure and mounting confusion.

It isn't the first time something like this has happened to her and she very much doubts it'll be the last.

She gags briefly, throat raw and coarse, but that's not her main concern, or anywhere near it. Forefront in her mind is that her surroundings aren't at all familiar, don't even appear to be like any part of Thedas that she's traveled to. Her heartbeat quickens as awareness settles on her like the dust of the coliseum and she realizes she's not alone, not by far, in the makeshift cage that she's been transferred into. Not too far away, a twisted, monstrous bear, not at all like those she's seen, spies her with cold, dark eyes. The creature bares its teeth preemptively, staring her down with burning, vicious intent. ]

Maker. Can't catch a break, then. [ She mutters, slowly, very slowly, getting to her feet. The bear seems interested in a fight, or in eating her, probably, and begins to lumber in her direction. With all the weariness of a much older woman, of someone who's seen too much of life to be anything but chagrined, Cecily strings the bow at her back. There isn't much she can learn about what's happened until she's at least out of harm's way; she doesn't even have the presence of mind, yet, to notice that there are other people nearby... ]


caves, outskirts

[ She won't go in (or not too far in, anyway), but she lingers outside the caves, staring intently. If there's any chance that they could be connected to the Deep Roads... and it's unlikely, based on all she's heard since her bizarre awakening, but. Anything's possible, she's learned, and can spare a shred of hope that if they could survive the trip, the caves might be the answer to returning to Thedas, and to Skyhold.

A grumbling roar echoes distantly from within and she wrinkles her nose. Is it possible they're worse than demons and darkspawn? Since she's arrived, she hasn't seen a single rift, which is reassuring. The Inquisitor peers briefly at her hand and flexes it; surely, it would react if there were any links to the Fade nearby. Though, honestly, it isn't as if the anchor has hash ever been very predictable. ]

Ah- [ She hisses; just as she's considering the hand in question, it strings sharply, like someone touched it with a hot poker. Cecily draws it in close, fingers curling against her palm. ] Dammit...

[ As if she doesn't have enough to deal with, being a captive in a completely foreign city with people the likes of which she'd never imagined, let alone seen. Even the ridiculous natives of Orlais pale in comparison to the fashions and languages of the others who'd somehow been taken. They seem benign enough (seem being the optimal word), but she knows better than to underestimate anyone based on appearances.

Of course, they aren't the ones hovering at the fringes of the likely-dangerous, monster-bearing caves, so. Take it as you will. ]

[ She's starving. They've been in the city and its lands for days without food, save for whatever they could take from the bears they'd killed. She'd been hesitant at first; the things had seemed monsters at best and their meat could be poisoned. Cecily thought of darkspawn, of the taint, and shied away from the spoils, leaving them to others.

But, now, she regrets it, deep in the pit of her stomach. It rumbles with a needy growl and she wraps her arms around herself, sitting at the water's edge with her toes breaking the surface. There's water, but it could be contaminated. There aren't any other animals around or merchants or locals who could help them. She has arrows enough, and poultices, but no sustenance.

Her stomach rumbles again and she lies back against the grass, gaze tracing the outline of a foreign sky. ]

There's got to be something. [ And she's been talking to herself since her arrival. Another nice touch of insanity for an insane situation. ]

[It's not the familiarity of any location she knows, and when Minako lifts her head up from the dirt floor of the Coliseum, there's a moment where she thinks she's in a dream. A very weird, messed up dream and suddenly she's cursing herself for eating all of those sweets before bed. She's quick to her feet, however, when she realizes she's not alone.

Suddenly it's not a dream, this is real and an immediate sense of foreboding fills her gut. And then bears.]

What the-

[Those are far from teddy bears, and this is the wrong place and wrong time for her to transform into Venus, so she's just going to have to wing it.

The nearest bear begins charging, and she yells and runs for the nearest person.]

[While Minako could last a day without food, two days was unbearable. Her words, and she's pretty sure that if anyone heard that, they'd groan and throw something at her.

She's found shelter, but food? Minako hasn't found any of that yet, and she is salivating at anything that could remotely be edible. Can she get nutrition from a rock? Could she lick it and sustain her life for just one more day?

Cue a dramatic flop against a wall, her head falling forward.]

That's it, I'm gonna die here. I won't live to be a famous idol, adored by millions of fans, I won't live to find the man of my dreams, some rich, handsome prince wanting to sweep me off my feet, I won't live to have adorable little children!

The world's going to be deprived of my presence and they'll weep! How can this place deprive the world of me?

[Minako, it's only been two days, omg.]


[exploring, the 16th]

[Now that the Minako monster has sufficiently been fed and sated for now, she's decided to explore the city. Her common sense is kicking in now, and it's time to find a way out.

And it'll be a way out for not just her, but everyone else as well. So far she's obviously determined they're underground. But where? What country, what continent, even what planet? Are they even in the same solar system? Who's holding them?

There were too many questions for her to answer right now, so she'll just be about the city, trying to find out any information she can.]

[Ah, the familiar sound of dramatic complaining. Dorian knows it well. He's indulged in it more than a bit himself, and so he can't quite keep himself from chiming in.]

Tragic, isn't it? As if whatever's brought us here has deliberately stolen the most scintillating and unique presences. How will our homes go on without us? How can they?

[there isn't much time between waking up flat on his back (which is really uncomfortable because he's still got his travel bag on, ow) in the middle of the arena and hearing the first low angry grumbling of a nearby monster as noishe nudges at his cheek with his nose and whines. or, well, is it a monster? it mostly just looks like a bear. a really really big one but still. just a bear.

either way, hesitation has never exactly been lloyd's thing, and he figures he can stop to try and figure out what happened later after the bears are gone. he rolls to his feet and draws his swords in one motion, squaring off against the nearest menacing beast with blades crossed.

and then noishe whines again and rather spoils the whole image. lloyd takes a moment to drag his attention away from the bear and glance over his shoulder at his "dog".] It'll be okay, Noishe, just-- [the bear growls lowly, almost as if offended by lloyd's lack of concern for it, and noishe's long ears quiver anxiously before he darts over to hide behind the closest person, which is honestly saying something for a "dog" roughly the size of a horse, but what can you do really.]

Oh come on, don't hide behind stangers, Noish-urk! [apparently the bear is done waiting for lloyd's little domestic moment because it swipes down one giant paw and lloyd is rolling quickly to the side to avoid getting hit. he's back on his feet in an instant and calling over:]

b. is for bears 10/12

[two days in this new place and still no food. it was weird enough to lloyd the first couple times he killed a bear and didn't get anything out of the whole venture except, well, bear, and while his pack had had a few perishables stashed away in it there had hardly been enough to make anything approaching a real meal for two people, and lloyd had kind of gotten into the habit of maybe... liking cooking for his friends?

but there were still plenty of bears, even if you had to go slightly out of the city to find them sometimes, and even if they weren't dropping gald or gels when they died there was still plenty that could be scavenged from their, uh. carcasses.

it doesn't even cross lloyd's mind not to share with the rest of the city, honestly. even between him and zelos there was more than enough bear meat to go around, so on the 12th people will find lloyd honest to goodness knocking on doors and waiting to see if anyone answered, swords on his hips and friendly 'welcome to the neighborhood' smile on his face.]

[ _{there's a soft beeping behind Sebastian's door, and the noise of a large man throwing himself through the house to rip the explosive trap bolt off the door before it explodes and kills his poor visitor. a long moment of silence after that, with just the softest sound of a gruff voice cursing. then, the door opens, revealing a sloppily dressed Sebastian who had clearly been asleep just a few minutes ago.} ]

[Waking up with his face in the dirt was starting to become something he was getting used to. It was right behind waking up in unknown places which was also starting to become a fairly common experience for him. Fun. He vaguely wonders whether or not he should start keeping a tally or counter for how many times that this tended to happen these days. At least this time, he could remember what happened before-his house had just fallen on top of him after he just challenged The Mandarin on live TV.

Not the smartest decision of his life, but he's sure he's made worse.

He slowly lifts himself off the ground and ignores the ache in his muscles. Time to see where the hell JARVIS brought him. Actually, that reminds him-Where the hell is his suit? Clearly it's not on him and J knows better than to take it off. Whatever, there is't anything he can do about it now. He rubs the dirt off of his face and looks around, discovering that he's on what appears to be the set of Gladiator.

Except this time there's bears.

Lots of bears. Angry bears.

Tony jumps to his feet, calls out JARVIS's name. He gets no response and he reaches into his pockets for something, anything that can help him out. There isn't anything useful at the moment and one bear in particular is heading his way.

Okay, maybe the whole Mandarin thing was a pretty bad decision.]

[I'm so hungry I could eat at Arby's.]

[Breaking and entering usually wasn't his thing, but after days of running from rabid bears and being stuck in what seemed to be an abandoned city, breaking and entering wasn't a bad idea. And of course, the place he chose to squat in had to look like it came off a Star Wars set. Not even the good movies, either. This was some terrible Episode 1 design right here.

Whatever. At this point, beggars can't be choosers.

After a bit of rest and rummaging through the house only to find it empty, Tony decides it's finally time to emerge from the house and get some food. He doesn't have much in ways of weapons so hunting's out of the question, but he's sure he can come up with something. Maybe if he could catch one of the bears off guard.

Or he can get mauled by one, but hopefully that wouldn't happen.]

[ Arya's mostly focused on an exit. The bears are just an unfortunate obstacle. She's killed a few bears, but mostly, she's stayed alive by running from them. Those bears are huge, after all, and she doesn't want to test her luck.

She can see another figure in the distance. A man? She's not entirely sure, but there's a bear coming for him, and he's just standing there and shouting some stupid name like an idiot. She sprints towards the bear, and manages to plunge her sword in its back. She's roaring, the bear is roaring -- it's truly a loud, bloody mess. ]

Why are you still standing there? Move!

- Colosseum 10/10 -

”I’m not in your apartment…” Isaac croaked in protest before he rolled over to his side and gave a few weak coughs. His eyes opened and he fixated on the ground which was a dry, brownish-red, surface. Immediately the sight of it informed him that he was not where he was meant to be. Tau Volantis was covered in snow, he should be face deep in winter. Isaac slowly pushed himself up and took note that he was not alone, he could see other people, but more shocking was the sight of large brown-coated beasts.

They weren’t necromorphs but they were, in their own right, still monsters by their size and offensive features. Claws were as long and thick as his elbow down to his fingers. It didn’t take long to realize that, like himself, they were rousing.

Isaac quickly to to his feet and pushed himself to stumble a few feet backward before he turned around to find the nearest exit. As he turned he found even more bears flexing and stretching. The sight overwhelmed him and he focused past them, difficult as that was, to find a plausible route out of this.

This–– whatever this was. That had to come later, safety first. As they say.

Isaac managed to kill a bear, it was by itself otherwise he doubted he would’ve had the ability to kill it. He took from the lessons gathered from his world and worked on cutting off two limbs before he decapitated it with his weapon. Once it was dead he took too examining it at a closer proximity. The massive bear was large enough to build a convenient store in. Though it was hunger more than anything that brought his thoughts to the possibilities that lurked within that massive girth. One definite possibility came to mind: meat. Though the thought didn’t come without concern on whether or not the meat was safe to eat.

Isaac stood there for a long time, losing himself to the sight of the fallen mass and considering whether or not he wanted to try the meat. As far as he could tell, the bear was just an animal — overgrown by a few acres, but just a bear.

If he were home he would be concerned and the thought of eating the fallen would not have come to him, at least before he recovered logs of starving units on Tau Volantis left without any resources and turned to the fallen infected necromorphs to feast on. That didn’t end well for them, that didn’t end well for anyone.

Yet, there was more to this than Isaac’s concern on if the meat was safe or not to eat. He didn’t have John there to smack some sense into him and so his thoughts were spiraling down a darkness that had him thinking: Am I dead? Am I a necromorph - did I turn into those fucking things? The fear of that overwhelmed him as he stood still and stared at the spilling blood pooling around his feet.

He could no longer blame his displacement on his mind, on his confusion, on some fucked up feature of his body suit seeping too much oxygen in his helmet making him high. This was his reality, ironic and unbelievable as it was.

A skyless world full of vagrants like himself, from all sorts of worlds and different times of his world as well. He’s even talked to some people claiming that they were from his world - his earth - but their account and time line was confusing to his own account of history and his own timeline. As if they had come from a parallel universe.

It took a week to accept it but once he did it made moving around the city a lot better than the first few days in which he was still stuck under dazed and confused. Now he had purpose, and it helped a ton that there was working electricity and food.

Dorian has been doing his own exploring, his own hunting. His magic is enough to keep him safe - if he can't scare the bears off, he can usually kill them, though it takes some effort and he's had a few close calls. But really, he'd like something besides bear meat to eat, so he's out and about, investigating this strange cave he's been trapped in.

He approaches the man, somewhat carefully, as who knows what to expect from anyone? But he seems - distracted, so Dorian isn't particularly worried.

"There's no need to simply stand there. Your shoes will get ruined."

Wake up.
The first thing on his mind when he comes to is 'not again.' The feeling of waking up in an unfamiliar place is too familiar, and always means danger. He'd be on his feet faster if his world weren't spinning, his bad leg stiff, his mind numb. He needs a minute to process the artificial light, the high walls, the inescapable sense of being trapped. Hadn't he been on a Berg before this? They'd been flying, and he'd fallen asleep—a Greenie mistake to make when things were in flux and still so dangerous for them as a group. But he'd been exhausted from days in the Scorch and the stress of running and fighting and running some more. As the details came back to him he realized his leg would be useless for the better half of a day, leaving him to hobble around as the muscles relaxed after being worked raw.

Pushing himself up, he briefly registers that there's no one near him. Panic rises in his chest as he looks around, barely lessened by the silhouettes of other bodies around him. Are they dead? If not, are they friendly? As he pushes himself to his feet, he hears a growl and looks across the dirt floor to see a hulking shape lumbering towards him. Grabbing the machete from his back, he starts inching backwards. "Bloody hell. WICKED can't leave well enough alone."

Stick together.
Running away from the monster&mash;someone had called it a bear—had been easy. Newt spent most of his memorable life running from things, both physically and mentally, and it had been yet another uncomfortable familiarity. But running from where he'd woken up makes it harder to find his friends who he both prays to run into and hopes have been spared this fate. As the days stretch on he remembers more and more, not just of home but also the places in-between, the island and the desert which had been so similar to the Scorch and yet so different. He wonders if Thomas is here, or Frypan or maybe even Teresa. Above all, though, he needs to find Minho.

If someone else pops up, someone he doesn't know, he'll err on the side of caution but realize that he needs to make friends. He'd been through this enough times to know that being along was a sure way to end up dead or crazy.

Once Newt finds some semblance of sanity, he focuses on survival. He'd been lucky enough to arrive with a lot of what he needed short-term, even some food to get through the first few days without. He'd experienced starvation before, though, and he's smart enough to ration the food that shows up on his doorstep. He's got clothes, of course, and two years living with a bunch of other boys means he's no stranger to body odor. The most important thing is food, and weapons, and maybe a safe place to sleep that doesn't feel as vulnerable as the place he's currently staying in.

He's never had to scavenge for food before, but there's no time like the present to learn. Eventually he'll have to figure out hunting, too.

Adam is not in any way the heroic type, but he also finds it difficult to simply stand aside and let people be disemboweled and eaten by giant bears. That's the only real explanation for why he's helping anyone besides his friends - the smart thing to do would be get away, hole up somewhere until the threat is past. And he probably will, after this.

He's not stupid enough to face the bear head on, not when he's nothing like a fighter. But he shouts - hey - and throws a piece of fallen stonework at it from where he's standing, which is not so far from a hole in the wall. A small one, difficult for bears to get through. Adam isn't a fighter, but he is smart. He calls out to Newt.

"Get over here, if you can - I'll try to distract it!"

Kylar Stern | Open

[A: Fighting with his bear-hand]

[Kylar is up faster than most. He isn't armed though, literally, half of one of his lower arms is missing, if the lack of weaponry on him wasn't enough. To top it off, his clothes are tattered and bloody. Really bloody-mortal wound kind of bloody-yet there's no injuries to be seen.

Despite that, he stands in front of the over-sized bears, crouching low with a slight off-balance stance, ready to strike.]

There's a way out behind you, I'll hold them off.

[Brave words, one-armed, weaponless, idiot. But he does have determination.]



[B: Temple of Fear]

[Even while Elene always preached about the one God when the Drakes weren't, Kylar couldn't say he'd ever stepped foot in one of their churches. But by his guess? It wouldn't look like this. This felt like a void of darkness that could swallow a man whole.

It felt fitting, too fitting.

But he should try to learn this area inside and out, so inside the Temple of Fear he went. Still counting his exits and escape plans as he walked down the aisle toward the altar.]

One of the least abandoned places here. Why's that, you think?

[10/10 - bear is driving? how can this be?]

[gansey is rather intensely grumpy about this entire situation. it's not really any better than the last one. there might have been an evil ley line on the island, but at least there was also a sky. he's very unsure about this cave business.

as he's dusting himself off, he hears a strange whuffing sound behind him. a very, very large whuffing sound, and he freezes in place, too terrified to move a muscle.

yep, dire bear. dire bear right there behind him. oh boy.]

[10/12 - cartography 101]

[they've found shelter, at least, and he and adam both have a tiny bit of food that they're stretching between the four of them. that's good enough for the moment. what's not good is that gansey doesn't have his bearings, and without a sun to guide him, he finds the ruined city oddly difficult to navigate.

he's walking through the streets with a notebook and pencil in hand, making a rather detailed drawing of his surroundings, noting each building and ruin, their approximate shape, any defining characteristics in tiny, all-caps print. he's quite absorbed in what he's doing, so apologies in advance if he runs into someone. or, hey, sneak up on him, he's pretty funny when he startles.]

[Noah's following Gansey, because it's good to not let people go out on their own when there are bears about, even if all Noah is good at is running away. Still, it's a different kind of entertaining to see Gansey work on his maps, his Quests. It distracts from the hunger a bit.]
