Event log: Who What Where Wendigo

Who: Everyone participating in the wendigo event!
What: The accidental-cannibalism-turned-horrifying-monster event that is the Who What Where Wendigo event!
Where: All around the city
When: Feb 14th-March 1st
Warnings: Cannibalism, body horror, evil monsters lurking around.

Don't forget to check up on the Wendigo Guide that Ami posted!

On February 14th, Rage and Fear decide to give Hope a little bit of help taking care of the residents of Hadriel - they'll provide some food for awhile. How nice! Except, of course, that there's an extra ingredient in this food. A can of beef stew? Yeah... that might not be beef. But hey, it still tastes pretty good! Unfortunately, some spirits slipped through the Door last time it opened, and they're ready to possess anyone who participates in cannibalism - even if they don't know it.

Anyone who eats the provided meat will be possessed by a wendigo spirit. Over the course of twelve days, they will transform into a monster that feels little but rage and hunger. While at first it can be explained away easily enough (people are super annoying, and isn't everyone a little hungry most of the time?), by February 18th, wendigo transformations are impossible to ignore. A few days after, on February 22nd, the anger and cravings of the wendigo spirit will overcome all other emotions, and possessed characters may begin hunting.

The physical and mental transformation will be complete by February 26th. The possessed characters will have lost themselves completely at that point. While physical healing (done by a character with Hope's blessing or another healing ability) can turn back the physical and some mental effects, they will remain possessed until death or until Hope removes the wendigo spirit - which can only be done on the altar of Hope's temple. So have fun dragging your angry, possessed friends there!

On March 1st, Rage does Hope a solid (because she feels sort of bad) and kills all remaining wendigos. Upon revival, the spirit will be gone and the character will be fully recovered. Hopefully no one holds what they did while possessed against them!

► This log covers February 14th-March 1st.
► Feel free to make your own logs, as well
► Please tag headers of threads with content warnings where they apply
► Please put your character's name and open/closed in the subject line of your starters!
► Please report any character deaths right here!

Maybe it is for the best. But that doesn't stop Rey from wondering. "So who are they? Some sort of big shots or something?"

Rey has her sense of curiosity towards the past, too. What things must have been like back then. Stuff like that. It's interesting and not an experience many people can say they've had.

"No, think anyone would enough sense in their skull can figure that out." Good job, Firo. "Wouldn't really worry about the 'whys' here. Seems like there is none."

Big shots to him, if no one else. He grins and doesn't confirm or deny that description. "They're my Family. I just wanted to know if they were still around."

Wow, okay then. Firo blinks at the casual insult, but figures that both the questions and the remark aren't important enough to pursue. It's only his intelligence, after all. He shrugs.
circumitus: that's because you have standards... and i have a thing for guys that give me free drugs. (my dad brought home flowers)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-04-19 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
To Rey, she hears that as 'family' in the familial sense, which she can understand if that's what Firo was talking about. Which he isn't, but she doesn't know that. "Apologies for not being more helpful."

For someone who told a guy from the 1930s when the Depression ends and the Prohibition never makes a resurgence, one would argue that Rey had been plenty helpful. Whatever.

Now that her soup has cooled down, she decides to give it a try. Without utensils. Instead she just picks the bowl up and drinks right out it without shame or grace or manners.

Foul heathen.

"It's fine. They're tough guys."

Either they'll be alive or they won't. There's no use worrying about it when he can't do anything to help them right now.

He's thinking of somewhere else interesting to take the conversation when Rey begins dumping soup into her maw. Firo never thought he'd see the day when someone ate more sloppily than Berga and Claire trying to one-up each other at dinner. "...Uh, you want a spoon or somethin'?"
circumitus: If you can't drink cheep beer and whiskey with me, I don't want you. (fuck it)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-04-21 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Never mind the fact that Firo is concerned for the survival of his family two hundred years later from his current time. Part of her assumes he's talking about his lineage, so how strange could that be? But didn't Firo say his last name was Prochainezo, not Martillo?

Realizing this, Rey starts to lower her bowl to ask him this, until he seems to be making a note of her rather... uncouth habits. It isn't the first time she's got that look, after all.

"No thanks. Am good." She says this as she wipes her mouth with the back of her free hand.

He snorts, almost a laugh. "Then I'm gonna guess you don't want a napkin, either."

Interesting. Firo's hardly so old-fashioned as to be horrified at the lack of manners--no more horrified than he would be at anyone--but he admits he is a bit surprised. He's always been a bit more tidy than your run-of-the-mill thug.
circumitus: There's my chippy! (where's my chippy?)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-04-24 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
Is he laughing at her? Are you making fun of her, bro?

"That depends." She sets down the bowl. "Do you have any?"

She may have terrible dinner etiquette, but she's no barbarian. Sort of. Well, it's arguable.
foundafamily: (14.1)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-04-24 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Refusal or laughter were the two responses he was prepared for, so he's caught off guard by the simple question. He hesitates then shakes his head. "Oh. Um, well, no, actually..."

He shrugs weakly, "It was a joke. Apparently not a very funny one."
circumitus: tall, lanky, uses teeth when giving head, and runs like a giraffe. don't do it, man... (no i know her type)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-04-24 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Come on, Firo. Do you really she's the type who'd just laugh? Smiling is hard enough sometimes -- you have to exercise so many muscles and all.

"Oh. Apologies." Le shug. "Am not very... good, with those."

Most people's sense of humor tends to go way over her head.
foundafamily: (1.1)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-04-27 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
He flashes his teeth. The fact that she feels the need to point it out is a little funny by itself. "Don't worry, I can tell."

"They train the humor right out of you in the army?"

Maybe it's insensitive. But Firo's never been particularly concerned with stepping on people's feelings, and he doesn't know much else about her to joke with. If he knew she was from Milwaukee, he'd just ask if people in Milwaukee didn't have jokes. But all he really knows if her profession and the fact that she randomly gives meat to people. So kidding about the job it is.
circumitus: I CAN QUIT ANY FUCKING TIME I WANT. (i'm not drunk YOU'RE drunk)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-04-27 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people would consider it insensitive. Rey just waves a dismissive hand.

"Actually, soldiers have a very, um... special sort of sense of humor."

She has very rarely, if ever, partaken in any of the pranks her fellow officers had pulled on each other, as it does often get borderline juvenile. She does know that it exists and she has, on a few minor occasions, been the butt of some jokes. Not that she cares, though.

He rests his chin on his fist.

"Special?"

Come on, lady, cough up the details.

...Of course, Firo probably wouldn't want to know, but he doesn't know that without knowing such details.
circumitus: tall, lanky, uses teeth when giving head, and runs like a giraffe. don't do it, man... (no i know her type)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-04-30 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, special. Childish, even."

It does seem like Firo is expecting more details than that. Rey just squints as she shifts through her memory bank for examples.

"Such as the time when one of the sergeants snuck a Goliath birdeater into the barracks when we were in South America. The new recruits tore up the whole place just trying to find it. Don't know how you can lose a Goliath birdeater, though. Those spiders are about the size of your face."

"Huh. And here the government likes to run their mouths like they're all professional."

Soldiers aren't cops or feds, of course, but they're similar to Firo, and that means he feels a sort of automatic mild dislike for them.

The flicker of distaste is quickly replaced by a fond smile. "That sounds like something Randy and Pezzo would do if they ever found face-sized spiders..."

They do love ribbing people, especially their picciotti and Firo.
circumitus: (your girlfriend is a south jersey whore.)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-04-30 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"The military is a very different breed of government. God forbid you end up falling asleep on the job. You could either wake up with hot sauce in your mouth or duct taped to your chair."

Because Rey has totally seen that sort of thing happen before.

"Am assuming those are friends of yours?"
foundafamily: (Default)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-05-02 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
"Or both at once?"

Now that'd be torture.

"Yeah, two guys in my Family. Attached at the hip and always cookin' up some way to get one over on people, whether it's work or just for fun. Their fun."

It may not sound like a glowing endorsement of them as people, but Firo doesn't lose his smile for a moment.
circumitus: even drones can fly away.... the queen is their slave... (chill out big head)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-05-02 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or both at once," she repeats. "And that'd just be child's play."

Rey will never understand how grown adults can get their kicks out of acting like kids. But then, it's not like they included her that often.

The way Firo mentions his 'Family' again has her raising a brow. Something about the way he says it strikes her as odd, like not family in the blood-relations sort of way. It would have made more sense if Firo had said cousins or siblings or something.

Whatever.

"That sounds... charming." Firo certainly seems to think so.

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-05-05 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
He shrugs. "I think it depends on if you're their current victim or not--you know how it goes." Or he assumes she does, given that it sounds like she witnessed similar things. So long as they're not the one being tormented, people'll have a ball at the antics.

"So how often did you get in on all this?"

Firo occasionally enjoys such things, admittedly, but he can't imagine someone like this lady doing too well with them.
circumitus: Because you're marine grade... You rascal. (you need 400 proof or marine proof)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-05-05 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sort of."

She may have witnessed much of it, but actually understanding it is another story entirely.

As for his assessment... Firo would be mostly right about not doing too well with pranks. Rey frowns. "Not often, if ever. Wasn't included in a whole lot of things, but that was probably for the best."

It's not like she has the amiable personality for practical jokes. Not back then, anyway.

"That's a surprise. It seems like it'd be your thing."

He rises to bring the pot over, scooping more into her bowl without even asking if she wants it filled.
circumitus: I ONLY KNOW HOLA. (EVERYONE IS SPEAKING SPANISH)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-05-06 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not really, no."

She then pauses, casting a side glance to the wall as she considers his remark for a moment.

"...You probably weren't being serious again, were you?"

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-05-07 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
"You're gettin' better. Couple more months of this, and maybe you can go back to your army and joke with the best of 'em."

His guest properly re-fed--at least for now--he takes his seat again across from her, still grinning with amusement. Hey, he's hilarious. If other people don't appreciate it, that's their problem.
circumitus: There's my chippy! (where's my chippy?)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-05-07 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
Har dee har.

Rey doesn't laugh, as one can expect. She just reaches for her bowl of refilled soup and pulls it in font of her, frowning.

"Well, not really. Am not doing any of that stuff anymore these days." A lot of things have changed. Rey herself has changed.
foundafamily: (13.3)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2016-05-08 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
He still has quite a lot of work to do on her, it seems.

He takes a few spoonfuls of his own. "New job?"
circumitus: (503): forewarning i'll probably have done those drugs with you (i wanna bring you to show and tell)

[personal profile] circumitus 2016-05-08 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, Rey is a piece of work herself.

"You could say that." She waves a hand before she reaches for her bowl again. Utensils be damned. "Was never actually part of that government in the first place. Not in the way you think. It's a long story."

Which seems to be the sort of thing you'd say to people when things are complicated.
